so we take the word nigga, which was used as a offensive term towards us for years, and make the word a term used in our own way and it's now such a huge problem. fuck white folks.

Should I look out for us or self? Unfortunately, it's often times viewed as two mutually exclusive notions. As Americans, it's in us to be upwardly mobile, to advance and be aggressive when it comes to our professional lives. Very rarely there is another person of the same hue waiting for us the further up we go, so it'll always appear as if we're playing for the other team. Then there is the matter of how we perceive ourselves and our thoughts of how others perceive us. "Double consciousness" as Dubois referred to it.
That's the downside of integration. Once it happened we felt as if we joined the "norm" and being on our own wasn't good enough. I remember this black chick I knew, she boasted that she never patronized black businesses. The whole "white man's ice is colder" mentality. I digress.
Bringing it back to Supreme's point.... We don't have any sense of self or purpose. There is no shared agenda amongst black Americans. No sense of solidarity. Nothing to strive to. I, too, grow tired of the momentary movement. We need to understand that no one will do it for us. It'll never be a case of marching and singing until somebody else gives it to us. Many around me called me a cynic because I wasn't moved by this nationwide march 4 Trayvon.
What does standing in traffic, holding signs and singing "We Shall Overcome" accomplish? Not a damn thing because marching and singing = no consequences when the next Trayvon Martin happens.

Why is it so hard for anyone to understand that when black people call each other the "N" word, it is not being used as a put-down but when white people call us that, it is almost always a put-down.
