Spurs Vs Grizzles Thread

In other words he is guarding nothing, if they aint shooting inside... Top defender should be able to guard the whole floor, where the ball is not just a area.... Thats like a outfielder catching only the balls that are hit directly towards him..
Shit Noah went out and guarded the perimeter vs the Heat and did pretty well..
Gasol may be doing his job, but the best defender should be able to do more than that.

The nigga is 7 foot 280+. You want him to guard Parker? You wilding. If Gasol wasn't a threat in the paint the Spurs would be driving to the basket. Instead they drive to the basket and get contested just to throw it out to the wide open 3 point shooter.

Yea Grizz if you want to even win 1 game this series you better learn how to start closing out on 3 point shooters.....or start again. They did a great job during the season.

welp... i'm a call this now spurs in 5 games

we have no answers

grizz got embarrassed

Shit man same thing happened to Gilber Arenas

He came in at like 19 and was washed up by 29

Yea man I guess that's what it comes down to. Fuck how old you are its about how long you been in the league. If T-Mac 34 than that nigga is damn near a 15 year pro.....I guess he just got whooped by father time.

Flood gates have opened.

I attribute this to bad defense on Memphis part. Spurs was broke last series. At this point Memphis has gave the spurs their shooting confidence back.

If Z-Bo gonna play like this then you're right. You're probably gonna have to put up 100 a night to compete with the Spurs and this shit here? Not gonna cut it. I still think its gonna be a series though. But yea I didn't expect this type of performance from the Grizz. Its like everything they do well they didn't do today.

Got damn Spurs put they foot in Grizz ass. They better play better defense quick or this will be a short series.

they need to close out on 3's

and make sure they get the spurs in foul trouble in the paint. make this shit ugly
that's how they beat okc.

you can't have clean pretty basketball.
the spurs will beat you if they just free to run and do whatever. the spurs defense isn't this good.

nope they got too much scoring.. we can't keep up..especially with gasol scared to shoot

Y'all defense is your greatest offense. I'm a firm believer in defense winning. Scoring is collateral of great defense, especially for a team like Memphis.

this was an outlier

Unless Zbo barely scoring and the Spurs draining threes like layups is what we expect to happen all the time.

a few things to note

Manu is still playing like ass.

The key to getting into the Spurs is to flatten Parker out on that pick and roll. OKC put Sefalosha on him last year and blew up SAS offensive rythm last year

Randolph has to fight for deeper position on his initial catch.

Yeah. They should notice that with Parker. Like to see that adjustment.

not even coach pop expects san antonio to keep shooting at that clip; they will cool-off.

randolph laid down today.

the NBA = pro wrasslin.:lol::lol:

who the fuck else thought that boris diaw would contain and limit zack to this level?

boris-fucking-diaw???? ain't no way in hell.:smh:

the playoffs don't begin until somebody loses at home. the grizz has to toss this game in the trash and reset.

1 point or 30 points, it's just 1 loss. fuck it.

i keep wondering why a lot of media heads thought Memphis was the team to come out of the west. The only reason they are where they are now is because Westbrook got hurt. I even heard some dude on ESPN radio say they had the best chance to beat Miami..

memphis does have the best chance IMO; two big men that can score = trouble for the heat. indiana may show that weakness.

with gasol and zack on the block, can bosh play both? who's gonna help him AND score...haslem?

san antonio has a chance but bosh vs duncan is a wash and now, you have a toss up. when it comes to coaching, i give the edge to coach pop, but lebron would be the difference maker.

as i've said before, miami's easiest route to a chip is with san antonio... and that's IF they get past indiana this year. no one doubts that they will, but one injury, etc., and you never know.

make it ugly.
that's how the grizzlies win.

that's how they've always won.

if you would've let the clippers run free
or okc run free
you wouldn't be in the conference finals.

Agreed. These teams that don't have a clear All-Star seemingly need to play that 'ugly basketball' in order to stay in the game or keep it close. If they don't get physical, feed their post players and play defense for 60 minutes, they're done. Indiana, Memphis, Chicago... all have to play that 'ugly basketball'.

they dont have anywhere near enough backcourt offense. Miami would likely run them out of the building. JMO of course.. at least the Spurs would have that X factor of having a coach who can gameplan well.

I would like for him to be more than a liability and someone you have to take out against certain teams... If you are the defensive player of the year you shouldn't never get pulled out the game because they need more defense.. To me Gasol is big and strong, but only a one trick poney who is so slow that he can only defend where he is standing.

Whoa. He's a liability now? You're wilding. Its one thing to be upset he won DPOY but come on. The nigga ain't no liability. And under your description every good big man defender is a liability because he can't go out on the perimeter and guard a Tony Parker. Do you expect Tony Allen to guard Tim Duncan in the post?

not even coach pop expects san antonio to keep shooting at that clip; they will cool-off.

A few things.

Diaw was on Randolph on a few possessions but that wasn't no single defender. Duncan was on him a lot tonight and even then a guy like Green or Leonard would help out. Popovich isn't dumb. He knows the Grizz aren't great shooters so he's gonna try and get rid of one of their better scorers in Z-Bo. But that being said, he did lay down. I'd give Spurs some credit for that because mentally he was done.

And yea if the Grizz continue to leave the Spurs open for 3 they will continue to hit them. They shot 37% from 3 as a TEAM. The gameplan should've been to stop the 3. But this ain't no fluke. You leave them wide open they gonna hit that 3. Especially in the corner. I mean that's been the Spurs MO for the past 3 years. Ginobilli or Parker drives just to kick out to there open 3 point shooter in the corner.

The reason Memphis should be concerned is, Zach is the only one that didn't have his regular numbers scoring wise and even if he scored 20 today, basing it completely off the final score, they still lose by 2. And on top of that, Duncan and Balki only combined for 13 points so, that doesn't bode well for the Grizzlies at all
