Here we go with this bullshit again! There are literally 1000's of songs that have the same feel and vibe of other songs. Only signature chord progressions and melodies can be copyrighted. No samples were used in the song. Do these fucks even study the copyright laws???? What the fuck!!

He's used Marvin before on "Million Dollaar Baby" and did it the legal way. He's said many times Gaye, Wonder, Green influence his music. Most the MJ adlibs come on Pharrell tracks...just how it goes.

I'm not sure if anything is gonna come from this. If Pharrell did the melody from scratch and didn't sample the song directly, I don't see how this goes down in favor of the Gaye family.
What's one case got to do with another?
This was the basis of my original question. Nostalgia is not a legal basis. If it's not a sample then I didn't understand what exactly they were going to sue for.

I'm not surprised the Gaye family found an expert to support their claim. Thicke will do likewise. After the battle of experts, a judge will decide whether or not there are damages to be paid out. A case like this is looking for specific things and from what I heard I thought Thicke played close to the line but didn't technically cross it. The Gaye family's case vs. EMI for conflict of interest is where I think they have a better chance of success.
I'll wait to see how the case plays out.
