MOVIES ~ Any of ya'll seen any good (or shitty) movies in recent weeks/months? Post reviews, feedback, movie news, trailers, recommendations, etc ...

Good shit, man. I hear you regarding the sex scenes with tank tops and bras. Reminds me of the action and horror movies that try to minimize the blood/language to get a better rating and avoid the 'R' or 'NC-17' and potentially score something softer. Trying to get caught up on some of the Oscar nominees in the weeks to come before the Oscars on March 2nd. Stuff like The Butler, Rush, 12 Years, Despicable Me 2, Her, etc. ... have already seen Gravity 3D, Captain Phillips, Inside Llewyn Davis, American Hustle, The Wolf of Wall Street, etc.

I can understand a big tank top or t shirt in a sex scene on TV but i actually started laughing when the 3rd woman in a sex scene remained clothed too.I wondered wow did every actress in the movie sign a no nudity clause?

Now that its February more films will be hitting the theatres that are worthy of my well earned dollars.

American Hustle - we watched it yesterday and liked it. It runs just over 2 hours ... good to see Lawrence, Cooper, and Deniro in another David O. Russell project. Solid performances from all the leads & co-leads. Really enjoyed the 2nd hour and the score/soundtrack was a fun listen (late-70s). Big ups to Amy Adams ... enjoyed her cleavage throughout. Lol @ the mop of "hair" on Christian Bale's dome.

I didn't even think about how cool the soundtrack was when I was raving about the movie to my homies and homettes.lol And yeah, they made Amy look sexy as shit throughout the movie. It wasn't just her look either. She played the vixen so well. I never wanted to fuck her so bad. She's growing on me. I wasn't attracted to her before, but we're heading in that direction.

Thanks for the intel, JB. Won passes to That Awkward Moment last week, but couldn't make it & passed the tickets off to a friend.

First chick flick that I actually want to see in years. I'm becoming a huge Michael B. Jordan fan and I want to see the kid keep winning.

I can't remember if I've rated The Spectacular Now, but that was a really good flick. It's very true to what it's like to be in high school, young, and in love. It captures all of those confusing feelings that you have at that stage in life. I'm definitely copping the DVD.

7.5/10

I hear you, man. At a certain point you just have to start laughing :) - it's like no one wants to forever be indexed @ Celebritymoviearchive. Looking forward to these next few months of movies, and the eventual blockbusters over summer.

Yeah - some fun tunes on that OST/soundtrack, and same for The Wolf of Wall Street and the era they were working with a decade or two later. As for Amy Adams ... got mad respect for her as she always seems to be working. So many roles. Resume is forever being updated per places like IMDB & Wiki. Nice titty game too.

Yeah - hope he stays around for awhile (same with other young talent who are good at their craft). It'll be fun watching them pick roles in the years to come. Kind of like Leo DiCaprio. He's been at this just over 20 years dating to the Family Ties days on TV. He's approaching 40 now ... let's hope he continues acting for many years to come as he's already chosen a shitload of good roles throughout the 90s and 00s, and is one of the better actors out there. Same for Michael B. Jordan ... let's hope he hangs around well into his 30s, 40s, 50s & further.

Yeah - enjoyed it too. Only hoped for a little bit more material with his mom and dad (especially). Pops being a good actor (Kyle Chandler) and all. Movie could have been 15 - 20 mins longer. Like you said too ... dealt well with teenage(d) angst and the confusion leading into graduation and beyond, and of course the issues the kid had with drinking and seeing his own father's alcoholism on full display, etc. One of my fave cuts off the soundtrack for The Spectacular Now was that "Paper route" one. It's the scene where the girl finds him laid out on the lawn at 5 or 6am, and he offers to help her do her paper route. She's driving ... and he's standing up in the back of the truck launching newspapers at frontsteps - fun ♫ that picks up at the 00:47 mark -

I don't know if there is an actor out there that has a better resume than DiCaprio (and there are definitely actors out there with impressive ones). He just knows how to choose them. Either that or the man is experiencing decades of unprecedented luck in choosing material. His filmography is off the fucking charts, man.

Now that you mention it, I agree. I can't say that I thought about wanting to see more of the parents before I read your post, but I can easily see where you're coming from and I think you're right. I think a lot of people will miss the parallel between the main character and his father. You could even draw the conclusion that he was leading his girlfriend down the same path in which his father probably led his mother. I think they did touch on that a bit, but they chose to leave it alone for the most part. It likely could have taken the flick in a direction that they may not have wanted to explore. They wanted to keep it about the two main characters, and they definitely do enough to hold their own with strong performances.

It was just a really well-written screenplay. I enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed watching the movie. Despite never really being much of a drinker myself, I could identify with a lot of what the main character felt. I hope that the flick stands the test of time and doesn't disappear into obscurity like so many films of the same ilk.

JB, what's your take?

I just downloaded Nebraska. Due to work obligations, though, I won't be able to watch it until this weekend. I've been so anxious to see this one.

Hate to sound like a sap, but I'm glad I "met" you and Heli Funk because I love to hear both perspectives. I don't really have many people in my personal life that enjoy film like I do. Much luv to you brothas.

ThaAnsa - Sure thing. Always cool to talk sports, movies, porn, music with the fam' at BGOL as there are literally tens of thousands of people here at the board over the years. Good thing about movies too is that it's often word of mouth. Same for TV series here at BGOL. For instance ... The Wire, The Shield, The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Strike Back, The Walking Dead & a few others have been very popular here at BG over the years. Many people jumped on board these shows immediately and spread the good word, and others saw enough of us talking about them and got on board too and caught up with everyone. Lots of threads and discussions for those shows over the years. As for The Spectacular Now ... that's cool about you having read the book, and thought it was a good screenplay and adaptation to film. As you pointed out ... good to see the parallels between son & absent(ee) father, as well as the teen looking at his own direction in life, and possibly realizing he was steering the current GF down the same path his parents eventually went, and realizing he didn't want to do that to her. One thing that really struck me was how prevalent the drinking was for the kid. Even on the job ... he had his soda cup from 7-11 with him. Or when he talked with his boss, and noted he probably couldn't kick the habit & maintain sobriety moving forward. Shit hits home having been around alcoholism my whole life (6 family members) & seeing the destructive nature of it all, as others would via drugs, gambling, prescription meds, what-have-you, etc. Not sure if you've seen The Descendants from a few years ago, but Shailene Woodley was good in that one as well (alongside G. Clooney and others) - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0940362/ - enjoyed that movie & you can't go wrong with all the outdoor shots of Hawaii. As for Nebraska ... won some movie passes for that one but couldn't make it and passed it off to fam' and they enjoyed it. Said there were some good performances ... believable.

Thanks for the praise ThaAnsa.Always had a love for film always will.I love sharing opinions and reading other's thoughts about film's.I agree with HF
that's whats great about these boards, and the various posts, you can share your views about women, politics, films,t.v shows...everything!!!

The Spectacular Now was good. The two main actor's were terrific.Miles Teller is definitely channeling John Cusack,Shailene Woodley was adorable in her yearning for love in the film.(im sorry they dropped her from the next Spider-Man film, she was supposed to portray Mary Jane) I love how they showed the contrast between them, they both had been through a lot and it displayed they both handled the obstacles in their paths in life. There was such a disconecct from their parents for the most part they were on their own. I feel the film should have been longer to add some more dramatic weight.
Still there were very realistic scenes about relationships, holding on to one, letting people go,hoping the person you love will change, and moving on even though you still love someone.

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

Good shit, JB. Glad you liked The Spectacular Now, and good comparison between Miles Teller and a young John Cusack. Good to see the kid picking up a variety of roles in recent memory. Just saw that 21 & Over movie last week. It was ok. Predictable and whatnot, but had some funny moments. Good intel there about Shailene Woodley. Didn't realize she had a potential spot in the next Spider-Man flick. What works with her is that she's believably attractive, but not over the top. More than just a pretty face. As you noted in the flick too ... good disconnect from the parents, and good point about there would have been more dramatic weight had the film been longer. I could have done with an additional 15 - 20 mins or so and some additional stuff with that. Usually it's the other way around and movies feel like they're 20 - 30 mins too long.

Whoever said american hustle was good,

was fuckin on point..

that shit was more enjoyalbe than wolf of wall street..

the screenplay was off the leash and attackin..

everyone nailed their roles...

christian angry man bale became his fuckin role!!

he just fuckin murked his role!

he topped leonardo, not by much, but he did!!

now I got to go through this and see what

other flicks was favorite..

you fucks nailed it again..

I dont think this thread will ever die..

Blue Is the Warmest Colour

Blue Is the Warmest Colour is erotic, one of the best films about self discovery, and the ups and downs
of being in a relationship.Be warned BITWC earns its NC-17 rating. At 3 hours the film does feel drawn out
at times and 40 minutes could have been cut from the film. The performances are bold and genuine and its
one of the best films of 2013.

Scale of 1-10 an 8½

this movie posted in the download thread..?

THE LEGO MOVIE

The film actually made me recall a few stories i liked from my childhood.A lot of great pop culture references, the entire cast provided great voice work,i applaud all of the hard work that went into making the movie. It lags here and there but it ties everything up with a nice message about family, sharing and being creative.

We watched 12 Years ... on Sunday evening. Certainly a challenging watch with very strong performances from everyone. The room was especially quiet throughout the 2nd hour of the film (runs just over 2 hours) given the intensity of many of the scenes. Very good direction and casting by Steve McQueen & his team.

even for the most expensive rpx showing it was packed,a lot of adults without children sitting in the audience

That's cool, JB. Definitely goes to show the impact of our youth. Stuff like Lego, G.I. Joe & many more. Went to the screening for the Muppets movie a few years back, and that thing was packed too ... Saturday morning 10am screening ... people ranging in age from 4 - 84yo in the crowd :D - funny looking around and seeing the spectrum of society all up in that muthafucka.

that scene was funny..

but fo real I did NOT see

that endin coming..

I dont know how folks fell asleep...

they must need more explosions and car chases and karate

..

damn 2007 we some movie watchin ass muthafuckas:yes:

Exactly. Everyone wants explosions, car chases, CGI & all that other bullshit. As older fam' have said over the years ... look for plot, storyline, individual performances. If you've heard a film has stellar acting (i.e. - 12 Years a Slave, The Wolf of Wall Street, Dallas Buyers Club, etc) ... watch for people like Chiwetel, Lupita, Leo, Matt, and Jared putting on masterful performances. Learn to respect the art ... the craft. You don't have to love a movie to appreciate the performance(s) of a person, or people, involved. Shit ... I know when I watch flicks with friends or fam' ... we know we're gettin' older 'cuz we'll point out shit like camera angles and whatnot, etc. One of the fam' noted years ago - "Watch that opening shot from GOODFELLAS ... that's moviemaking at its finest right there. Watch that shit. Shit is DOPE!"

As for ongoing threads (any genre/porn/movies/whatever) what's dope about them is that you can revisit 'em over and over, and they tend not to get lost in the shuffle as much (given BGOL is so massive & has tens of thousands of members & countless threads of dopeness). Funny looking back at MMA/UFC/BOXING on a similar note ... as the homie Johniz and I have been working on that In Case You Missed It thread since Aug. 2006. Interesting seeing how MMA/Boxing have changed over time :D:cool:

Thats right HF ,they all have built in fan bases and the kid factor ,so the studios know they are going to make money no matter what. That's why if the SuperMan/Batman film is actually filmed the first 2 or 3 weeks in the theatre:$$$$$$$$$$$ and the toy lines and food tie ins:$$$$$$$$$$$

Agreed, JB. I forget how the contract played out back then ... but I recall Jack Nicholson made a grip of money (over $50M) off the Batman movie in 1989/1990, and his iconic role as The Joker then. Forget how much he made point or incentive-wise on it ... and how much went into box office & merchandising receipts, but that was really saying something (big $ like that) 25 years ago ... considering we often think about big-ass contracts in the 2000s, and stars like Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, and others ... but that's more upfront, as opposed to extra incentive(s)-wise :)

HF the points and back end percentage deals are a wonderful thing.Look at all these OG Actors attaching themselves to comic book films.Michael Douglas and Robert Redford:Oh i always wanted to be in a film based on a comic....yeah right. They're no fools your likeness on books, toys, cups, posters, model kits...so much money to be made and it guarantees your great grandchildren will never have to work.

Agreed, JB. On a similar note ... I can't stand when people complain about professional athletes and many of the big-$ contracts. People saying it's bullshit. People saying it's ridiculous. They fail to recognize the amount of money being generated on so many levels. It's sports ENTERTAINMENT. Venues from 10,000 - 107,000 or whatever are routinely being filled on both the professional & collegiate levels. Huge sums of money are being brought in via overpriced concession & merchandising sales. The TV contract & advertising dollars. The $$$ being brought in by stadiums, owners, GMs, and more, etc. The athletes ... and likewise ACTORS/MUSICIANS/ARTISTS (all realms of entertainment) are the ones putting the butts in seats, or generating the millions watching from home on tv. Without them ... who are the attractions? Shit ... people need to think about that when they buy $7 beer, $6 hotdogs, and $30 generic t-shirts (and worse). Shit ... we all saw how ridiculous the prices were at this year's Super Bowl. Shit ... how much were they charging for mac' & cheese, soup, beer, and hot chocolate at that muthafucka :D:lol: ?

Trying to get caught up on this Warner Bros set. Picked it up for $45 (on sale) at Best Buy just after Christmas last year with a giftcard. Good collection of movies. Saw The Shawshank Redemption earlier in the week, and currently just past the 1/2 way mark for Heat.

Speaking of entertainment, but not specifically movie-related ... Great series so far 5 eps in (True Detective). We're really liking it. Nice triple threat on Sundays too, as we don't have HBO or Netflix ... we DVR The Walking Dead, and (as of yesterday) watch the following via DVR / dloads.

- The Walking Dead - 1 ep
- House of Cards - 1 ep
- True Detective - 1 ep
