It took a moment for Miami Heat superstar Chris Bosh to realize that his home had been broken into — and $479,000 worth of watches, rings, purses and cash taken.
“You see certain things are not where they were and you figure it out,” Bosh told The Miami Herald Thursday.
The Heat forward had been out on the town Wednesday celebrating his 29th birthday, a Moroccan bash featuring a bejeweled cake, two camels, and Heat teammates dressed up in Saharan garb.
Bosh and his wife left home at about 7:30 p.m. and returned at about 12:30 a.m., according to police.
Back at home, thieves were busy ransacking his 12,368-square-foot home on Miami Beach’s North Bay Road. Easily traceable items, like Bosh’s championship ring, were left behind, said Miami Beach Police Sgt. Bobby Hernandez.
“That’s why me and my family take certain precautionary measures,” Bosh said. “We do things in a certain way and now it’s just a process. And it’s not a good feeling but we have it set up a certain way so we can get to the bottom of this, so we’ll get there.”
Taken were purses worth $155,000, two rings totaling $4,000, 12 watches worth more than $300,000 and $20,000 in cash, according to a police report.
Two babysitters and a teenager were at the house, watching the Bosh’s children, when the burglary happened, according to a police report. None of them “heard anything or saw anyone else inside the house,” according to a police report.
The babysitters and teenager were questioned by police.
