Why is everything, always, and forever based on envy?
Why would Spike have envy toward Tarantino's project?
You can see from these threads and multiple blogs that many black folks that are not in the film industry also shared a real contempt for this sort of project and how the period piece has been handled.
Let's be honest about this discussion by agreeing Tarantino knew there would be an audience for his movie.
He also knew there would be detractors.
He was quite comfortable making this movies and even had the prowess to speak with contempt about Roots the mini-series.
Tarantino has little regard to no regard for how black folks will react to his work.
His movies are clear and irrefutable evidence to his contempt for black people and black opinion.
Tarantino knew white folks will jump at the chance to see violence and brutally put upon black folks during slavery and how some black folks will jump at the chance to see a lone black man exact a little revenge.
Black folks are entertained with this shit and brush it off as being just a movie - entertainment.
How many of you same folks seeking cinema entertainment can say you saw Brokeback Mountain or Magic Mike during the opening week?
Those movies are just entertainment. Brokeback Mountain won critical acclaim.
Or is that type of shit not for you - you know - homo erotic love stories or dudes tantalizing chicks? Meanwhile, slavery based movies that feature black oppression and brutalization is just a slap happy good time.
How does a self loving and self respecting black man or black woman comfortably sit unaffected among a crowd of white folks that are laughing or snickering or being entertained as black folks are being fucked with by white folks.
That shit doesn't compute.
Lastly, Oprah helped Spike finance Malcolm X. What makes you think Spike wants to do a slavery movie.
Should he make Sandy Hook into a romantic comedy starring Brad Pitt and Renee Zellwenger, about a middle age, corky teacher that survived the shooting by offing Adam by hitting him in the back of the head with a stapler.
