9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Point

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

Here is the problem for these rappers. The collective hip hop pen game has been lazy for over a decade and the only cats that are still nice with it are pretty much unknown by most people that are claiming to be hip hop heads so they will go unnoticed for the most part.

Why? Because "fans" have been willing to consume bullshit for so long that most don't even know what a hot bar sounds like to even judge whether any of these verses rival what Kendrick did... People are still trying to argue these cult of personality angles like sales and they will immediately be swayed by the buzz Kendrick has so they won't even hear most of these responses out. The actual targets named in the "control" verse have been relying on the fans sheep-like behavior but the irony is that they can't win this battle based on that so they have to either rap or ignore it.

The only winning option is put out a CLASSIC album soon and address Kendrick on there some where. Even if fans try to give Kendrick winner of the popularity contest, the album will be the bigger statement and then that puts the presser back on Kendrick when he is going to have a hard time surpassing his own work from previous projects.

The key in my opinion is to put out a CLASSIC album AND thank Kendrick Lamar in the process.

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

Co sign that's why I say Ortiz spanked Lamar on some you nice kid but you ain't fuckin wit me or my crew watch yourself

These carts are making it about a 'verse'... a 'VERSE'. The ONLY way to deal with this is to make an ALBUM. A verse doesn't do it in this instance because you're going to use because EVERYONE is paying attention to you AND you're RESPONDING to Kendrick. Even if you 'win' you lose.

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

You make no sense

Radio play or not when you say you king of NY expect niggas to come for your head despite who you named specifically.

Ortiz sonned Lamar period and that shit was light work

I don't expect the niggas that Lamar named to respond cause them niggas soft baked cookies like that

Wow... are you from New York?

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

Bro he was speaking to the new school rappers.

Jay & Nas have held NY down for damn near 2 decades...There isn't anyone in NY worthy of them passing the torch to.

And please don't try to compare the coasts...The Yankees...:smh:

The Knicks...:smh::lol:

We've always had lyricists. Just got the right nigga leading the push forward. Like I said and so many posters have said, it was a good thing for hip hop

Notice no Cali rappers are upset or scrambling to make response records to this shit.

"A hit dog will holler"

All over a phantom diss
First off... You as Clipper fan... CAN'T TELL ME SHIT ABOUT BASKETBALL...NOT NOTHING.... Not ONE of those banners in the Staples Center say... Clippers... :itsawrap:
Holla at me when yall get out of the first round... You Niggas make the Knicks look like the Celtics...

Yall trophy case look just like the Eagles... Pacers... Falcons... BUCKET NAKED...

We don't even need to talk about the Yankees because... THEY INVENTED THE SPORTS DYNASTY... :itsawrap:

I would bring up football but... YALL AIN'T GOT A TEAM...

As far as Kendrick goes... Like I said... I like what he did... BUT... Let's not get beside ourselves... Nobody's upset... Nobody's REALLY mad... Kendrick put out the call and dudes are answering it... THROUGH LYRICS... but... Let's keep it real... Most of the people he called out... WEREN'T FROM NYC... and the ones he did call out... ain't lyricists to begin with... :dunno:

Jay-Z got an album out... which makes him relevant... Nas got an Album coming out... which also makes him relevant... Why should they pass the torch when their torches are STILL BURNING... :dunno:

It's easy for Kendrick to call out niggas that he's better than... That's like Josh Smith calling out Steve Novak for a dunking contest... but making sure not to mention Vince Carter or Dominique Wilkins when they're in their prime(hypothetically speaking of course)...

Now if you want to talk competitive rap... LIKE BATTLE RAP... Where lyricism REALLY COUNTS IN THE ARTFORM.. WHO'S THE HOTTEST LA NIGGA... DAYLYT... A nigga who STRIP ASS NAKED IN A BATTLE... :hmm:

IS DAYLYT Fucking with a Loaded Lux or a Charlie Clipse... HELL NAW!!!

Bottom line... Cali has had a HANDFUL of lyricists in the ENTIRE HISTORY OF HIP HOP... AND PAC WASN'T ONE OF THEM... HE WAS A TRANSPLANT...

Yall had... maybe 3 or 4... that's it... compared to multitude of MCs coming out of the BIg Apple... In fact... Name yall best... and I can probably double that number with NYC MCs... EASILY...

You cool in my book, Jimmy... but... STAND DOWN, MY NIGGA...

I'm not from the west but I heard ny niggas get caught fucking with those tranny punks then deny it. They get caught again and still deny it. Even their bitch ass dj friends help them deny it. :smh: The point I'm trying to make is every region has sucka niggas

Mr. Cee is a bonafide FLAMER... NO DEBATE!!!!

But we're talking MCs...

With that being said... You're 100% correct.

I just need to remind my homie about the current state of MCs in his neck of the woods since he wants to take shots...

Kendrick is ONLY one MC... what about the rest of them niggas... :smh:

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

Some of you are still taking that line too literal.

He's saying he's the king of all of hip hop so by default he inherits every title that falls under that umbrella.

He just mentions the king of ny title specifically because it is, or at least was, a title that holds/held prestige.

New York rappers are all in their cups regarding that shit. smh... they aren't even paying attention to what the content of the verse was.

The bottom line is that you have to out rap Kendrick.

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

yup. He mentioned the only 2 who are relevant enough to take offense

everybody else scrambling.

If any more drop they get graded on a harder curve cause they been writing for 2 days now. Ripping up hella paper and revising it like 20 times and called all the ghost writers in.

lmbao!

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

Kendrick doesn't need to respond. Joel put an entire song out because of one line about NY. We all know Kendrick doesn't believe he's the King of NY but it was a dope line. To get deeper into the NY line, he said he was Makaveli's offspring. They use to call Tupac New York, he might've been referring to that.

Joel got a little homotional talking about when he met Kendrick.

Once again no response is needed from Kendrick. It wasn't a diss record or a diss rhyme so why respond because rappers got emotional?

Not only that but he was naming the new so called "Hot" rappers.

Those dudes that Kendrick named don't need to responded because hopefully they're intelligent enough to know it wasn't a diss. With the exception of Rocky every rapper that he named is trying to outshine whatever rapper's on the track with them. If you or any other rapper doesn't understand that that's on you.

There is NO reason for Kendrick Lamar to respond to this at all. His work is done for now. The best thing that he can do for himself is to work starting TODAY on his next album. Don't even fuck around with that bullshit... WORK ON THE NEXT ALBUM!

I think Joel Ortiz DID out rap him... AND... Like he said... He fucks with Kendrick and there's NOTHING PERSONAL ABOUT IT... It's all RAP...

I mean... to keep it official... Kendrick's rhymes weren't crazy... He just called nigga's out... Nothing he said was that crazy... In fact... I've heard better bars in other songs...

The fact that he named names made it dope...

I give Kendrick credit for breathing life back into MAINSTREAM Hip Hop.

I salute him for that...

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

NY is tight right now
faceplant.gif

Tight as the fuck!

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

he wont

In retrospect he made the right move by going first. He gets all the hype, the press, the stanning and all the "real hip-hop heads" adulation.

But he couldnt get all of that if he didnt drop a dope verse anyway so good for him.

Just by the way Drake could drop a verse that blew Kendricks away and he wouldnt get the props because Drake is an easy target that so called purists like to pick on.

EXACTLY! He already won. There is nothing else for Kendrick Lamar to do. Doesn't matter who answers back, Kendrick already won this... created a worldwide rush to the lab. Everyone doing ANYTHING now is responding to Kendrick.

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

And that is precisely what made this verse go viral: name dropping Drake. Without Drake's name the only real issue would have been him calling himself the King of NY. The other rappers he mentioned don't have the same stature (or sales) as Drake... nor the same haters. Kendrick is in a rare position of having mainstream appeal with underground respect. It won't last forever. So, it's perfect timing to trade on his 'dual citizenship'... he can't lose this battle.

THIS... and this is why the irrational backlash of the NY crew is so futile. To say ANYTHING directly relating to this is futile.

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

Tight as the fuck!

To be honest... I think a lot of New Yorkers are actually happy about it...

We've always wanted lyricism to be at the forefront...

You ask any New Yorker how they feel about what K.Dot did... I guarantee you.. Most dudes... such as myself... LOVE IT...

rap's been a country club for too long imo

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

Cats don't want to hear that, though. They want to believe this verse went viral on it's lyrical merits alone, not because of who was targeted. Common is pretty much a full-time actor, part-time rapper at this point and what was his last joint that got tongues wagging about him: Sweet (Drake Diss). Kendrick did an entire diss track about Shyne and what was the response (in comparison to his 'Control' verse)? *crickets* Kendrick didn't raise a bar, he exploited a perfect combination of elements. He's on the upside of his rap career (unlike Common was) name-dropping a relevant rapper who's at the top of his career(unlike Shyne), but is the current rapper "real" heads love to hate (yet still sells platinum+). It was a very savvy move, but not as groundbreaking as it's being made out to be. The responses are what's galvanizing it as stroke of genius. Kendrick would be a fool to respond to the responses, unless he gets Ether'd (in public opinion).

Exactly!

The beautiful thing about it is that 'IF' NY has a hip hop lyrical resurgence it'll be because of THIS verse. lol!

Re: 9th Wonder & Young Guru Debate/Explain Why Kendrick Lamar CANNOT LOSE At This Poi

this isn't about dropping a verse...this is about dropping all verse(s) moving forward. So fuck one verse for any of these rappers "named." this was a challenge to let them know not to play in the booth ...cause he is coming at all of them. it was a compliment that he is thinking of them (like when nas and jay and big and rae and ghost..etc... Were spitting back in the day). Ninjas were checking for each other.

Now i'm a cali ninja but never understood the ny protectionist attitude. Joel ortiz was nice wit it. He didn't shut kendrick lamar down or "spank him"..lol. It was a nice response for a rapper and a group that hasn't gotten the respect they deserve.

Once again - kendrick is probably relaxing wit his boys nodding his head at the joel ortiz song and probably called him like that was nice. Kendrick seems to be like joel and many other "lyricists" who enjoy the competition, sport and the music itself. The king of ny was strategic just to get a response...because the music has been shit.

thank you!!!

Difference of opinion... which isn't a bad thing. Ortiz didn't do anything that he doesn't typically do. His verse was nice. Really nice. However I personally don't think that it was better than K.Dot's verse.

Plus it sounded like he was making it personal. Oh well.

At the end of the day Hip Hop in it's mainstream format has been given a wake up call and we'll all benefit from it.
