Instead of sifting through scholarship offers, selecting a school and launching his college basketball career as he originally planned, an Ohio high school standout will have to put his dreams on hold.

Tony Farmer, an 18-year-old senior at Garfield Heights High School, received a three-year prison sentence on Tuesday as a result of pleading guilty to kidnapping, felonious assault and other crimes.

The 6-foot-7 forward had been hoping to receive probation after teachers, coaches and family members testified on his behalf.

When he learned he'd be going to prison as the judge read his sentence, he crumpled into the arms of a sheriff's deputy and collapsed to the ground in anguish.

In an odd twist, among those in the gallery sobbing in reaction to the judge's decision was the victim herself, Farmer's ex-girlfriend Andrea Lane. Even though the two remain separated since Farmer attacked Lane last April after she didn't want to reconcile their relationship, Lane had previously asked Judge Pamela Barker not to put Farmer in prison.

"I know he was a good person," she said, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "I hope he still is."

The entire courtroom scene is depressing and painfully hard to watch because Farmer had such a bright future prior to this incident. Before video cameras caught his altercation with Lane on tape last April in the lobby and parking lot of her apartment complex, Farmer was a consensus top 100 prospect who had drawn interest from the likes of Ohio State, Xavier, Dayton and Michigan State.

The punishment he received from Barker is just yet severe. Unless Barker reduces Farmer's sentence when she reviews it in 180 days, his hopes of playing major college basketball are likely now over.

Dang, that is a big young man fainting. He obviously thought that he was a bigger star that he really is. The court sees a black man doing crime and now the black man is going to do some time.

He better MAN UP before they take him to his new home for the next 3 years.
:smh:

she didn't want to get back with him so he tried to force her back
and now he's going to jail and throwing away his career for someone who didn't even want him :smh:

damn, smh this shits not funny atall. I wish him the best,Idon't know exactly what he did or what the situation for him is. But I hope he keeps his head up

Wow...don't know the story,so I don't know if the punishment fit the crime or what,but....

I wish I could get my hands around the neck of some of those who posted comments.

Points to consider:
1. he pled GUILTY
2. they had multiple unrelated eyewitnesses who called 911
3. they had the entire assault on surveillance videotape
4. he continued threatening her even after getting out on bail
5. he pled GUILTY

As Farmer's ex-girlfriend, who is also 18, left her residence off Rockside Road around 6:45 a.m., Farmer confronted her, demanding to talk.

The two began arguing and yelling when Farmer, who is 6 feet 7 and 220 pounds, then assaulted her, Russo said according to the police report. Farmer then took her cellphone, a bank card, a laptop computer and her car keys.

Bedford Heights police said nearby residents heard the fighting and arguing and called 9-1-1. Police later arrested Farmer, who had left.

He was also indicted on a kidnapping charge because, according to the report, he "by force, threat or deception, purposely removed the victim from the place where she was found or restrained her liberty for the purpose of terrorizing or inflicting serious physical harm."

Much of the incident was caught on videotape inside the apartment building. Bhasker said that at one point, outside the building, Farmer dragged Lane by her hair.

Farmer was later charged with intimidation, as well, after he sent threatening phone and text messages to Lane.

Damn... He's barely an adult. How old was he when that shit happen?.. Damn, female judges voices as stern as fuck! got dayumn this is sad. :smh:

I tell mothers all the time that you need to quit making your son's think that actions don't have consequences and that they will always get a second chance...because that judge doesn't love them and isn't going to coddle them like you do

It is a shame when the first time they don't get a pass is standing in front of a judge.

Edit::lol::lol::lol::lol:

He probably saw the camera and thought he was staring in a movie or some shit.

Wellll....sad lesson to learn the hard way. He seems quite immature, as if he didn't know what he could get. Seems like the court behaviour shows his lack of self-control. That is certainly why he is in the mess he is in. Also, he was probably acting a stone-fool when assaulting the girl.He knew better but chose to allow his emotions to control his behavior....just like in the court.:hmm::hmm:

If you think about it, nearly 90% of every shows, movies and even music paints a picture of life with out consequences for your action.. How many fun movies you seen where all they do is get high, drink fuck, car chases, busting guns and all is good at the end like nothing happened... But in reality life is far from that. Shit make one mistake and you can be doomed forever..
Two things kids like saying, 1-its not that serious, and 2- Oh shit, things just got real.. When in reality, they are clueless as to how serious life is, and shit always was real, its just they often realize it when it is far too late..

From my experience and the experience of ni99as I know, It depends on whether or not the young man was accused of a violent crime, and what positive/productive things the young man has going on in his life (is he continuing his education, etc).

Judges don't have mercy when it comes to young black men, especially those who have tattoos and beat up women. ESPECIALLY if the judge is a female cac.

DEPRESSING, THAT SENTENCING REALLY F'D HIM UP.BUT LIKE IT HAS BEEN STATED YOU DO THE CRIME YOU DO THE TIME.

Doubt it. He's a young boy, he doesn't even know what good pussy is. He was "in love" and got enflamed and acted out. That's what young people. Some act out worse than others and many of them pay a harsh price.
