Copped one for the fuck of it and traveling. To bad they are out of stock but not really sweating getting it fast..I have prime so it will be here early when they do restock. I am interested in what developers will come up with for the device.

Just found out that the bullshit has to be powered by USB so basically you have to have it plugged up via wire to an Xbox or PC...bullshit as marketing team made sure to keep that out and make it look like a fucking memory stick....canceling order for the pure fuckery.

i think yall are confusing what usb powered means.
u dont have to plug it into usb to charge. it has an adapter, like a micro usb phone charger.
Actually, from what I'm reading around the web is that the power is required only if your TV doesn't support a higher HDMI spec. basically if it's a newer model then the HDMI port will provide sufficient power thus no need for the usb cable. Also, most newer TVs have a USB port near the HDMI ports (mines do).
You can power it either way... connect the micro USB to a nearby USB port OR connect the micro USB cord to the power adapter plugged into the wall. HDMI may work depending on the TV or receiver, I'll let you know if my Onkyo works when I get mine tomorrow

Before I pulled the trigger on canceling my order I decided to do some research and found out my tv has Hdmi 1.4 ports that will power the chromecast

Yep it's definitely for existing customers too, although I'm hearing they've been taking the promo message down entirely. Who knows if it'll come back when it's back in stock
Yeah I am just looking at it from a marketers perspective, I really don't see what Netflix gains by giving away 3 months unless they have a stake in this device. We will see...when do you think the restock will pop off? I have a feeling that the sell out was done on purpose to give off that "retro Jordan" buzz.

the fact that they already released the api and pushing the developer angle means that some interesting shit should be coming down pretty soon.
i basically see this as the result of all their fuckups in the tv space. im sure they've learned alot over the last few yrs with googletv, the nexus q... fail enough times and u will eventually find a way to win...

Yeah I can see Google's angle...shit they are fucking geniuses. This little $11 device opens up sales for Google Play Movies/TV, Google music etc. I swear before I got a smart tv I would be damned if I bought or rented streaming movies...now I have no problem purchasing a quick movie to stream at 1080p for me and the fam to check out without all that downloading or copping a few episodes of Yo Gabba Gabba to throw on for my daughter. Now Netflix, they are strictly subscription based and do not sell movies or tv shows to stream so the only way they can capitalize off this shit is to gain new subscribers...I am sure they will but if they restricted the 3 months to only new subscribers they would make a killing.

Want to know how you're expected to connect your phones, tablets, and computers to that fancy Chromecast that's shipping in the mail? Simple, there's an app for that. Google has dropped dedicated software in the Play Store that configures all that Chromecast devices in your house, because I know there are a good number of you that have already ordered more than one.
The app will set up your Chromecast to work on your local network and give you an interface for managing its settings, such as changing the device's name or inputting a new WiFI password. It's all pretty straightforward, and this shouldn't be an app that gets fired up often. Presumably people can launch it when they first buy a Chromecast and proceed to ignore the app long enough to forget what that quirky app in their app drawer even is. And since an Android device isn't required to use Chromecast, there will still be other ways to get your device up and running.
It should go without saying that people need a Chromecast before this app does anything useful, but they don't need one to download it. Grab it below if you just can't bear to wait.

if u asked a tv manufacturer last week to integrate google into the hardware, they's look at googles continued failure in the living room and say no thanks.
google moves a few hundred thousand of these badboys in 6 months and get developers on board from day 1 and all of a sudden its a completely different discussion in that vizio boardroom...
plus dont let some ambitious team of devs figure out how to stream local content onto this lil dongle. at that point the game is pretty much wrapped up.
