Haughty French restaurants seat unattractive guests in obscured corners: report
Le Georges and Café Marly of Paris, both owned by the Costes group, reserve the best seats, those that can be seen from the outside, for their hottest customers, two whistle-blowing former employees say
The high standards reportedly apply to staff, as well. Those over 30 or under 5 feet, 7 inches tall need not apply, ex-employees say.
Which table would you be given?
Two fashionable restaurants in Paris have come under fire for "snobbery" over claims they seat guests according to their attractiveness.
Le Georges at the top of the Pompidou Centre and Café Marly near the Louvre both allegedly give the best tables to the hottest clients.
Customers considered less attractive are reportedly relegated to corners where they can’t be clearly seen from the outside.
The allegations have been made by two whistle-blowing former employees of the Costes group-run venues.
"The good-looking ones are led to the good places, where they can be easily seen," the unnamed duo said.
"As for the non-good-looking ones, it is imperative that they be dispatched to the corners of the room," they added.
The pair also said that the strict beauty policy also applied to staff and that anyone over 30 or under 5 feet, 7 inches tall would not be offered a job.
Costes, run by brothers Thierry and Gilbert Costes, has not commented on the claims, reports the Telegraph.
