Auburn has decided to relieve Gene Chizik of his head-coaching duties after a series of disappointments during the 2012 season, according to Bruce Feldman of CBS Sports.
Gene Chizik has been told that he is out at Auburn as the Tigers head coach a source just told me.
— Bruce Feldman (@BFeldmanCBS) November 25, 2012
Chizik was hired to replace Tommy Tuberville in 2009. In just his second season at the helm, he and quarterback Cam Newton led the Tigers to a 14-0 record and the university’s first national championship in 53 years.
But Chizik has made history in the wrong way this year, and the team’s 1-6 record was the worst the program had fared through seven games since 1952, as noted by ESPN.
The Tigers limped to a 3-9 record, going a pathetic 0-8 in the SEC, and the calls for Chizik's job grew louder with each passing week.

Chizik led the Tigers to an 8-5 overall record and a Chick-fil-A Bowl victory over Virginia last season, and he has built a reputation as one of the best recruiters in the country during his tenure in Auburn. From 2010 to 2012, Rivals.com never ranked his incoming classes lower than 10th in the nation.
However, Chizik was unable to get his talented team to perform on the field this year, and the likely scenario of a winless SEC campaign caused the administration to move in a different direction. If the team fails to defeat any of its next three conference opponents, it will be the first time it goes winless in an eight-game SEC schedule, according to CBS Sports’ Jerry Hinnen.
The program enjoyed a storied history and a proud tradition. While losing seasons are never ideal, this level of futility could not be tolerated in the administration’s view.
It will surely be a bumpy road forward for Auburn following the coaching change, but Chizik’s successor will not have to win many games in order to improve on this season.

If Auburn decides on Louisville head coach Charlie Strong as its next head coach, would the Tigers be able to lure him away from the Cardinals?

Could easily see this. Only question is whether or not he would wait until something more lucrative comes up.

Auburn makes its football coaches the highest-paid staff in the country Gus Malzahn the highest-paid assistant in the nation at $1.3 million annually and head coach Gene Chizik has one of the highest buyouts in the country at $10 million for the 2011 season.

Auburn's assistant coaches are set to make a combined $4,085,000 this season, according to the details of the contracts released Monday. USA Today, which compiles a comprehensive list of coaching salaries each year, said the assistant coaches' combined salaries are No. 1 nationally "by a wide margin" among public universities. USA Today said Texas looks to be second at $3.6 million. The newspaper said Alabama had the highest-paid staff last year at $3.265 million. Private schools, such as Southern California and Notre Dame, do not have to report salaries.

Dude won 3 bowl games in 4 seasons including a perfect season which led to a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. I think they should've given him one more year

Right now I have no idea. Only thing I know is that despite winning the title a few years back no one considers Auburn as one of the premier coaching positions in the country. He'll still be a hot name 3-4 years from now. If he wants to jump to the SEC right now, I wouldn't be surprised if he jumps to Arkansas since he's already in state.

With Stanford, Louisville and Texas A&M this has been a strong year for the handful of black coaches we have

You are forgetting Vanderbilt. The coach there will probably leave soon. Has them playing their best ball in the last 30 years.

say hello to the next coach to get fired at Auburn for not beating Alabama:
