Due to uncertainty surrounding John Cena’s health situation, WWE booked Ryback in the main-event against CM Punk. And it is a match that poses an interesting challenge for WWE.
On the one hand, CM Punk is nearing a year with the WWE Championship, and it would be great from a statistical standpoint to keep the belt on Punk. Plus, with Punk expected to hold the title for a match with The Rock at Royal Rumble, WWE’s long-term plans do not account for a loss at Hell in a Cell.
At the same time, Ryback has been building momentum due to his undefeated streak, and it would be extremely anti-climactic to finish that run at this point. While ordinary matches would allow for a screwjob ending that keeps the belt on Punk without harming Ryback, the Hell in a Cell dynamic, without the DQ option, makes things different.
