Who else had the old cable box with the dial? If you set that dial just right in between, let's say, channels 200 and 201 you could unscramble the picture and see all the nasty shit on Cinemax late nights, even if your folks didn't have Cinemax.

Now that I think about it, even the old cable remotes had a dial on it. Goddamn my old ass is gettin old.

Yeah I used to sneak and watch HBO or Emmanuelle on Cinemax.

In Arkansas we used to climb up the pole and turn on free cable before they revamped the whole system years later. That was like early 80s.

And dont forget the Playboy Channel. I saw many many squiggly PBC movies. They were softcore of course so no penetration but you could still get a few frontal muff shots in squiggly formation.

You used to be able to order those old cable boxes from classifieds back in the day but I never did so I have no idea if they actually worked or not.

And of course let's not forget those gigantic Earth satellite stations. I think they used to cost like 5 grand a pop. Never actually saw the channels on any real tv just the ads and the occasional house with those expensive dishes.

Peeps may not know but Sucker MCs was a landmark game changer. That song and It's Like That was blowing minds back then. Run DMC were kings of the game back then.

I was in Arkansas listening to BMX mix tapes from my homeboy's brother who stayed in the Chi who came down south during the summer. We were all geeked. They used to play mixtapes straight off of BMX down here in Arkansas at the lil juke joint clubs down here. You could hear the radio announcer voices and everything.

That was back when we sported 5 foot boom boxes like Radio Raheem.

If you are 36, or older, you might think this is hilarious!
7) There weren't any freakin' cell phones either. If you left the house, you just didn't make a damn call or receive one. You actually had to be out of touch with your "friends". OH MY GOSH !!! Think of the horror... not being in touch with someone 24/7!!!

We had cell phones back in the day.

From what I remember HBO slowly begin to blow up during the early 80s. The only original programming I remember they had back then was Inside Sports or Inside The NFL football highlights, maybe some boxing and Fraggle Rock the Jim Henson muppets type show which I never actually watched.

They also had their own little monthly TV guide they would send out in the mail.

Other than that from what I remember they pretty much just showed movies. HBO brought Cinemax out I think later in the 80s.

And the best issue of the TV Guide was the one that showcased all of the new shows that were coming out during the Fall season. Ah, the good old days.

I'm only 30 years old, but even us 80's babies really didn't have cell phones poppin' like that. More of an early 2000's era when it was starting to be mandatory to have one.

My Dad used to live in a building several blocks up from the school, right behind Bishop Loughlin & the Brooklyn Masonic Temple, I can remember when he got the antenna to get HBO and put it on the fire escape, luckily his apartment was on the back side of the building so he had a clear view of the Williamsburg Bank clock, and more importantly, Manhattan, that's where HBO's signal came from back then, they didn't come on till 3PM every day & went off @ 12 except weekends when they showed HBO late night & those single X rated films, I remember staying up real late one night when I was there to see "Looking For Mr. Goodbar" starring Diane Keaton & Richard Gere, pretty tame by today's standards, but to a 12/13 year old who had never seen porn, that shit was like WOW!!!

That movie made me want to check out the bar/club scene in NYC, LOL!!!!!
