Tech-lovers slam Apple’s iOS 7 update
Apple customers tweet their frustration with iOS download bugs and 3.1GB requirement.
Tech-lovers slammed Apple’s new iPhone software on Wednesday, claiming it takes too long to download and uses too much storage space.
The company’s new iOS7 — which makes the phone’s screen look bigger and sharper — is riddled with error messages, when users try to download it, iPhone fans said on Twitter.
“Frustrating I keep gettin an error when trying to download #ios7 I bet servers crashed with whole world trying to download at same time,” @NickHampsey tweeted
The message “Software Update Failed” kept popping up, other users said.
And people who were able to download the new system had a different set of gripes — noting it takes a whopping 3.1 GB of storage space.
“Not enough memory to download the iOS 7. Hmm. Well, sayonara, wedding photos,” @Amburglar tweeted.
Added @jacobmanser, “This update requires at least 3.1GB of storage” Excuse me?”
The new iPhone software became available in New York at 1p.m., offering users revamped graphics and the much-anticipated iPhone Radio.
E-mails, calendars, phones and texts also look and function differently under the new system. Old icons are replaced with sharper looking alternatives and a new calendar function offers an at-a-glance look at the day ahead.
iOS7 also shows live weather and traffic updates in real-time as well as birthdays or upcoming events.
Some excited fans took to social media to praise the new system.
“iOS7 JUST DROPPED! #Finally!!!”wrote one twitter User, under the handle @bieberinmypants.
Tech experts hailed the new system as a fresh start for Apple, which has long struggled to compete with Samsung’s much larger Galaxy S4.
“[It’s]the biggest change to iOS since the introduction of the iPhone,” said Apple’s CEO Tim Cook.
The launch comes just days before two new iPhones hit the stands on Friday.
Apple’s new iPhone 5C is a plastic, low-cost of the current iPhone 5 model. The iPhone 5S is a high-end model complete with a with a fingerprint scanner.
The iOS7 system was designed by the company’s design chief Jonathan Ive, who called the new software “an important new direction.”
Other social media users claimed the new look is unsophisticated.
Others weren’t claimed its new simple-looking graphics made the phone unsophisticated.
