not a rare pic but this is the widow of Medgar Ever now. She never stopped fighting for Civil Rights even after Medgars death. Here she is at Obamas 2nd inauguration at age 80. She looks fantastic for her age and her mind is still sharp!

Man...talk about someone that got better with age. Woman don't look a bad day over 55. 60 at most. I applaud her and her fight.

And as usual, YOUR only role on BGOL is to leave wack ass comments and NOT contribute.

Here's a interesting photo for you...

<img src="http://www.math.buffalo.edu/mad/Ancient-Africa/ishango_bone.jpg">

The oldest mathematical objects in the world have been found in sub-Saharan Africa.

The picture is of Ishango bones. They were found near Lake Edward on the borders of Uganda and Zaire and are estimated to be 25,000 years old. At one end of the Ishango Bone is a piece of quartz for writing, and the bone has a series of notches carved in groups (shown above). It was first thought these notches were some kind of tally marks as found to record counts all over the world. However, the Ishango bone appears to be much more than a simple tally. The markings on rows (a) and (b) each add to 60. Row (b) contains the prime numbers between 10 and 20. Row (a) is quite consistent with a numeration system based on 10, since the notches are grouped as 20 + 1, 20 - 1, 10 + 1, and 10 - 1. Finally, row (c) seems to illustrate for the method of duplication (multiplication by 2) used more recently in Egyptian multiplication. I would agree with you if religious types kept their views to themselves, but they don't - some shout through a loud speaker in the street, other knock on doors pushing their thoughts onto others as well as a multitude of other ways.

You don't go up to strangers telling them how to live their life, why tell them what to do regarding religion?

Peeps should be entitled to go about their biz without all that.

Charles Richard Drew (3 June 1904 – 1 April 1950) was an African-American physician, surgeon,and medical researcher. He researched in the field of blood transfusions, developing improved techniques for blood storage, and applied his expert knowledge to developing large-scale blood banks early in World War II. This allowed medics to save thousands of lives of the Allied forces. As the most prominent African-American in the field, Drew protested against the practice of racial segregation in the donation of blood, as it lacked scientific foundation, an action which cost him his job. In 1943, Drew's distinction in his profession was recognized when he became the first black surgeon selected to serve as an examiner on the American Board of Surgery.

February 2, 1848 - The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo is signed between the U.S. and Mexico, ending the Mexican-American War (1846–48). With the defeat of its army and the fall of the capital, Mexico entered into negotiations to end the war. Mexico was forced to give the U.S. 55% of its land – the Mexican territories of Alta California and Santa Fé de Nuevo México – which now are the U.S. states of California, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and Arizona as well as Texas.

(image: map of Mexico and the U.S. before the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo)

this ain't exactly true. yes, the usa and mexico signed a treaty, but when mexico was waring with spain, the powers that be in the usa figured mexico couldn't fight both spain AND the usa at the same time, and just TOOK the land you mentioned which ended up being california, new mexico, utah, colorado, texas and arizona. and yep, just like they did to the native americans, politicians back then broke the treaty signed with mexico and DARED them to declare war on the usa -- while already in a state of war with spain.

if you look at usa maps that show the years each state entering the union prior to 1960, you'll see that it says 'ANNEXED' and the year for those states only.
