Google Chromecast

This thing is great. It turns every TV into a google chrome browser, what else do you need? With all of the streaming movie sites out there that work thru your PC/Mac, this does more than enough for me. I'm about to cop a second one and say eff getting a smart TV.

I'm loving my ChromeCast man!!!!

Using m phone or tablet and sending videos directly to the screen is priceless while using my tablet or phone as the remote is just fine for me

How's the quality?

Its watchable. Not the same as when streaming from netflix. But i assume when the app gets official support, the quality will be better. I was able to watch a full movie with no issues.

Not bad.

I generally stream my Plex using the PS3, or just watch it on my iPad.

HBO/MAX Go looks the same to me and it streams thru my browser. I think it all depends on the quality of the stream source period. If they made no advancements on this thing, it's still a great HDMI dongle. Way better than those Chinese Android joints IMO

Since its streaming from a browser instead of the actual app, like netflix or play movies, you wont get that full HD effect. Once the apps get optimized for it, and you use your android device instead of tabs, the content will mirror the original form.

Until Plex gets here officially, you can cast from your pc to chromecast using Plex. I use it on Ubuntu, so it opens in a chrome browser and plays the movies from there. Previously, you couldnt not cast mkv or avi by simply dragging to the browser. That only worked with mp4. But if you have plex installed, just cast the tab that is playing the movie, regardless the format.

Can you fellas explain Plex to me? Can it be used with Chromecast to stream movies?

Its like XBMC.

you can stream your movies from your pc to where ever you are, as long as the device supports it and you have a connection. I just got it up and running about a week ago, so im not sure about its full potential. I only decided to install it, because i read it will get chromecast support.

The only way I see plex being possible is if they let the stream come from your device or the native files having to be uploaded to the plex server which will take too long for most users.

Fucker is 35 bucks and folks complaining. Just the fact that I can mirror my computers and phone makes it a buy. Web surfing on the 50 inch is nice.

Its sweet. Now any of my TVs are SmartTVs.

My shit finally came Saturday and so far I'm loving it. Wife hooked it up while I was out and was like "Finally a gadget worth buying" She knows i'm a gadget junkie. Now she wants one too. She's a teacher and plans on using it in class.

I think it's going to serve me well. After some trial and error I was able to play personal movies from the laptop/tablet on the big screen. This is really why I wanted it.

I was hoping to use the Google play store but once you update the app it takes away the view personal movies option in the menu. Some real bitch assness on googles part.

So what I do is open up a tab in Google Chrome and cast that tab to the Chromecast drag and drop the movie file in that tab and voila I can view all my movies on the big screen.

Yeah I tried the Chrome tab to view movies shit, but there is a lot of lag.

I might try it directly on my media PC and see how it performs there since that one has a better processor, and way more memory than my laptop.

I'm loving the ChromeCast personally and really considering getting a second one. :D:yes:

Dont know if the processor has anything to do with it...the chromcast is playing from the Internet and not your computer. Maybe I am wrong cause I assume it would matter how fast you computer could upload the video to the cloud in order for chromecast to pick it and stream it.

mine was pretty good actually. every now and then my picture would blur and pixelate not sure if I'm describing that right but it's like the picture would look scrambled but after a couple of seconds it would clear up and then it was smooth as hell.

Grabbed one at best buy today works perfect watching sports via stream from google browser. All I need I stream movies via WDTV live

I believe it does.

On my laptop, playback was shitty and lagged, but on my PC, it was way smoother.

I plan to test with the fight tonight :D

With the fight on tonight, said fuck it why not, picked one up at Best Buy, they had a ton in stock. So far, so good, if I can't get a good link through playon for the Mayweather fight, streaming my chrome browser on firstrow through this.

The google browser will play any video files converted to mp4 format. Just drag your downloaded files into google chrome browser and you can cast them to your TV. (I've found going 480 streams better)

Stupid question.. it streams the sound to your tv too or just the video?

Both.

Example, you are watching a YouTube video.

You have ChromeCast, so you "cast" the video from your device or laptop, to the TV where the ChromeCast is connected. It takes the video, and plays it on your TV: both video and audio.

Did you try plugging it into your pc via USB?

Chromecast works great. Streaming through Chrome is pretty good. Netflix works great. It does what it is supposed to.
