6 Reasons Young Black People Are Leaving The Church

Leaving the church and leaving Christianity are two different things.....

is the OP saying leaving Christianity..... or stop getting up on Sunday and going to a building?

I was raised as a Jehovah's Witness. I left the organization in my early 20's. I was no longer into being limited in where my life could go as a result of trying to live up to their standards of godliness. I also had seen friends of mine done dirty by the organization due to rules I considered to be ridiculous. I missed out on so much because my mother wanted me raised with those beliefs. If I hadn't left, I wouldn't be living the life that I am now, which is pretty standard, but all mine.

Over ten years later, I now spend a good amount of time on BGOL posting gifs of whores squirting. I'm enjoying myself.

The church I grew up in ran off almost all their young members once they turned 18 and went into college life/adulthood

The older members were so judgmental and acted as if they hadn't been in their late teen/early 20s before and it turned people away

Shame too cuz our youth ministry was very strong and could be leading the church at this point

This is a beautiful story of self-realization bruh

A lot of cats are taking past experiences and just shytting on the entire population. As a son of a Pastor (didn't become a pastor until my early 20's and I am 36 now) one thing I have always wanted to make sure of was that they didn't take themselves seriously in the sense of "You ain't getting salvation unless THROUGH ME!!!" type of church. That he is a teacher nothing more.

We both have been in churches (ushers, deacons) where MULTIPLE offerings are taken. Where pastors try and read us and say "I have a word from the lord for you!"

My father believes in science but that there was an "architect" that started it all. Unfortunately you have churches that want you to swallow everything that they teach whole and you end up getting swept in the majority when Bill Maher is talking shyt.

Amazing how people talk about the atrocities/shamming that atheists went through back in the day but have no problem doing it now that they are on top.

As a daughter of a preacher, I can tell you why I stopped going. The people in the church is more wicked than the people outside. Every evil thing you can think of, is being done in the church. I never seen so many cliques formed since High School. Ive never meet so many unfriendly people in my life. :smh:

I love the Lord but I can't waste time on foolishness.

agree with you, I am kin to the winbushs (COGIC) of Louisiana. SEEN the filth up close and personal. maybe that is why I am married to a buddhist

As someone who was also raised JW, I find this extremely humorous!

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Im a hustler, and as a hustler, i know when I'm being hustled!

The Church Game is just another hustle to fill pockets of Crocked Preachers, That used to be Ex-Felons,Pimps,and Hustlers.

What is the church being done about massive Black Unemployment?, Gang Violence,etc..

Black People should pool our money and build business, and wealth, That how we can help each other,

Stop giving your money to these hustlers, That Are driving Benzs, while you take the B60 to work!

Cosign. especially about building businesses and stop giving money to these greedy hustling preachers

My fellow single brothers, how do you handle these bible thumping Sisters out here when dating? They claim to love the lord so much and put Jesus first in their lives. Well, so they say....

:hmm::hmm::hmm::hmm:

a big homie told me this a long time ago...

"Church is an institution, like school...and I graduated from that shit."
Man, listen......I can't get church goers to understand that for nothin'.

If you heard it once, you heard it a thousand times now go out into the world and see if it sticks......great if it does, but don't be stunned if it don't...

How can I ride with the reverend when the reverend rides around in a Porsche 911
/BM dubs with the dubs but rebuke the thugs that make a profit and living off drugs
/let's get analytical on all the hypocritical/both profit off people when lives are miserable
/what sets you apart from them
/ cuz you speak from the altar hymns and songs make you less wrong/let's hear a song from the choir
/let the congregation congregate over collection plate gathering/stain glass windows shattering I guess I'm going to hell
/but the rev's pockets are empty because my soul ain't for sale

That's my reason why I turned my back on church. I don't like being hustled or conned.
This...is......nice!

scam!

Now, think...10% off everybody that came into the place once a week and I believe I heard it holds 70,000 but don't quote me!

Hally berry exists. Or does she?
Indeed, she does. I have proof.

Leaving the church and leaving Christianity are two different things.....

is the OP saying leaving Christianity..... or stop getting up on Sunday and going to a building?
I mean leaving the tradition and ceremony of going to church...

THEN reading your bible from cover to cover, while taking notes, to vet, verify, and prove that every word of every sentence of every paragraph of every verse of every chapter of every book is ALL the complete truth, will, and word of god, with no contradictions.

THAT'S what I'M saying!

Wow, I know we didn't, but sounds like we went to the EXACT same church.

It's a formula to this thing, my dad told me, if you let a church get old it is going to die...and that makes sense because who is attracted to anything that is in its second wind.

But to top it off, my dad was telling me that new members just won't do...they have to be new "young" members and in this day and age that sh!t just ain't happenin' no MO!:hmm:

This is a beautiful story of self-realization bruh
:lol::lol:I tried not to comment, but you made me.

Good...they are waking up.

The problem is, in person, I rarely if ever see an athiest attack a Christian.

Man, I have never had an athiest, an agnostic, or a scientist recruit me EVER.

On the other hand, I can't tell you how many times a "child of god" has walked up to me with all the judgments and all the assumptions that I don't believe, I politely keep it pushing, they press the issue, then I have to end up helping them with their christian walk AND I AM NO LONGER A CHRISTIAN!

I am sure your dad means well and I am sure you mean well, but I know what they teach pastors at theology schools and I know that you know that pastor's know better than to learn what they learn about theology and then come out and build a church with a clear conscious.

Man, it's just not sustainable...but I guess you will have to answer to god for that.:smh:

You re strawmanning...leaving the tradition and ceremony of the building is what is happening....

You wanna see a scam? Did anyone read a couple of weeks ago about Joel Osteen's mega church getting robbed of $600,000 in cash, checks, and money orders? The robbery took place between Sunday night and Monday morning. It was reported that all of the money was collected from the congregation on that same weekend! What type of bullshit is it when a church is bringing in that type of money for a single service?

I'm going to assume that if people stop going to church altogether that they aren't doing most of the things associated with the church either. I was raised in a die hard Jesus or nothing type household and I had my doubts about it from the time I was a teen, but had no choice but to keep going. I haven't been inside of a church in about 5 years now, and honestly i'm still not sold on Christianity either..especially when you look at the origins of why we believe it to begin with.

I noticed someone in here earlier ask, knowing the only reason we practice it to begin with why no one questions it. That's one of my biggest issues with it. Had it not been for the Trans Atlantic Slave trade, what would we even practice? There's a pretty large possibility that it wouldn't be Christianity since it wasn't, and still isn't the largest religion in that part of the world like it is here.

I've read the Bible and i'll admit, a lot of it I simply don't believe. Some Christians say you're only supposed to read part of it as symbolism, some say that you're supposed to take it literally. Either way, I believe in A God, is it the God that came along with Jesus story? That's another question in itself.

lol...i've always wondered what kinda money those churches like Creflo make. I guess I know now. It's funny to me though, on Sundays you can't even get up or down Old National because of all the black folk flocking to get in that church. All the parking lots, cars on the side of the road..people walking a mile to get in there. The whole street around it has been dilapidating for years yet, that church sits in the middle of the block with a gold dome, helicopter, charter buses, and a Bentley in the head parking space every Sunday. Sickening. My aunt went to that church and would make sure those folk got her 10% before she made sure her kids had groceries in the house.:smh:

Church be messing up all kinds of black women, making things more complicated than it has to be.

When things are about to jump off, they pull a bible out from the purse and start giving a sermon and a prayer for an hour. Sex is seen as sinful and bad unless it under certain strict conditions.

I don't follow and that was not my intention.

It is apparent that they are leaving the church and everything it represents, as well.

Man, I was just over there two weeks ago and this SELF SAME THOUGHT crossed my mind.

I mean, Old NAT L been lookin' the same way it did when I moved here nearly 15 years ago, then...there's this oasis of a church that believes in "god" but cannot tap into that spirituality or tap into that consciousness or tap into that power that god asks you to have for humanity and build up the very community that you FLOSS in?

Man, I have driven by there more than I can count, but two weekends ago my consciousness was so strong it just ran me hot.

I'm sure the example of my experience can be used for churches all over America

Black churches especially

There is that nose in the air vibe that the older members give off that turns people away

It's a major flaw in African American churches that keeps many away from the word of God and steers them into the wrong direction

I am still a Christian and will always be one btw

The funny part is, the few "community" acts they do...they do nowhere near the neighborhoods around old nat. The most they've done over there is buy up property to build more parking lots for their "members" to park.

Wrong direction is most definitely debatable on this subject.

:hmm::hmm::hmm::hmm:

the woman I'm dating is a full bloodied Jesus freak....she be waking me up on Friday at 5am to join her in her church prayer line, she can rattle off bible verses off the top of her head. every time we go out to eat she blesses the food before we break bread, she listens to gospel rap, which really isn't that bad when you listen to it, she has bible verse tats on her arms... but I deal with her mainly because I'm going to put 2 kids up in her and she keeps me level headed

I denounced Christianity when I turned 19. It made no sense to me whatsoever. These so called church going chicks (dudes) went so hard on the lying, manipulating, sex, judging and so on. Not just a couple, but many.

What solidified it for me is when I started researching on how it was used against us during slavery.

Someone help me out with this question please.....

We all know Christianity was forced upon our ancestors who where brought here as slaves. Our ancestors could not practice any of their native customs and religion. They had to adopt the slave masters religion.

Is it possible for your slave masters religion (Christianity-Blonde hair Blue Eyed-Jesus) to guarantee your salvation?

:hmm::hmm::hmm::hmm::hmm:

:yes::yes::yes:

Mannnnn, the same church that not only stood idle, while my ancestors were enslaved, but were complicit in this? Oh hell nawl:smh:

If you didn't help us then, what makes me think you'd help us now?

God is real. Organized religions are a scam.

The books of the bible were written by people that came out of and lived in Northern Africa/Middle East. Even the locations that they give are still in Africa/Middle East; Egypt, The River Nile, Jericho, etc... The "bible" makes its way to Europe and you got Catholicism a few centuries later you have the blonde haired jesus (which in the bible is NOT an accurate description of Jesus he looked more like Osama than what Mel Gibson thinks)

Long before Islam was hijacked Christianity was, so I don't subscribe to the slave masters religion... Hell I don't even subscribe to King James religion.

Not trying to tell anyone is wrong for their beliefs, just the "slave master" religion says Jesus, Noah, Moses and various Pharaohs were white, but the bible doesn't mention ANY white people. White people aren't indigenous to the areas in the bible.

Jesus wasn't poor either he was a carpenter that profession was known for making money. Also a carpenter before Black and Deckker so everything had to have been done by hand which means he probably had at least 75lbs on the picture you are used to seeing. So again I can be a Christian and not subscribe to the someone else's "doctrine"

Great thread. I cant wait for you guys to see my documentary that I'm currently filming about religion. I will be posting the info here when its done on how to see it.

This explains partially my disdain with religions and their everlasting life scenario to eliminate death.

You are supposed to act a certain way as a human, you are already supposed to be honorable, to have integrity, to follow the principles which makes living among other humans harmonious... to expect a gift for something you should be doing is like the constant search for a hook up.

Do you see that there are easily 50 - 70K seats in that room? so if each person gave $5 and he has 2 services......

You don t see how he s getting easily $600K?? so he s robbing on average everyone for $5......

cotdamn I got no problem with folks not liking church....but if you have a lot of people in your congegration you will have a lot of money annually....

a 3,000 member congregation would mass +1.5M a year if each member just gave $10 a week....that s less than a price of a movie ticket.....

not all of them are robbing folks.....its just numbers and size of the church....

anyone who feels they have to be in church or be in church every sunday is LOST.... bottom line is most folks in the church are lost sheep......

When I am in church I dont learn sometimes... not that i know errythang but what the pastor preaches is mere common phreaking SENSE usually

I am not gonna praise someone who cant teach me and make me learn more so than not.........

hypocrites live in the church.... they judge all the time and think that them being there makes them more "christian" than u...

Show me a church who takes up a collection once a month and that will be a church that I know is there for the right reasons!

U cant be contrite and right if u are making millions off of Gods word....Hell i dont even like gospel music going commercial and making millions..I dont like that at all..... But thats another topic

I digree:angry:
