I don't need critics to tell me what I heard. If an obscure rapper had put out this techno/rock album more people would be calling it what it is, a sloppy experiment that is very hit and miss even on the level of individual songs having hot parts and wack parts. I applaud the fact that a popular artist took such risks but the fact remains that the quality of the music/lyrics is all over the place.

Instead of Daft Punk, Kanye should have reached out to EL-P to do this type of album the right way... and EL-P probably would have thrown the man some clues about putting deeper lyrical content on there especially over a "Strange Fruit" sample of all things.

Listened to the first three songs and came to the conclusion it wasn't for me (delete delete delete)... not gonna say its trash, just not my taste.
 
This is just one of those things where you either like it or don't like it. No middle ground. It's staying in my rotation for now. If you don't like it, well then...:dunno:

Naw, you got it right quoting critics. I should just follow suit even if my better judgment tells me otherwise. Critics obviously know what sounds good so I can't rely on my ears.
 
Kanye will now be praised as the first to make a rap record like this when he's really not. Let's Go To War, Cannibal Ox and Busdriver just to name a few have been making hip-hop with an industrial or techno sound. If it wasn't for Kanye's previous underground style jacking it wouldn't be so bad, but dudes been straight taking from indie artists and acting like its all his original ideas.
