Soca in general is not a mainstream music platform but has been growing in popularity thanks to artists like Bunji Garlon, Machel Motano & Alison Hinds. If you expanded your music library to include Caribbean music you'd be fully aware of who he is.
Actually since it's in NY where there's a strong Caribbean following, an artist like that does deserve to be on the main stage. The Festival stage is for newbies and budding artist. Bunji Garlin is far from that and already has a huge following.
