Don't hate the player, hate the game. If people are stupid enough to pay him that, more power to him.

Re: Traversty: Michael Buffer get $5 mill just for saying "Lets get ready to rumble"

He trademarked the phrase so only HE can say it. With all the money in boxing why shouldn't he get his cut?

Man I keep telling people about this shit.....

Its not about what you do on the field...in the court..or announcing....

Mike Buffer makes the statement that is a part of getting everyone hyped.....it also helps to set the tone....boxers themselves get hyped....

and all that combined helps sell tickets......

that is why he makes money....

Re: Traversty: Michael Buffer get $5 mill just for saying "Lets get ready to rumble"

"Travesty." Carry on.
Huh thanks, if I can type a word without this bullshit keyboard locking up, it is a triumph..

In that sentence, I left an "s" with the word "get"...

Re: Traversty: Michael Buffer get $5 mill just for saying "Lets get ready to rumble"

Are you kidding me? This guy made posts worthy of 18th century grammar skills. He just started dumbing down his language for BGOL. A typo is just that.

Nzinga plays grammar police all the time. Just fucking around with him. Calm down.

There is an African proverb from Katanga/ Luapula that says "Bakolwe basekana ifipato pamusula"... Which means "The monkeys laugh at the red patches on each other's ass".. There is a point to make when we question the necessity or wisdom of taking issue with how we all speak a cac language, and I have been guilty too...but really, should be I accepting this, or any other criticism, from an African, Oolong tea, who like the majority of BGOL Africans, is ashamed of his Africanness, and does everything to obscure it, unless there is some good accruing to the name of Africa? No matter what my sin may be, I despise people like him more vehemently than you can ever imagine one...Please tell me whether the expression "dumbing down" is even an English one...The mark of ignorance, or limited skill, is when the recourse is a combination of two words to express a condition which is already identified and defined in an existing English word....Since I have no interest in reducing the ignorance of this fool, I am not going to tell him the word he should have used. He should go back to grade 7 and study English words like I did..

'Let's Get Ready to Rumble' Catchphrase Scores Big
abc_gma_buffer_091107_wg.jpg

In Hollywood producers cast a ring announcer in a boxing scene, they know there's only one man who can properly play the role: Michael Buffer.
Cast in more than 20 movies and television shows, from "Rocky" to "South Park" to the new movie "2012," Buffer, 65, gives the scene an authenticity viewers demand.

His booming voice, dashing good looks and natural charisma demand attention, while his catchphrase 'Let's Get Ready to Rumble,' makes him unforgettable.

Those five words -- 'Let's Get Ready to Rumble' -- have made Buffer the undisputed king of boxing ring announcers and a hugely successful entrepreneur.

By trademarking his catchphrase, Buffer has generated over $400 million in revenue, selling the rights to music, video games, merchandise and while making personal appearances. His business venture is so successful, Buffer doesn't even have to say his catchphrase to make money. He makes more from the trademark than he does announcing in the ring.

His catchphrase has brought Buffer more than just fame and fortune. It's also brought him family.

Raised by foster parents in Philadelphia, Buffer was re-united with his biological father and half-brothers in 1989 after his father saw him announcing on television. Buffer's half-brother Bruce is now his business partner and the announcer for the Ultimate Fight Championship (UFC), a mixed martial arts series.

But last year it nearly all came crashing down.

Buffer was diagnosed with throat cancer, the worst kind of disease imaginable for an announcer. His initial diagnosis required aggressive surgery and chemotherapy, which would almost certainly end his announcing career.

Buffer, however, got a reprieve. A second diagnosis called for a less invasive surgery that could potentially save his throat.

The surgery was a success, and today, Buffer is traveling the world again with his great voice and gangbuster trademark.

What does Don King always say: Only in America!!!!!

Re: Traversty: Michael Buffer get $5 mill just for saying "Lets get ready to rumble"

I bet after every time he says that phrase that he laughs like da joker b/c he know somebody just dropped that 5 milli off in his account.

Re: Traversty: Michael Buffer get $5 mill just for saying "Lets get ready to rumble"

More power to him for getting that kind of money for saying that before fights. But if I was a promoter, there's no way I would have him announcing my shit for that kind of money. 5 million is way to much for that shit. That's probably more than 95% of all fighters purses. It does get the crowd hyped a bit but at the end of the day, nobody that's buying a ticket or a pay-per view is doing it to see Buffer
