Just talking about this the other day. Women & especially gays should not be defining masculinity. None are equipped mentally to know what defines manhood. Women can have ideals, but can't put parameters on what being a man is & vice versa.

Womanhood is not something that really needs to be defined. At a certain age a young woman is going to have her first period, this is her body ushering in adulthood this is the call sign for her and her mother or other female peers to start to instruct her. When she has a child, her womanhood status is elevated, she has performed her function in the scheme of things.
Young boys, young men have no such call sign and so it is important for the men, the elders about him to look discerningly on the development of the young men that are about them, to know when to instruct, when to give counsel. Even the presence of a man in a young girls life is important but women have been taught in this society that the man is some sort of added extra and optional when he is a necessity.

for purposes of this thread, the aspects of manhood that are being 'attacted' need to be defined. i suspect (and could be wrong) that this thread creation was sparked by geechie's thread from a few days ago, in which a vid was posted mainly dealing with how boys are under constant pressure to not 'be soft' (in this case, expressing emotion) and even in that thread people were talking 'attack on manhood'. i dunno if teaching boys empathy and having a healthy expression of their emotions (obviously not in front of everyone) instead of 'pretending' to themselves to not feel hurt is attacking manhood. but i agree that ideally a man is supposed to teach a boy how to be a man and a woman to a girl.
