US police brutality goes viral

A new video showing US police brutality goes viral. The footage shows a group of officers apparently in Long Beach, California, beating and tasering an un-armed man. Viewer discretion is advised as the following clip contains images some may find disturbing.
In the video of the scuffle, which lasts more than 4 minutes, the un-identified victim’s voice can be heard, crying out for help while being beaten and tasered several times by police officers. The victim is apparently of Latino decent. Press TV could not independently verify the authenticity or the exact time and location of the footage
Blatant use of excessive force against a mentally disabled man. Retraining these officers will not yield anything useful. They need to be terminated, tried and convicted of brutality and sent to prison. The family has every right to sue the department.
But of course, they're defending themselves saying that he became combative. So what. You don't beat the shit out of someone for that long.

Long Beach Police Defend Caught-on-Camera Violence
Posted on YouTube, the video was taken from a security camera outside of a liquor store on South Street.
The video shows officers using both batons and stun guns on the man, who was on his back in the road -- but another surveillance video also shows the man getting aggressive with civilians. The man, Porfirio Santos Lopez, allegedly got into an argument with two other men, threw objects at them and engaged them in a fist fight, said Long Beach Police Sgt. Eaton.
Officers said they arrived to an aggressive and combative Lopez after receiving two 911 calls. Four officers and one sergeant responded to the location.
"As (officers) went to contact him, he began to punch them," Eaton said. "The individual fell to the ground and began kicking officers."
The man told police to kill him when they arrived, Eaton said.
One officer had his baton kicked out of his hand and later he was kicked in the head by Lopez, Eaton said.
Lopez was booked on four counts -- the charges were not immediately clear -- and was in custody at a hospital with a broken arm and stitches. It's unclear if his injuries were suffered during the fight he had with the two men or during his arrest.
Officials said Lopez admitted to being drunk and high on methamphetamine.

LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Long Beach police officers were caught on camera beating a suspect who was already on the ground. The man's family is speaking out as an internal police investigation is underway.
Police say it started with a fight over a beer can outside a liquor store. Suspect Porfirio Santos Lopez threw punches toward a group of men. Authorities say he's drunk and later says he's high on meth.
As the fighting continued, witnesses called 911 and authorities soon arrived at the scene. Police say Lopez resisted arrest and kicked at an officer's baton. He fell to the ground after being Tasered.
Santos Lopez was beaten with a police baton at least six times while on the ground. Officers ordered him repeatedly to get on his stomach, but he refused, leading to even more tasing.
It was a stunning sight for witnesses.
"It was way too much. I felt like he was drunk, so they could have easily gotten him down as many of them as there were," said witness Mycalneisha Jackson.
One woman, who didn't want to be identified, shot cellphone video of the incident and said she thinks the officers abused their power.
"There's no points about it, that they just don't look good to anybody. But, in this particular case, the officer is trying to get this individual who was combative, who was irrational," said Sgt. Aaron Eaton with the Long Beach Police Department.
The suspect's sister started crying when she saw her brother's bloodied face. He is now at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. His family says he's suffering from broken bones, cuts, and a collapsed lung.
"They're supposed to help us, not hurt us," said Santos Lopez's wife, Lee Ann Hernandez.
Hernandez says she and her husband have called authorities for help with his undiagnosed mental illness for months.
"I keep telling the police he needs help, he needs help, he needs help and they wouldn't do anything. And they turn around and beat him for nothing. That's not right," she said.
Santos Lopez is expected to face charges for resisting arrest and battery. His family is planning to sue the department for police brutality.
Police say the responding officers didn't know about Santos Lopez's undiagnosed mental condition at the time of the incident. The officers remain on active duty as the investigation continues.
