~Musician Lester Chambers attacked for Dedicating song to Trayvon on Stage~

Re: R&B Hall of Famer attacked ONSTAGE after Trayvon dedication

Funny how when the victim is a minority, the accused white gets the benefit of the doubt but when it's vice versa, the book gets thrown as us and we are supposed to be content with that.
You don't put your hands on your elders, no matter how wrong they are.

Re: R&B Hall of Famer attacked ONSTAGE after Trayvon dedication

That bitch out of line!!!

Ol buddy got up and roughed her up but she deserved more

There's a lot of blacks in hayward and I don't understand how this happened and she walked away.

I don't know the local laws there but do you cats realize that in Florida, he (or his bodyguard) could have killed her & claimed, "self defense" & it would have stood in court.

that's the precedent of the zimmerman case: NOTHING MATTERS EXCEPT WHO THREW THE 1ST PUNCH!

remember, under Florida law, you can use deadly force if you feel the threat of BODILY HARM, not death. she inflicted bodily harm...somebody should have beaten her soundly.

if death happens... it happens. it's time to play by their rules.

Re: R&B Hall of Famer attacked ONSTAGE after Trayvon dedication

They see us as a weak race. I don't know. Maybe dornor was on to something. They don't fear us at all.

They fear us but in a different way!! They know dat we dont stand together! ! If we stick together n e other race would b in trouble! ! Because there would b know one to look down on n e more! But since we dnt stand together they just kick us around!!

Re: R&B Hall of Famer attacked ONSTAGE after Trayvon dedication

Talk about white privilege, no one even tried to stop her from getting on the stage.
And it took her some effort to climb up on stage. I guess no one expected such behavior at a quiet local blues festival and everybody was in shock.
:dunno:

Re: R&B Hall of Famer attacked ONSTAGE after Trayvon dedication

2Pac spoke the truth

I wonder if heaven got a ghetto

I was raised, the little young nigga doin bad shit
Talk much shit cause I never had shit
I could remember being whupped in class
And if I didn't pass mama whupped my ass
Was it my fault papa didn't plan it out
Broke out left me to be the man of the house
I couldn't take it, had to make a profit
Down the block, got a glock, and I clock grip
Makin G's was my mission
Movin enough of this shit to get my mama out the kitchen and
why must I sock a fella, just to live large like Rockefeller
First you didn't give a fuck, but you're learnin now
If you don't respect the town then we'll burn you down
God damn it's a motherfuckin riot
Black people only hate police so don't try it
If you're not from the town then don't pass through
Cause some O.G. fools might blast you
It ain't right but it's long overdue
We can't have peace til the niggaz get a piece too
I want G's so you label me a criminal
And if I die, I wonder if heaven got a ghetto

[Chorus]

[Verse Two: 2Pac]

Here on Earth, tell me what's a black life worth
A bottle of juice is no excuse, the truth hurts
And even when you take the shit
Move counties get a lawyer you can shake the shit
Ask Rodney, LaTasha, and many more
It's been goin on for years, there's plenty more
When they ask me, when will the violence cease?
When your troops stop shootin niggaz down in the street
Niggaz had enough time to make a difference
Bear witness, own our own business
Word to God cause it's hard tryin to make ends meet
First we couldn't afford shit now everything's free
so we loot, please don't shoot when you see
I'm takin from the, cause for years they would take it from me
Now the tables have turned around
You didn't listen, until the niggaz burned it down
And now Bush can't stop the hit
Predicted the shit, in 2Pacalypse
And for once I was down with niggaz, felt good
in the hood bein around the niggaz, yeah
And for the first time everybody let go
And the streets is death row, I wonder if heaven got a ghetto

[Chorus]

[Verse Three: 2Pac]

I see no changes, all I see is racist faces
Misplaced hate makes disgrace to races
We under I wonder what it take to make this
one better place, let's erase the wait state
Take the evil out the people they'll be acting right
Cause both black and white are smokin crack tonight
And only time we deal is when we kill each other
It takes skill to be real, time to heal each other
And though it seems heaven-sent
We ain't ready, to have a black President, huh
It ain't a secret don't conceal the fact
The penitentiary's packed, and it's filled with blacks
I wake up in the morning and I ask myself
Is life worth living should I blast myself
I'm tired of being poor and even worse I'm black
My stomach hurts so I'm lookin for a purse to snatch
Cops give a damn about a ne-gro
Pull a trigger kill a ****** he's a hero
Mo' nigga mo' nigga mo' niggaz
I'd rather be dead than a po' nigga
Let the Lord judge the criminals
If I die, I wonder if heaven got a ghetto

Blues, rock, and soul musician Lester Chambers was attacked during a performance in Hayward over the weekend after he dedicated a song to slain Florida teenager Trayvon Martin. A woman has been arrested in the attack, CBS San Francisco reports.

According to witnesses, during a performance at the Hayward Russell City Blues Festival on Saturday, Chambers dedicated Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready" to Martin. While he sung, a woman leapt onto the stage and attacked the 73-year-old singer. Several band members and fans tackled the woman and made a citizen's arrest.

Chambers was taken to the hospital. He suffered bruises on his ribs and all over his body and is forced to walk with a cane.

At their Petaluma home, Chambers and his son Dylan shuddered as they watched video of the attack.

"It's beyond fathomable that happened to my father, a legend, someone so powerful for peace," Dylan Chambers told KPIX 5.

Lester Chambers recalled the attack. "I saw anger and for the short time I did see her she just came, 'You m---f----, you started this.' Boom! And I was down," he said.

The co-founder of the 1960s band The Chambers Brothers said he was singing about love and peace, as a tribute to Martin. He had just told the audience why he chose Mayfield's "People Get Ready."

"(Mayfield) sang 'People get ready, there's a train a coming.' And if he was here today singing it, he would prefer probably that we would say, 'People get ready there's a change a coming,'" Lester Chambers told KPIX 5.

Officers said 43-year-old suspect Dinalynn Andrews-Potter of Barstow refused to speak to police. She was cited and released.

Lester Chambers has a new album coming out this week, but because of the attack he is too afraid to do live performances to promote it.

He was not afraid to offer the suspect forgiveness. "I would say to her, get a little God in your heart, and let a little love come out of your soul."

The Chambers family believes the suspect should be charged with a hate crime, because the song was dedicated to Martin.

Police hope to turn the case over to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office on Tuesday.

Hayward, California: A woman has been arrested after allegedly jumping on stage at a US music festival and attacking a legendary musician after he dedicated a song to Trayvon Martin.

The woman, who police identified as 43-year-old Dinalynn Andrews Potter of Barstow, apparently yelled, "It's all your fault" before shoving 73-year-old Lester Chambers, his family says.

"She must have been an acrobat. She did it in one leap. He didn't see her coming," Lola Chambers said.

"She had a crazed look in her eye," said Kurt Kangas, a friend of Mr Chambers who ran to his aid on Saturday.

Lester Chambers was attacked for dedicating a song to 17-year Trayvon Martin.

Mr Chambers was performing at the Hayward Russell City Blues Festival downtown when around 5.15pm local time he dedicated Curtis Mayfield's hit People Get Ready to Martin, the 17-year-old shot and killed by George Zimmerman.

A Florida jury acquitted Zimmerman on all charges on Saturday.

Mr Chambers told the audience if Mayfield were around today, he'd change the lyrics "there's a train a comin"' to "there's a change a comin,"' his wife Lola Chambers said on Sunday.

"She must have been an acrobat. She did it in one leap. He didn't see her coming," Lola Chambers said.

Eyewitnesses and Hayward police said people on stage subdued Andrews Potter after she allegedly shoved Chambers.

Though the police investigation into a motive continues, family members believe the attack was racially motivated and was a result of Chambers' mention of Martin.

The family is pressing police to file hate crime charges. Andrews Potter is white, they said. Chambers is black.

Hayward police took Andrews Potter to the police station, where she was arrested on suspicion of battery.

She was cited and released, and could face additional charges in the coming days, according to Hayward police Lieutenant Ruben Pola.

Mr Chambers, a Petaluma, California, resident, was taken to the hospital but has since been released, and is using a cane to walk.

A photo his son posted on Facebook shows a large welt on his backside.

His son said Mr Chambers had a "bruised rib muscle and nerve damage and he is sore all over."

Mr Chambers was a member of the 1960s soul group Chambers Brothers and has had a well-publicised fight with record executives over decades of royalty payments he said he has never received.

The Chambers Brothers will be part of the inaugural class inducted into the R&B Hall of Fame later this year, Lola Chambers says.
