Marvin Gaye's Family Files A Lawsuit against robin slhick(he got caught lying)

Here we go with this bullshit again! There are literally 1000's of songs that have the same feel and vibe of other songs. Only signature chord progressions and melodies can be copyrighted. No samples were used in the song. Do these fucks even study the copyright laws???? What the fuck!!

But what do I know. I'm only a professional musician with over 30+ years of experience!

Listen to Stevie Wonder. He and cats like Quincy Jones may get called in as experts! Copyright laws speak for themselves!

Its like this, if the song hadn't made any money, I think the gaye clan would have ignored it just like everyone else.

He's used Marvin before on "Million Dollaar Baby" and did it the legal way. He's said many times Gaye, Wonder, Green influence his music. Most the MJ adlibs come on Pharrell tracks...just how it goes.

he gone settle.

Joe Satriani's copyright infringement lawsuit against Coldplay has been settled, Satriani's rep tells Billboard. Last December, Satriani sued the British soft rockers, claiming that "Viva La Vida" ripped off his song "If I Could Fly." But the legal dispute was resolved Tuesday with an undisclosed settlement between the two parties.

Satriani wasn't the only artist who felt Coldplay was aping his material. Back in May, Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam) also claimed "Viva La Vida" was too close to one of his songs, 1973's "Foreigner Suite." When asked if he might file suit against Coldplay, he responded: "It depends on how well Satriani does."

I'm not sure if anything is gonna come from this. If Pharrell did the melody from scratch and didn't sample the song directly, I don't see how this goes down in favor of the Gaye family.

What's one case got to do with another?

This was the basis of my original question. Nostalgia is not a legal basis. If it's not a sample then I didn't understand what exactly they were going to sue for.

 Yessir

Where are all the Thicke supporters and apologist and self professed musical professionals who told us up and down that this song was nothing like Marvins and how Thicke didnt steal a thing?

I swear this is why its hard to take some of you cats seriously when you speak as experts in a field you claim to make a living in. Its usually the so-called music producers on here that always turn out to be full of shit.

I'm not surprised the Gaye family found an expert to support their claim. Thicke will do likewise. After the battle of experts, a judge will decide whether or not there are damages to be paid out. A case like this is looking for specific things and from what I heard I thought Thicke played close to the line but didn't technically cross it. The Gaye family's case vs. EMI for conflict of interest is where I think they have a better chance of success.

I'll wait to see how the case plays out.

What expert? Apparently this 'expert' has zero knowledge of copyright laws! Do your homework folks! Better hope Thicke/Pharell don't counter sue? The Gaye estate is gonna get their asses kicked! Did anyone bother to listen to the Stevie Wonder clip? :smh:

lol I actually liked this Thicke

But quickly after that, he just became a product of the machine.

folks forget that theses cases are decided by a

j-u-r-y

they won't be experts.

they will listen will their own ears and decide.

ask Michael Bolton.

Stevie, master songwriter that he is, knows everybody uses a little influence from time to time, that's why he knows this is bullshit.

Out in Hollywood, ya got all kinds of characters out there. Somebody leaden them folk wrong and taking advantage of people who obviously don't know shit.

By the time they do, they'll be out of some cash.

Marvin died pretty broke, and who knows if the family even gets anything from his shit anyway. I can't imagine any of his publishing belonged to him at death. Thats what makes this even stranger

listen to these two tunes.

Hall and Oates wrote this in 82

Stevie put this out in 86. I'm just noticing he actually SAID it was an ode to a to "You Can't Hurry Love" and "My World Is Empty Without You," both by The Supremes, former Motown label mates of Wonder.

so, let's check those out

you guys get it? Same VIBE, same BEAT, literally influenced by. No one sues for that shit. Or at least no one WINS
