marvin gaye's family is being sued...damn I never listened to blurred lines...def some similarities there

Re: Did ROBIN THICKE steal MARVIN GAYE's SONG? ....well Marvin Gaye's FAMILY is SUING

When I first heard the song, I immediately thought it was a Marvin Gaye sample, so I was shocked when he wasnt listed in the credits. I somehow think this lawsuit was wont stand though, they altered just enough to avoid getting sued.

Thanks for the heads up, I tried to make the correction in the thread title and it isn't changing.....that's strange.....

Re: Did ROBIN THICKE steal MARVIN GAYE's SONG? ....well Marvin Gaye's FAMILY is SUING

This is what happens when you co-sign the culture vultures. They will eventually steal you shit so much, that when you remind them that its your shit they will sue your ass for having the audacity to do so.

Vanilla Ice Vs. Queen
Ice lost & Robin will also

ya man...posters used to be able to change thread titles...idk why that changed...it's crazy how he has the nerve to sue...I don't even think the gaye family was even tryna take it there

Re: Did ROBIN THICKE steal MARVIN GAYE's SONG? ....well Marvin Gaye's FAMILY is SUING

There was a similar situation in the uk. Some reality show reject blatantly ripped off the chorus of "under the bridge" by Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Warner Bros were considering suing her but again, it would not have held up in court.

Man, it's so obvious they straight ganked the song from Marvin Gaye, hell....I thought it was a sample....

Re: Did ROBIN THICKE steal MARVIN GAYE's SONG? ....well Marvin Gaye's FAMILY is SUING

I hear a little, but not enough to claim. I mean, seriously. It is a reach. Remember on Living Single where dude said a group sampled Barry Manilow's Mandy  As they said I hear a lil of Prince's Kiss, too.

Save the lawyer fees. It is close, but not close enough. Catchy as hell, but a baseless claim.

Now as someone said above, I DID hear MJ's squeal from Don't stop til you get enough when I first heard the song

"The force...it's got a lotta power. It makes me feel like...it makes me feel like OOOOH!" If that ain't MJ it is a good copy.

Not the same thing at all. Vanilla Ice clearly sampled the bass line from Freddie Mercury. In this case, there are just similarities. No way are they the same.

Re: Did ROBIN THICKE steal MARVIN GAYE's SONG? ....well Marvin Gaye's FAMILY is SUING

i would re-release marvin's song if i was the estate and murder robin thicke's whole buzz...well that's what i would have done.

these kids (like im old haha) don't know nothing about it.

just say its a new artist and just call him Marvin and drop the gaye.

because they're saying this shit is a travesty and robbery. this is marvin's song.

and thicke in true white fashion stole something and is now suing the people complaining about the theft.. he wants them to sit quiet and take it

yeah, man, all this Blurred Lines buzz, I thought it was going to be THE SHIT, however when I listened to it, I just thought MARVIN GAYE %100. WTF!! ...can't muthafuckas tell a Marvin Gaye song? ...All this buzz for a song over 30 years old, shit like you said, re-release Marvin Gaye as "Marvin O.G., the new sound who is ready to take over music. New song "Sexual Healing" bout to drop."

ahh well I will say this suing them will only get that complaint heard more. Also considering how they do rappers I can't see thicke not losing this. Then again Thicke is white RnB singer so u never know :smh:

I honestly hate the song and turn it off whenever it comes on during the few times i have on radio for this very reason. It sounds like a bastardized Marvin Gaye song.

Re: Did ROBIN THICKE steal MARVIN GAYE's SONG? ....well Marvin Gaye's FAMILY is SUING

man this really ticks me off...got to give it up is one of my fav feel good joints

they don't know marvin gaye, that's clear. the target core audience that made this a hit has no idea who he is. and the old ass dj's are too pussy to rock the boat.. id' play this song then play marvin's right after it every single time. he needs his royalties one way or another

culture vulture for sure. im more disappointed in pharrell than robin thicke. pharrell know damn well that's a marvin gaye song.

 yea i find myself irritated with it, thankfully its not on tv commercials as much..and i def ain't listening to no radio with it on it.

thank goodness for options.

its just frustrating. i tried to tell my nephews and they were like.. oh no, no way.

then i played the marvin song and they :eek::eek:

i feel old and im not..

i had to do the same thing when busta was on that chris brown song and they were like :dance:

and then i had to break the news to them that busta rhymes been rapping like that for 20 years

Well let's be real though. Pharrell is the one who co-wrote and produced the track. Which is why he and TIP are also being sued.

They do sound similar but to me Pharrell has been making beats they do seem influenced by older artists like Prince and Michael/Quincy.

I don't know how I feel about this. Hopefully they meet in the middle and cut a check. The song is the biggest hit of the year. They not gonna be hurting by cutting them a check. I also don't feel they have to being the songs aren't similar enough to warrant such.

Re: Did ROBIN THICKE steal MARVIN GAYE's SONG? ....well Marvin Gaye's FAMILY is SUING

Regardless of the whole "borrowing" controversy, I'll just say that the Blurred Lines unrated video is the only good thing to come out of this.

Re: Did ROBIN THICKE steal MARVIN GAYE's SONG? ....well Marvin Gaye's FAMILY is SUING

they need to stop bullshittin and pay the family. get them publishing on the record and call it a day

You can't tell me these not the same damn beat or close enough. I'm not knockin' the Neptunes and what they've accomplished but I always thought this is what they did. I always thought they were making newer sounding versions of older songs. They gave JT some beats that Quincy himself could've sued for.

Pharrell has blatantly ripped off other artists before.

"I'm a slave 4 u" by Britney Spears and "nasty girl" by Vanity 6.

Not to take anything away from him:

"Talent borrows, genius steals."

nah you misunderstood.

not the same beat within himself, they've made lots of similar sounding beats and honestly you can tell which songs were made in the same time frame by the sounds they use.

i was talking about the influential side.. like you said influenced by prince etc... he's been influenced but he's never just straight up jacked doves cry and tried to pass it off as his own.

the only one i noticed really was the hot in here song, that one made me do a triple take cause i knew the chuck brown song.

as it still stands he needs to cut the check for the marvin gaye estate.

edit: and please don't think im caping for them cause im not but the vanity 6 example i liken it to impeach the president break beat.

Re: Did ROBIN THICKE steal MARVIN GAYE's SONG? ....well Marvin Gaye's FAMILY is SUING

I never got into the song specifically because it sounded like a re-fried version of "Got To Give It Up"

If they didn't give credit or pay for proper usage of the song, then it makes me not like the song even more.
