RoboCop (2014)

Good but not great remake of the satirical and great 1987 film. For the most part the film was an uneven mixed bag.
The film focuses on the different phases critically injured Policeman Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman)goes through, holding
on to his human side, then the mechanical by the book, efficient drone, then back to holding on to his human side,as the
OmniCorp corporation sees him as the path to billions if he and more Robocops, and robots are put on the streets to fight crime.

Director Jose' Padiha and writer Joshua Zetumer amp up the Murphy family part of the story to get the audience to care
about and connect with the characters, but this made the film feel more drawn out,and slows down the pacing.
The cast does a fine job and the action and SFX are sleak, and it was great to see the bad guys get what they deserved, but this 2014 version of Robocop is a good rental on a slow Saturday night.

About Last Night (2014)

This remake of the 1986 romcom that was based on the 1974 David Mamet play Sexual Perversity in Chicago, holds on to most of the ingredients that made the 1986 film a favorite.Danny (Michael Ealy) and Debbie (Joy Bryant)try to maintain a relationship after a one night stand, they have great chemistry ,cant get enough of each other, and uplift each other through the blahs of a boring job, other troubles and they both chafe at each other's relationship distractions, his is a former lover named Alison(Paula Patton),and hers is Steven (Adam Rodriguez)a co worker/boss,who pursues her.Ealy and Bryant make the going through the motions as a couple vibe work.

Writer Leslye Headland wisely amps up the relationship of the Bernie (Kevin Hart) and Joan (Regina Hall) characters, which was only a slight flirtation in the 1986 film.Hart and Hall are hilarious and go all out with plenty of blue humor, the perfect offset to Danny and Debbie and of course the audience sees it before they do that they are perfect for each other but they also have commitment problems and wonder if they can make it work beyond just fufilling each others sexual needs.
Throw in some nice moments from actor Christopher McDonald, and it adds a up to a very good romantic comedy

Yeah - I've heard and read a mixture of reviews. Not sure how the movie will play out, as the fam' who want to watch it are ADD/ADHD and always seem distracted when watching a flick (and this one's just over 2 hours):rolleyes:

Bought this on Bluray Saturday, watched it with my wife in my man cave yesterday. Great movie to us man. Great movie. Real life shit in there man. Real life shit. We loved it. The best thing about the movie to us is you have successful black folks with great jobs looking awesome. That's what I'm talkin' bout.:yes::yes:

Yeah - I need to see that one. Well-received by fans & BGOL fam' in recent months. Cool to see them revisit the first movie with a sequel nearly 15 years later too - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Best_Man_Holiday

Dallas buyers club was good. So was blue jasmine.

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

Yeah - enjoyed both of those. Great performances from Matthew McConaughey and Lared Leto in Dallas Buyers Club, and from Cate Blanchett, the woman who played her sister in the movie, and Andrew Dice Clay (in a serious role). Dope see Matt Mc' pick great roles in recent years too to show off the acting chops he's always had (Mud / True Detective / Dallas Buyers Club / The Wolf of Wall Street / etc).

Pompeii

The film Pompeii wants to be Gladiator,Spartacus, and even Titanic but it doesn't even measure up to the 1984
T.V mini series The Last Days of Pompeii. Some of the actors do their best with the lukewarm script actor
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Atticus is the standout. Some of the arena battles are great, and SFX are wonderous at times.
The delivery of some of the lines and how some scenes play out are awful,so bad and campy it made me laugh several times.
The lovely Emily Browning and super gladiator Kit Harrington are the volcano crossed hand holders, and Kiefer Sutherland does his
psycho best if he had worn a mustache in the flick he definitely would have twirled it,he attempts to come up with some type of english accent but drops it here and there.
Characters are introduced and when they vanish the other characters care about their whereabouts for about 2 seconds,
which made me think they were just added so the audience could watch them die in some spectacular way.
When certain characters perish i didnt really care because they were very underdeveloped.
Wait for Cable/DVD you will likely find yourself fast forwarding to when Vesuvius blows it's top.

3 Days to Kill

Definitely not the unwatchable mess some have made it out to be but 3 Days to Kill,is definitely a jumbled grab bag.
Part family film, spy thriller, and comedy this mix actually works at times.Directed by McG who loves the spy trying to
lead a normal life theme 3DTK stars Kevin Costner as a CIA OP named Ethan Renner, who due to some health issues
decides to hang his guns up and try to bond with his estranged wife, Christine (Connie Nielsen), and daughter, Zoey (Hailee Steinfeld).
Not to long after this decision he's pulled back in when an experimental maybe cure is dangled in front of him,and a bump up in his pension
is offered by his sexy contact Vivi portrayed by Amber Heard who gets to model various outfits that range from business casual to
semi-gothic dominatrix.
I did laugh a few times at the situations Renner finds himself in and Costner is at his dry, casual and cool best. The action sequences are fun,and its a great looking film.
Then right in the middle of the film things become repetitive, some bad editing throws off the flow of some scenes, and some of the situations are extremely forced. Then there is a cool plot twist that brought me back even though where the climax ends up felt a bit contrived.

If your a big time Costner fan go see it,but if the aforementioned mix is not your cup of tea wait for the DVD.

Had a chance to see the advance screening for Non-Stop last night. It was ok ... had some fun moments, but it was tough to gauge overall crowd response as people weren't saying much after the flick, and fam' I was with laughed and said - "That was horrible" - I enjoyed it though. Not enough Lupita ... Liam's a bit too old for the role (early-60s) and it would have probably been more convincing with a 40-something like Statham in the lead ... there are some decent red herrings in the flick ... the bald dude from season 1 of House of Cards is in it ... Julianne Moore too. Not much in the way of eyecandy. 98% of the flick takes place aboard the flight. Also ... if you don't like TEXTING ... this isn't the movie for you, as they send about 300 text messages during the course of it - no bullshit.

I can't remember if I've rated The Spectacular Now, but that was a really good flick. It's very true to what it's like to be in high school, young, and in love. It captures all of those confusing feelings that you have at that stage in life. I'm definitely copping the DVD.

7.5/10

The Spectacular Now was good. The two main actor's were terrific.Miles Teller is definitely channeling John Cusack,Shailene Woodley was adorable in her yearning for love in the film.(im sorry they dropped her from the next Spider-Man film, she was supposed to portray Mary Jane) I love how they showed the contrast between them, they both had been through a lot and it displayed they both handled the obstacles in their paths in life. There was such a disconecct from their parents for the most part they were on their own. I feel the film should have been longer to add some more dramatic weight.
Still there were very realistic scenes about relationships, holding on to one, letting people go,hoping the person you love will change, and moving on even though you still love someone.

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

On an interesting side note ... looks like Woodley and Teller are co-starring in that new flick DIVERGENT together.

Sure thing. The reviews are mixed so far. Plenty of bad ones from the critics in the newspapers from what I've googled. As for RottenTomatoes ... it's at 58% on the Tomatometer, and 74% with the audience (opens this weekend in wide release). We'll see how those numbers climb and/or drop in March/April. I'd give it a 6 or so.

Should be interesting to see how the awards play out tonight (Academy Awards) given the numerous shows that have already taken place during awards season (Jan/Feb).

REPENTANCE

Forest Whitaker has a few good moments in this story of a self help author Tommy Carter (Anthony Mackie)
who decides to help Angel Sanchez (Forest Whitaker) who seems to be holding on to his sanity by a thread,
and still shaken by the loss of his mother 4 years earlier.Money offered by Angel motivates Tommy who is trying
to help his brother Ben (Mike Epps) who comes into town ,lays a guilt trip on him,and one day shows up bruised and beaten
over a debt he owes to some thugs.
Watching the trailer and 2 minutes into the film i already deciphered the dark secret at the core of this extremely
predictable film. There are some good moments between Mackie and Whitaker, but this is the type of film i rent
on the strength and talents of the actors, and then wonder later on why the actors decided to be a part of such
a lukewarm film.

NON-STOP

NON-STOP does a really good job of breaking free from its been there done that terror on a plane theme(Passenger 57,Executive Decision)
Sure some of it was absurd, and part of the film was predictable, but Director Jaume Collet-Serra and writers
John W. Richardson and Chris Roach raise the levels of tension and suspense several times and Liam Neeson as burnt-out alcoholic flight marshal Bill Marks is great as usual.A flawed character but i couldnt help but root for him the whole time.Neeson is helped by by a very good
poker faced ,supportive cast which includes Julianne Moore,Nate Parker,Corey Stoll, and Lupita Nyong'o.

Thanks for the reviews, JB.

Props to the various award winners from Sunday's Oscars, including Matt Mc' putting in work with Mud, The Wolf of Wall Street, Killer Joe, Dallas Buyers Club & True Detective in recent years. Well-earned.

300: Rise of an Empire

Eva Green steals the show as the sadistic and seductive Artemisia, commander of the Persian navy,in this sidequel
to 300.If anyone was wondering what was taking place as the Spartans took on the Persians in 300,this film provides the
answer.Action packed, bloody and dark 300: Rise of an Empire never fails to entertain.
Sullivan Stapleton is ok as the greek warrior Themistokles, but he lacks the spirit and charisma of Gerard Butler.
Lena Headey makes the most of her screen time though.
The great action sequences, coupled with tidal waves of blood ,and a thunderous score are highly entertaining and
watchable.

Before Midnight

If your in or have ever been in a long term relationship this is the movie for you. Please be patient with the film's slow start, because there is
a payoff. If you dont see yourself, your spouse or lover in the characters in the last 45 minutes of this great film, congrats to you because you have a perfect relationship.

Thanks for the intel, JB. Might check that 300 out. Fan of that cat's work on Strike Back. He's always fucking with some bad bitches

Right on regarding Before Midnight. I've heard and read good things, and want to get around to it and the prior films too (Before Sunset / Before Sunrise) √

I hear ya, man. I fade out so often with tv shows and movies if I start them way too late. I fell asleep for 75% of that PREDATOR(S) movie with Adrien Brody from a few years ago. I woke up and knew I had missed a good hour or so, and still knew I didn't miss shit :D:lol:

Blue Is the Warmest Colour

Blue Is the Warmest Colour is erotic, one of the best films about self discovery, and the ups and downs
of being in a relationship.Be warned BITWC earns its NC-17 rating. At 3 hours the film does feel drawn out
at times and 40 minutes could have been cut from the film. The performances are bold and genuine and its
one of the best films of 2013.

Scale of 1-10 an 8½

Def agree with you about the editing part, it could have been cut down to 150 minutes at the very least, but other thant hat incredible movie, loved the acting and symbolism usage through out the movie, you might have to watch it a few times to pick up on things. And paticuarly loved the ending man, no doubt a Euro ending compared to something tame Hollywood would've done.

On a side note.... those sex scenes man... was watching with my girl and needless to say half way through the movie, we had to catch a quicky in, can get you that sexually charged. Man that brunette chick got a bit of a body on her, curvy as a motherfucker. And the blonde has an ass, someone should post one of the scenes for BGOL's pleasure, 4real a couple of them are straight out of a porno flick.

 - I'm bad because I try to tough it out (especially if it's at the movie theater). I'll start drifting in and out and then start leaning forward and then SNAP my head back when I realize what's happening. Shit ... have almost gotten whiplash a few times

Glad you liked it.It was quiet as hell in the theatre during the very graphic sex scenes.I developed immediate crushes on the ladies in the film. I need to watch it again. Cant wait to see what cable network will have the balls to air it
