Check out last nights show it was pretty good. I cant front this guys is very knowledgeable about the music industry. He touched on something a lot of people maybe thinking, and thats Chris Lighty passing away as one of the top managers in music,and less then a month later Lyor Cohen steps down as Chairman/CEO of Warner Music Group to start his own Management Agency.

He always drops some jewels on this show. Check this episode out, trust me you wont be disappointed.

I don't buy that Lyor Cohen made that move based on Chris Lighty's death, Lyor was fired. If anything, I think maybe he realized after he got the boot that he could jump in management since there IS a void there now.

management companies is were the money is now.
no one cares much about album sales anymore, so the traditional music business will continue it's decline.
it's all about selling digital singles on itunes and parlaying that into other things like touring, endorsements..etc.

you don't need a record company for any of those things.

ex) nicki minaj getting 12 million to do American idol.

I don't buy that Lyor Cohen made that move based on Chris Lighty's death, Lyor was fired. If anything, I think maybe he realized after he got the boot that he could jump in management since there IS a void there now.

Lyor Cohen wasnt fired... He stepped down because he wanted more for his worth, and the person who brought Warner Music Group couldnt see himself giving that type of money up for music.

that's what I took it as.. the 360 deal model isn't getting much love from us artists ...so Lyor did the smart thing... took his connects and power and started a management company when sales pick back up he'll have a roster and could shop himself a distribution deal... imo

Lightly's death being a conspiracy is enough of a stretch imo... Lyor waiting for lighty to 'get out of the way' is tin foil hat territory ...just imo

you do know Chris Lighty was the guy who brokered the Vitamin Water deal for 50 Cent right? He also was the person that told 50 Cent we should look for ways to get you your own head phones.

He did more than just manage him on music.
