Neck down... HELL NO! Neck up Im dancing in it

I remember her uncle bringing out the water bottle before, but it still seems like there are time when it just comes out of no where. But I can live with that, at least for the water benders.

But the fire benders .... C'mon. I might be inclined to go with the chi/enegry theory because there is no way they're walking around with open candles in their back pockets at all times. At the end of the last episode, Korra was in the middle of the ocean, shooting fire at her cousins and the evil spirit. There wasn't an external source of fire for miles.

Fire benders are the only ones that can generate their element
Fire benders are able to generate it internally, using body heat or some use rage. The advanced benders are even able to generate great amounts of heat or siphon heat from other sources to redirect it or use it to generate flames... in the first series Zuko's uncle would breath steam at times and used hot tea to kick start his internal heat and taught Zuko how to generate and bend flame from his mouth like a dragon.

In the first series if a powerful fire bender is able to induce a state of no emotion (think of the intro to Equilibrium's final fight sequences) they can project lightning... but in this series it seems almost all of them can do it.

Thanks for the info
I guess the chi/ body energy thing actually makes sense.
I'm also guessing that in the Korra's generation, you don't need to be an all-power master level fire bender to do it.
Kinda of like Goten and Trunks going SS at like age 8. After a generation of training and practice, the skill must just come easier for the newer generation.

Basically, but I've only seen toph's daughter metal bend, and the two water bending brothers from season 1 blood bend, without a full moon

Naw that's what they want you to think by making the uncle seem like the obvious villain, you need to watch out for the guy who gave the fat brother all those gifts and is doing business with the chic

Well well sometimes I hate being right

Its the episode with the first Avatar, this is what they should have made instead of whack ass Korra

this episode really did do a good job of explaining how bending started. before this i couldn't tell if bending was a genetic thing or martial arts. also i wrongly assumed the avatar could use different elements because of the knowledge from their former life. the only thing they left out or i didnt catch was how the new avatar is selected. does the spirit just fly into anyone and if so is this really reincarnation? another thing is if the lion turtles stopped giving away the elements shouldn't there be less benders as time goes on?

I'm thinking humans with bending abilities are descended from the people who use to live on the turtles back so now the turtle is just the source of the bending power

the wan episode was the best episode in avatar history then the battle with the pheonix king. i like the animation even more.

Haven't caught the 2nd season yet but imma sit down n watch it on demand I believe it's on the 6 episode

These past episodes were ridic good. But i remember the lion turtle saying we won't give elemental help anymore. If that's the case how are people born with bending abilities?

yes,but that doesn't explain how the elements are passed on. it also sets up the problem of why siblings are not all benders especially if both parents are benders such as the case with angs' children. if the lion turtles just unlocked a power that were already there it makes more sense. that would mean anyone with enough spiritual awareness/training could be a bender of any element. all the lion turtles does/did was help the person develop faster however the episode made it seem like the lion turtles gave them the power not unlocked it.

 See what a big difference it makes when you take out the sidekick/love interest and stick to the plot?

i agree but love interest thing was always apart of the series. i maybe alone with this but take out the bending sports and the current series is better than the 1st so far. even with the bending sport the series showed how bending went from more of a tool of war/protection to (for lack of better words) entertainment/ non vital activity.

does anyone think there is a chance korras uncle is trying to merge with the other spirit? the avatar is/was more of an accident. with the help of a spirit and lion turtle anyone could have the same or similar abilities as the avatar. even if the origin of the avatar was not well known her uncle has been interacting with spirits and could have learned the secret to mastering all five elements. he could have even been in contact with the dark spirit.

It's got to be genetic.

spoiler...

I wouldve liked to see a dark avatar be a future antagonist, but it probably wouldn't happen because he didn't have all the elements, and there aren't any more turtles to give it to him

the turtles are/were around. in the first series aang learns how to remove someones bending ability from one. at most they maybe in the spirit world. also because the two spirits are ying and yang there is a small chance the dark half only needs a human body to create a dark avatar.

*Acknowledges that I'm about to ask a logic based question about a show that is essentially made for children*
Fuck it. I'm going in anyway ....

also SPOILERS

How does the good guy completely beating the bad guy equal balance? They threw that word around like 50 times in the finale and I'm lost. The light killed the dark (despite them saying repeatedly that one cannot live with the other) so light won .... doesn't equal balance.

They're applying George Lucas prequel logic here. [obi wan]"Annie you were suppose to defeat the dark side and bring balance to the force."[/obi wan] How does it 'balance' the force to completely defeat the bad guys and give ALL the power to the good guys.

Balance should have been light and dark fusing together and Korra learning how to balance her new 'dark' avatar powers along with her 'light' powers. Hell they could have made that the plot to book 3.

And side note (nothing to do with light vs dark or balance .... FUCK BOLIN as a staff, record label, and a motherfucking crew !!!! That character isn't funny and every line of dialogue that comes pouring out his mouth makes this show harder to watch. Nothing is worst in these show than a unfunny comedic relief character.

Simply? lol do you have kids? My kids love Bolin. Hell i think he's cute funny guy. You can't be serious serious serious serious ALL the time. Shit would be a drag for kids. And i from how i understand balance in the spirit energy is more like, there's alot of CHAOS already. And there's always chaos. Being balanced means counteracting the chaos that's always present and there. Almost like the natural state of spirit energy is chaotic.
