History Channel’s Vikings is just as brutal as Game of Thrones

Vikings, the new scripted show from the History Channel is bonkers violent. It's like Game of Thrones without the nudity. Backed by historical research and lots of sexy Australian actors, this show is the channel's first venture into scripted drama. Thankfully writer Michael Hirst from Elizabeth, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, and The Tudors is manning this ship, which gives us a lot of hope for the series. We've got a great clip of some impressively bloody footage showcasing the way sexy TV Vikings slaughter their enemies! Still, the show doesn't glorify its violence too much.

Here's the official synopsis:

Vikings follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok the greatest hero of his age. The series tells the sagas of Ragnar's band of Viking brothers and his family, as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes. As well as being a fearless warrior, Ragnar embodies the Norse traditions of devotion to the gods, legend has it that he was a direct descendant of ****, the god of war and warriors.

Vikings will premiere on The History Channel on March 3rd.

I didn't know this was a scripted drama until the latest promos. I thought it was a documentary series.

After tha Moors were driven out of Europe history was rewritten to make everything and everbody who ever did anything important a European(except tha Moors cause that was still fresh).

Look at it this way everbody important in Europe was white but in Africa white people still had to be tha focal point in important things i.e Egypt tha most influential empire ever and Hannibal tha greatest general who ever lived were both contributed to Europeans being tha main characters.Hell they'll admit that Africans were tha 1st people on Earth but tha same time tha son of God is a blue eyed blonde hair cac.They didn't even exist for tens of thousands of years and God made man in his image but his son is a cac.......
Seems to me this group suffers from a inferiority complex.

They're off to a great start. Even as a somewhat family filtered show, they did well. There is some sex, though non-gratuitous. I wanna see what's up with Ragnar's brother jonesing for his wife...is there a past? Ragnar looks like he's gonna be in contention for leadership of the tribe, or setting his son up for it.

The same people that are wondering why people would watch this are the same people that didn't watch Rome. If it's a good show, it's a good show. So far it's an ok show.

Historically, Vikings may have raided as far south as Egypt. Does that knowledge make you want to watch?

I'm a big history channel buff and so far so good. They will stay close to the story without straying for dramatic effect. They did the same thing with the Hatfields & McCoys mini-series last year. I also like the fact that they are using reputable actors, like Gabe Byrne, for these series.

Really liking this show. It's a good alternative to Game of Thrones and Spartacus so far. Only thing I hate is that extra blue they CGI'ing into Ragnar's eyes.
