Dr. Boyce: Jay-Z, Harry Belafonte is a MAN – Don’t You Ever Call Him a “Boy”

dont know much about their beef an i dont fuck with jay cause them bars were extra weak

dude really needs to start handling his shit like the business man an sit down wit belafonte
hashin shit out 1 on 1 wit the guy would probably go alot farther then any of his vague ass bars

u said u werent responding to me anymore...
be a man of ur word.

peace.

Actually what he said was Springsteen was more socially conscious and he was right. And your wheelchair analogy is patently ridiculous on so many levels. Most notably it presumes that Jay-Z responded to Belafontes criticism in similar but more effective fashion. He didnt. He responded to a criticism with a cheap weak rap lyric that only served to further make the original point of Belafonte more valid.

No, the cop out was you statement which sugested that maybe Jay-Z would suddenly "get it" in his mid 40's despite the near two decades worth of evidence to the contrary (including his latest effort from a week ago).

No, actually he jokingly said he thinks springstein is really a black man in the same breath as he's scolding jayz on not being more socially active.

If he really wanted to reach jay-z, he shoulda been the elder statesman, left the racial jab out of his remarks and addressed the man like a man...with respect.

If I reply to u and then end it saying "now stop acting like a bitch on her rag", u know for a fact that ur are gonna respond differently. And before u say its not the same, yes I regard a civil rights legend calling a white man a real black man while chastising another black man just as bad as the "bitch on her rag" remark.

...and yea u never know what words or actions will inspire change in a person. and for the narcissistic megarich cats, sometimes even knowing that ur name cant get any bigger no matter how much money u earn until u do something bigger inpires them to set larger goals that arent tied to cars, clothes and other material things. u just never know...

I'm certainly not expecting that from him. However, Jay Z has a voice that reaches the world. He's also a clever lyricist when he wants to be. It would just be cool if he used it for more than just talking about how much wealth he has amassed. I know I'm generalizing and his sprinkles in several other topics sparringly but for the most part, that what he does. Dude is like Tyler Perry regurgitating the same shit over and over again. His music business acumen is pretty incredible. He actually wildly overshadows his wife in that regard...but I listened to Magna Carta Holy Grail like damn man... you still ain't got shit else to talk about?

yea i feel the same way. i put magna carta down a few days after downloading it. ehh... i may try again to see which songs really stick but overall that album was more of a vehicle to sell product and make other moves than anything else. lyrics were solid but i havent been moved to rock it on repeat, w/ no skips like his other shit. i stopped expecting so much from a cat who has told us on every album exactly what we can expect from him tho. he is about his $$$ and every now and then u'll get a lil substance or a lil charity or whatever. but again, if and when he gets to the point where he wants to do and be more, he has the perfect platform.

when i was a kid i used to wonder what cats would rap about when they are old and comfortable and have gray hair and shit since hiphop is based so heavily on being young and hungry and having that passion to compete. i guess this, ll cool j's country song and krs 150 mediocre albums is the answer. kind of a bleak outlook on the oldhead rap scene... im still waitn on jay electronica to save the game.:hmm:

yeah there definitely hasnt been any growth from jay z

his first album talks about the very same shit as his last album

but people usually say, "hey thats jay z"

but to diss a man who really put in that work just teaches us his true mindset

in somewhereinamerica, he said the feds still watching

i replied, no they not, youre good friends with the biggest fed...at rallies and shit; thats not gangsta

maybe dude is just lost between who he thinks he is and who he really is

She talented but she's not great at anythng. Good but not great. She's probably the best in my generation but I agree that she hasn't put out any classics.

She's just really good at a lot of shit. She's a good singer..not even a great one but good enough to wear she can carry all the necessary notes. She's a good dancer...not a great dancer.. she's not gonna beat Ciara in a dance contest but she's a good dancer. Doing the both at the same time makes his distinctive. I don't think she's beautiful (but beauty is subjective) but she's good enough for her looks to be an asset....plus she's a top level worker and wildy ambituous. None of those things are enough on their own but when you put them ALL TOGETHER, you have a force of nature.

But she's definitely not winning any awards on her voice... she's not a writer...can't play instruments, etc.. nothing individually WOWS you....but she has the IT factor as a package..I actually met her before Destiny's Child blew up and you know how people say you can just tell someone is going to be a huge star right away.... girl just had IT...even at like 14-15 she killed her performance..and that was in front of like 100 people ...

but she may have a ton of hits but I would be hard pressed to name a real CLASSIC from Beyonce....and that's astounding considering how many albums she's sold.... it's really unique..i don't even think Rihanna is mildly talented but I think she's created better "music" than Beyonce... im done hijacking this thread though

Boyce >>> Jay

I can dig his music and can also appeciate the sometimes subtle lyricism that can go over people's heads.... but for the most part, Jay just rehashes the same shit over and over again. He's a better business man than he is an artist. We know you've made paper Jay...how about really talking about some shit that matters.

I'm not sure that I've ever listened to a Jay-Z album all the way through... Most overrated MC ever IMO.

the best thing he could have done is just not said shit.

and let belafonte say whatever

but its just funny that you expect people to just take shit..specially shit out of nowhere. i could see if he picked this mini fight.

and like i said. only one called upon in one breath

in the next he ain't shit.

his music is another issue other than this one.

musically he's in the same space and he needs to change. he needs to be inspired.. he hasn't been in years. he's in cruise control and no artist is great when in cruise control.

will he ever be inspired again? who knows, his life is too comfortable right now, with no end to that in sight.

if you want hunger go to the younger artists.

More hate for Black people from Black people. It never ends. No matter what you do, you will never do enough in the eyes of many Black folk.

I guess the saying is the same for our own people. "Doesn't matter if you are rich and successful, you are still a ******* in their eyes."

None of us are above getting checked.

Some of you're posters disagree especially if it's about folks who are at a higher financial standing than others. To many, as long as you're at a certain tax bracket or have acquired a certain level of success (especially if da said individual is well liked) than you're above reproach. If you do, you're "hatin'" on his/her success.

I don't want to come off as a hater but him and his wife seem perfect for each other...neither one of them talks about shit in their music. I respect their hustle...but artistically :smh::smh:

Criticism doesn't = hate & no one is above it but niggas are gonna want your head on a plate for that.

Beyonce is very one dimensional. She acts borderline retarded as if all she can do his sing and pop her Vag.

JayZ is very articulate and methodically and could do so much more but chooses to make money his God.

FWIW, money IS god to most of da populace of da US.

bruh... "they" are watching both of those black men.

ur confusing the fact that they may not be doing anything revolutionary or worth watching with the fact that they both ARE being monitored.

i think some of yall dont get how crucial this police state thing really is. its so easy for the powers that be to keep tabs on anybody at any time now. anyone with any real access or influence or potential to have influence...is being watched.

thats a aprt of the point of that lil line about miley still twerkin. he's saying even tho he's not selling drugs anymore, they still keep an eye on him cuz at this point he's more of a threat. he's influential to their kids.

these old heads need to master the art of pulling a youngin to the side.....

going public....in an interview...saying what another man isnt doing.:smh::smh::smh:

much respect to harry but how is Jay supposed to receive some shit like that...

"You dont know all the shit that I do for the homies...." - Jay-Z

Seems like a phone call could have resolved all this shit......

Man, let me explain something to you. They dont let anyone "white or black" experience that kind of wealth without knowing theyre in their back pocket. You dont sit a few rows back during the president inauguration without selling your soul and becoming one with that team. Theyre is small revolutionary black man, like Dr. Umar Johnson, who is 1000x more of threat than Jay Z will ever be. Hell bgols daddy Tariq Nasheed, probably has more of an FBI profile than Jay Z (due to his hidden color films).

"Oh but he gets paid, tho...."

Like I said, that's ALL most care about. Da admiration of da finances of others & idol/celebrity worship.

On another note, ain't nothin' kosher about sittin' up on a message board claimin' to be grown as hell vehemently defending other grown ass men as though your existence is known to them especially a muthafuckin' rapper. Some of these dudes. Man... :smh:

shit its true though.

Yeah, I know it is.

No, actually he jokingly said he thinks springstein is really a black man in the same breath as he's scolding jayz on not being more socially active.
Look man, you claimed he said Bruce was blacker than Jay. He didnt. Thats my point. And if your only response to a 86year old civil rights icon is to give a diss rap on a album where you have a song named after and glorifying a gay white fashion designer then there is no hope for you and your soul has been signed sealed and delivered long ago.

civil rights leader told jay-z that a white rock and roll legend was more of a black man than he is.

yea im glad the old guard is taking jay to task. but there's a way to address people fam.

thats like a old man in a wheel chair punchin u hard in the nuts and then when u knock his teeth out everybody is like

:smh: cmon fam u know that was a old man in a wheelchair. u aint have to do that.

Bruce springsteen just did a tribute to trayvon Martin at one of his recent shows. Just sayin...

who has a larger fbi file?
i dont know about that...neither do u... but im sure its possible that dr umar and tariq nasheeds files are bigger.

i also don't think the fbi is the only agency that keeps tabs on us citizens... but the point is.... whether u are in the pocket next to the president... or fighting the system, u are being monitored in 2013. specially if u are a black man of means or influence. period.

like dude above said, if the og really wanted to pull the younger mans collar a phone call woulda been nice. or... maybe respectfully calling on him to step up to the plate as a leader. his comments came off as petty and the response he got back matched it.

yea the album is cac'd out from cover art to the ode to a white gay guy. no argument there.

Bruce springsteen just did a tribute to trayvon Martin at one of his recent shows. Just sayin...

bruce springsteen is socially aware and has always been down in my book.
im not gonna go as far as joking that he's really a black man but the boss is as official as they get.

Yep for most on here its either, if its white its right or if they rich, then stop hating on them ya bitch.

To be fair, him and Sting were the only 2 megastars (that I know of) to do tributes to Amadou Diallo. Springsteen's was so raw and up front, that the F.O.P. told him to fall back, to which he responded, "Fuck off!"
