Game Of Thrones: The Sopranos with swords or Dynasty in chainmail?

The reason the Starks let their guard down is because of the hospitality custom. In the beginning of the episode you see the Starks eating bread and salt. That's the beginning of the custom. Once you eat bread and salt from another man's house. You're brought under his protection and are supposed to be safe. That's what Walder Frey was talking about in the beginning. Frey broke something that was almost as sacred as the bedding after a wedding in Northern tradition. It's like you can break every tradition in the book but the hospitality one was supposed to be sacred.

^^^This. Rob knew he was walking into a dangerous situation. The show director made sure to spend all that camera time watching the salt and bread get passed around, hearing Frey say he was under their protection, and having King Rob make that long ass apology for a reason.

The goal was to get both Rob and YOU (the watcher) to let their guard down.

For everyone talking about the Starks lack of reaction and fighting back at the wedding feast, watch it again. NOT ONE SINGLE NORTHERNER had a weapon on them, although apparently the dinner knives were extra sharp. :D:dunno::( :smh:

You right...and against those archers w/ the machine gun style bow + arrows w/ the high vantage point...they never stood a chance

Not to mention, Rob's men where drunk off their ass and Bolton and probably some of the Frey's didn't drink at all.

it can but it ain't even the point.

he was so worried it was going to be an ugly chick he developed a relationship with a random pretty one just so he could marry her instead. lol

he joked with his wife that maybe he mad a mistake...

yes, yes he did.

he would have had a pretty chick and the army.

instead he's dead.

but he's only 16 so he gets a pass.

16 damn!

If Game Of Thrones took place entirely on Facebook: Season 3, Episode 9.

I would even agree that Walder Frey is a bitch for breaking the "guest right",but he should of known Walder Frey would try to do something.

Even is own mother told him,all the way back from Season 1 told him Walder Frey isnt someone to be trusted and yet he actually thought it was one way..

Robb should of had his guard up at all times and yet he thought "guess right" would protect him,for his stupidity...especially after slighted Walder Frey twice....He's a bigger fool than his father was.....:smh::smh::smh:

This is the reason why the Starks stay losing, because they think having honor would get them out of tough situations...The only Stark that seems to get it is Arya :hmm:

Wow. Didnt realize he was THAT young. Even if we give the TV character a few more years for the fuck of it he is still much younger than i would have thought.

yea i just assumed by their looks their ages. i thought that him and jon were waaaaay older than they were. that's why i was so hard on him. supposedly being a 30 year old or 25 year old dude and making decisions like that.

THEN i found out how old they were...just recently too. i just assumed, never cared to look but the whole thing got that much better to me. because its realistic. a 16 year old would do that shit lol. all of it

Yep, when ned got his head lopped off, robb was all of 15/16. At this point, of the story, jon is around the same age as robb, sansa is 13/14, arya is around 11/12, bran is 10 and rickon is around 5/6.

You're a 16 y/o king and general, you'd be like 'fuuuck dat' to marrying some ugly duck too:lol:

^^^ I think that for the purposes of the show, they aged Robb and Jon up 2 years so they could in fact have sex scenes. They were 17 when the series started. They are 18 now. Still young/green as hell though.

Man I'm still tripping off that Red Wedding shit. That is the absolute rawest scene in HBO history. I don't even think Bodie or Omar's death on the Wire could mess with it. I was riding for the Starks too. I wanted Robb to cut Joffrey's damn head off. One of you book reading bamas pm me what actually happens to Joffrey's punk ass in the end. I hate that character. :hmm:

Cosign. Being young is no excuse here because Arya has been wise to the game from the jump. Every other Stark except Rickon has made a stupid mistake that's cost them.

Catelyn released Jaime that led to Roose having an asset to gain favor with the Lannisters
Ned didn't pick a side when Robert died and lost his head.
Bran went climbing after his mother told him not to and lost use of his legs for it.
Sansa fell for Joffrey before she actually knew the kind of person he was.
Robb's errors have been well documented
Jon hasn't made any....yet. I can see it coming though. He's still green and needs seasoning.

Theon should be an Honorary Stark just by the level of stupidity he's shown since Robb let him go back to Pyke.

One of the few things I love about this show is that it reflects real life very well. The Starks are one of the oldest houses in westeros, even predating the arrival of the Targaryans.

The Stark house grew complacent, the current generation of Starks thought their name and having honor was enough to command respect, they haven't carried their legacy well and most of them lack common sense.

I love this show but since the series premier it's been open season on the Starks. They have got to be the biggest losers in this saga. These fucks catch L after L. I hope the dragon bitch fuck er'body up! Er'body!

No bullshit. They are all likeable characters, but man they are getting punished in nearly every episode. :roflmao3:

I like the Lanaster family too, I just don't like that faggot Joffrey and his moms. Joffrey's mom told Ned some real gangster shit early on in the series, something like "You better learn how to properly play this Game of thrones if you want to survive". Damn if she wasn't right. Fool got aced out with the quickness when I thought he would be a prominent character in the show. R.I.P. Stark family.

I don't think the Starks grew complacent at all. They are just out of their comfort zone when it comes to playing the Game of Thrones.

Historically, the Starks and all the other Northerners purpose was to server as a buffer between the Wildlings and the rest of the realm. They volunteered themselves or their sons to join the Nights Watch. So character traits like honor and integrity was meaningful traits for them because it mattered to the primary role they played in the Kingdom.

Meanwhile down South, where danger from random attacks are not a factor, people been playing the Game of Thrones for generations. So being good at treachery, side dealing and betraying folks are valued skills.

Cat was from the River Lands and knew from the jump Ned wasn't built for that game. That's why she didn't want him to become hand of the king in the first place.

-damn, 2 families wiped out @ 1 wedding.

-lord karstark, told rob he fucked up the day he married talisa.

-frey even told rob he would have choose talisa & broke vows,.

Rob had two arrows in his chest before he could have done anything while his men were getting their throats slit. Thats why he was telling his mother no when she had the knife because he saw that they had already lost. He probably knew they wouldn't have killed his mother but she fucked up when she killed the girl

^^Cosign...I believe Cat went through a 5 stages of grief during the red wedding. Then received an education in Westeros policy, as she cut Lord Walder's wife's throat she stopped seeing the world as she had imagined it to be (family, duty, honor) and saw the world as it really is (brutal & unforgiving) Cat said fuck it I don't want to live in this world now that I see the truth, killed the innocent girl and knew she would be killed...she embraced her fate

She did not fuck up, Fuck the Starks.
She is indeed a Tully!
Ned could of been king way before but he let his friend have the throne.

He was not built for this and he raised his kids accordingly.

Only Stark that has hope is Anya, she has the will...

Tully's have been slaves and servant's to the Iron Born for a large part of their history. Riverlands have no natural boundaries to protect them from invaders. Tully's have been generally passive and needed alliances to remain safe.

Ned was the second son, was not groomed for leadership, his brother Brandon was the leader he was quiet and shy. He was forced to take Brandon's place.

Arya is learning not to believe or trust ANYONE

Naw, Ned did his thing. Neither he or Robert were fit to be king. neither wanted it and Ned didn't want to be Hand of the king. Robert fucked up by taking him out of his element. If he hadnt ordered Ned to be hand, Ned would have joined Stannis and kicked some Lannister but

Robert was one of the greatest warriors in Westeros history; think Thor they both use war hammers. Robert and Ned only rebelled due to Lyanna Stark disappearing with Rhaeghar Targaryen...neither of them had ambitions of being king. Robert knew he wasn't fit to be king so he had Jon Arryn and Ned (more responsible allies as his hand)

true, except i think bran is on his way to being very capable.

they would make an awesome bro/sis ruling combo. shes the killer, hes the brain.

I am in the minority but I see Bran as a shadowy figure, I think he's going to be a villian

Shamed for all the realm to see FOREVER? It wasn't that serious. If it were the Frey's would have got at Rob the moment he got married. The Karstarks lost a son and when they felt like their honor wasn't being upheld they handled it straight up.

Keep in mind the Frey's were a minor house. Marrying a Tully or a Bolton was considered a good match for them. They wasn't getting no part of a Stark under normal circumstances.

Lord Walder was just opportunistic cause he knew he had Lannister's support but he went overboard with it. Nothing bout that was justified.

Lord Walder Frey said in season 1, Lannisters, Starks, Tully's they all look down upon the Frey's and had no intention of siding with either. Frey's have a severe inferiority complex so any minor slight would be seen as MAJOR to them.

Robb was winning the war with the Lannisters initally even Tywin said he has a good mind for war. Robb had leverage when he captured Jaime; should have used it! Send an Ultimatium to Tywin release my sisters now or we'll send Jamie's head in a box in a fortnight. Hesitating hurts in any conflict the opponent can't see indecision on your end, he had the perfect chance to force Tywin or Cersei into a rash action out of their love for Jamie

All the Starks are good honet people; they just believe passion should will be rewarded over brutality and that truth is more powerful than GOLD

Far as that spoiler shit...It's not even hard to figure out.. It's just a fat lonely ass dude who is happy that he read, researched and jacked off to some books so he wants to let everyone know that he did so..

While,I agree,Robb still should of had his guard up,he actually though Walder Frey would let that shit slide...Even his mother told him in Episode 8 that being at the wedding late would be considered a slight against him and he did it anyways....

If he haven't fucked up his relationship up with the Karstarks, maybe he would be alive right now...

Rob's brain is smaller than Roose Bolton's bar tab...Everyone told him the Frey's are not trustworthy or honorable

The only member of his side that had their sword out was Edmure and I believe he killed that Frey girl with it during the bedding

You right...and against those archers w/ the machine gun style bow + arrows w/ the high vantage point...they never stood a chance

In a battle the high ground is always advantageous...remember the movie "The Rock" ?

I think Walder Frey is going to catch a bad one. Almost all of the Freys will probably get it after that slick move.

I think the entire house will be eliminated and I think Jon Snow is going to be responsible for their genocide

can't ride for families. when they killed ned all bets were off for me. then i realized what type of series i was watching. so when the red wedding happened, sure it was crazy as fuck. same time, i was waiting for that other shoe to drop the entire episode. shit was too fishy. everybody so close to where they should be but not making it... nah something bad was gonna happen.

its funny how the american audience is so sensitive to this type of stuff overall from a show.

but not to shit in real life

Where's that dude that brings people back from the dead? If you had your choice of just one Stark to bring back, who would it be? Ned, Robb, Cat?

Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
