MERGED - Damn... Kobe with probable Achilles tear

non surgical? Please explain. Thought surgery was the only option in this case.

They put my foot in a cast at a 45 degree angle, toes pointed down, for 2 weeks and put it in another cast with my foot level for 2 weeks. The Achilles repairs itself, after that you need therapy to regain flexibility and strength in the Achilles and calf.

Re: Kobe's OUT

Would be nice...but they traded their 1st round draft pick for Steve Nash.

Oh, you're right. I forgot it was a 1st rounder. Well, with Mamba out, maybe Nash can be Nash again, as far as being the point and setting everything up.

Wow. Interesting. Thanks for the info.

Re: Kobe's OUT

Miami won't be able to keep ALL 3. I'm sure somebody will be headed to LA.

Easy chuck

You forgot all 3 got to justify why they joined forces they already have 1 chip on a quest for 2

You forgot they took pay cuts from the outset what makes you think them niggas won't take pay cut again to stay together? The league can't stop that shit

Nash is stealing $. He should retire if he really cared about the Lakers winning. Lesson: don't raise other people's Suns. Nash...Antoni...:smh:

Re: Kobe's OUT

wow, can't believe cats are excited that kobe is injured. Even as a rival you have to respect the man's body of work and career accomplishments. Every dude laughing knows that they'd kill for a talent like kobe on their team.

you dumb niggas are celebrating a black athlete tearing his achilles tendon? I swear, you people are clowns. How is that news for celebration? What has he done to you ( besides live the life you wish you had )?

it's like people wishing death on an artist, because they hate their music. I never really understood that.

Re: Kobe's OUT

not good enough to win it all but they were good enough to win last night against the better team with gasol carrying them for the 3rd straight game

they also help from the refs all game, especially monty mccutchen, who called that phantom foul on harrison barnes at the end of the flop which led to an injury and the "foul" on stephen curry sending blake to the line for 2 FT attempts to take the lead

the officiating last night was borderline cheating.

:smh:

So now The Lakers should win it all since kobe was the one holding them back. Now they have no excuses.

Dominique Wilkins, needing 25 points to reach the 20,000 mark in his career, sustained a season-ending ruptured right Achilles' tendon in the second quarter of tonight's game between Atlanta and Philadelphia.

Dr. David Apple, the Hawks' team physician, said Wilkins would be out for six to nine months.

"I'll be back," Wilkins said after the game. "When I heard it pop, I knew what it was. First thing on my mind was my season was over and I started thinking about next year.

"I knew it was pretty bad."

Apple said the 10-year veteran would undergo surgery in a few days, adding that 99 percent of the time the operation and recovery is successful.

Earlier today, Wilkins was named a reserve forward on the Eastern Conference All-Star team. It would have been his seventh appearance in the All-Star Game. Wilkins was second in the N.B.A. in scoring this season with a 28.6 average.

He had hoped to cap the day by becoming only the 17th player in N.B.A. history to reach the 20,000-point plateau -- the 21st including players in the defunct A.B.A.

Que was a shell of himself after the surgery ...

he averaged 30ppg the next season what are you talking about

Re: Kobe's OUT

Maybe I'm lost.Tthe Lakers won last night and are still ahead of Utah. All they have to do is win out. Utah barely beat the Wolves last night at home and play them again on monday.

they ain't getting 50 free throws if kobe ain't in.

Stern made the call to confirm the injury then the call to the head of refs last night

watch all that shit just fall apart

Re: Kobe's OUT

Just amnesty Kobe, let him sit out a year, and come back in 2015 for a final year. but Kobe is going to try and play in 2 months. :smh::smh:

Re: Kobe's OUT

Ive always stated the the one player that I hate in the NBA is Kobe. Really hate him!! But thats mainly because of my love for MJ. Even though Kobe was never gonna outshine MJ.... Kobe was and still is the only player in the NBA whos career somewhat stacks up to MJ's; Anyone comparing LBJ to MJ or Magic is damn fool!!

But anyways...
I dont want to see Kobe surpass MJ on the all time scoring list. I dont want to see him get 6 rings. But.....due to how i felt when D Rose went down I cant sit here and celebrate what this guy is and will be going through. I was literally crying at my PC when D Rose got hurt..so I can understand how Lakers fans must feel right now.

Whether you folks want to accept it or not..thats a serious injury that he has. Based off his style of play prior to the injury...who knows what he will be like after he heals. But....imho...Kobe is a competitor. So Im sure he'll be just fine; thats my hope.

Kobe... he's still a copy kat snitch bitch in my eyes...but I hope he gets well soon.

Wow. Interesting. Thanks for the info.

it was still attached.

if it was a complete tear, this is not an option.

not even close.

in a full tear, the pre-existing tension separates the remaining halves by too great a distance. so much so that the remaining half retreats up the calf.

Que was a shell of himself after the surgery ...

athletically? yes.

but his game was more complete and well-rounded.

shows how dedicated he became to his craft. no longer able to use his athletic gifts, he had to enhance his other skills in order to survive.

Re: Kobe's OUT

These dudes on twitter going crazy :smh:

Man, I've read some shit that made me go :smh:

I was hoping I was reading the comments of people young who had never been through real adversity of their own.

I guess because I'm a fan of what's on the front of the uniform and not the back. All the fake fans can leave as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Kobe's OUT

yall keep talking about officiating...to get to the freethrow line you have to go in the paint and draw fouls. is that what the warriors are known to do?

Re: Kobe's OUT

One of the key rules of individual success:
Make yourself indispensable to the team.
Even when Kobe's out, his aura hangs over

Kobe Bryant likely out 9 months (surgery today)

http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/nba/...os-angeles-lakers-6-9-months-achilles-surgery

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Kobe Bryant will have surgery Saturday afternoon to repair the torn Achilles tendon in his left leg and his recovery timetable is expected to take 6-9 months, according to longtime Los Angeles Lakers trainer Gary Vitti.

"When something like this happens, everybody wants to know why and there's not always a reason why. If you look at our season, it's been a nightmare," Vitti said following Lakers practice Saturday. "We had a player come in with a surgery, which was Dwight Howard. Then we had Steve Nash break his leg. Then we had Steve Blake have an abdominal surgery. Then we had Jordan Hill with a hip surgery. Then we had Metta (World Peace) with a knee surgery. We also had Dwight with a (torn) labrum in his shoulder. Antawn Jamison will have surgery after the season is over on his wrist. So, when you try to look at the whys, it's bad luck."

Vitti said Bryant would be immobilized up to a month or more following surgery. If Bryant were to recover on the short end of the timetable Vitti provided, he could be able to play for the start of the 2013-14 season.

"That's the plan," Vitti said.

Bryant's injury was described as a "complete rupture" by Vitti.

"It's gone," said Vitti. "So, it has to be sewn back together."

Bryant fell to the floor with 3:08 remaining in the fourth quarter while being guarded by the Warriors' Harrison Barnes. Bryant had played every minute of the game up to that point, scoring 32 points in the process -- including back-to-back 3-pointers to tie the game with 3:45 remaining.

"I made a move that I make a million times and it just popped," said Bryant after the game.

Bryant asked Barnes if he had kicked him in the leg. When Barnes said he hadn't, Bryant said he knew that a major injury had occurred.

"I was just hoping it wasn't what I knew it was," Bryant said. "Just trying to walk it off, hoping that the sensation would come back, but no such luck."

Following a timeout, Bryant went back into the game and hit both of his free throw attempts with the injury to end his night with 34 points, five rebounds and four assists before being subbed out for World Peace and heading to the locker room.

"MRI, surgery and then recovery," Bryant replied when asked what his next step is. "I was really tired, man. Just tired in the locker room and dejected and thinking about this mountain to overcome. I mean, this is a long process and wasn't sure I could do it. Then your kids walk in and you're like, 'I need to set an example. Daddy is going to be fine.' I can do it. Work hard and just go from there."

Recovering from surgery to repair a torn Achilles can take anywhere from three months to a year. The Los Angeles Clippers' Chauncey Billups recently went through the process. Hall of Famer Charles Barkley's career came to an end because of it, as did the career of Bryant's longtime teammate Shaquille O'Neal.

"I've never really had to deal with something like this," said Bryant. "It's a new experience for me. Obviously, there's been a bunch of players that have had the same injury, so, all I can do is look at them and what they've done and who had more success coming back quicker and healthier and see what they did and see if I can improve upon it."
