Nas debuts at No. 1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with "Life Is Good," securing the veteran artist his ninth topper on the tally. The set starts with a larger-than-expected 149,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and enters the Billboard 200 at No. 1. (Last week, industry sources had projected the set to start with around 125,000.)

Nas pulls ahead into second place among rap acts with the most No. 1s in the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart's archives. He had previously been tied with 2Pac and Lil Wayne with eight each. Among all rap artists, only Jay-Z has earned more leaders, with 12.

Nas earned his previous No. 1s on the list with "It Was Written" (1996), the collaboration set "The Firm" (1997; with Foxy Brown, AZ and Nature), "I Am" (1999), "Stillmatic" (2002), "God's Son" (2003), "Hip Hop Is Dead" (2007), "Untitled" (2008) and his "Distant Relatives" collabo with Damian Marley (2010).

New York niggas holding down the top 3 spots :cool:

Though it may go unmentioned, I consider it a historic and monumental victory considering the minimal promotion, the state of the industry with everyone sounding the same and talking about the same shit as he went against the grain and put out a solid real hip hop cd. This proves that the industry execs are shoving bullshit down our throats and if true artists stay focused on the art form and produce good products the public will support the music and purchase it. I dl'd because I couldn't wait but still copped the hard copy when it dropped and ignored all requests for fuckers asking for a dub. Congrats Nas!

The Album could possibly be the best hip hop mainstream album in the last 10 years......

Oh erase that Swizz Beats trash and Ross verse and we in there :)

i been saying the same bout that swizz track but yet some ppl say thats they shit...no thx

I highly suspect NAS wrote those lines for Ross.

You can't be serious J. His verse didn't have anything to do with the topic. And he noticeably avoided the part "liars brag you put work in," unless I missed it.

Good stuff though, I contributed to that and everyone else who likes the album and buys into media should do the same.

When he said Graffiti, Marley Marl and Insha'Allah... That had me suspecting he aint write it.

We grew up doing graffiti
Now hollowsheads getting heated
Seated in foreign cars, constantly getting weeded
Proceeded to count profits
I know they got on binoculars
But fuck em all, we ballin' til they come lock us up
Twenty to life; I'm clubbin', blowin' twenty tonight
We the mob, Boby Marley Marlin' all through the night
Addicted to wealth, never cold turkey to war
Snatch a tec off the shelf, live forever; that's Insh'Allah
Memoirs of a rich nigga;
Sweat suits, gold chains, old drug dealers
New Benz, chrome rims are for show, killer
You niggas accidental, choppers in back of the limo
Pay your tithes, stay alive, can't be dodging my clique
Cut a check; I use your bitch for some bargaining chips
In a hole, sell your home, nigga don't sell your soul
This forty-five in control
God forgives and I don't

Interesting. But I believe it's research as usual with Ross. Snares point to Shan and Marley. Who knows though?

Not sure if you are serious but yes of-course its my opinion. But Id like to make the argument that if you looking for a complete Hip Hop CD this is the best one in years!

Lyrical songs, meaningful songs, introspective and hits every topic you can name. The last ten years most mainstream hip hop cds are flat. (Drugs, Money, Bitches) I tell anybody if you want to hear hip hop growing up this is the CD.

Ak never thought about Ross verse being written by Nas. I just know if had nothing to do with the topic and sounded out of place.

Havent talked to many but that Swizz song is the only joint I hit fwd with the quickness.

Man i read that as Billboard #1, if he didnt get the hip hop one then that would be a fail.

Do you know how many classics dropped in the last 10 years? This album is nowhere near a classic..it was average at best to me..I dare you to put this shit against the Black Album or hell even American Gangster..

I don't really see it either.

And good. But I can play through that cut. Swizz is definitely plugging on this one: "Ciroc on splash." That's the most replaceable track. It makes an impression and actually accents a rather darker album, but :cmonson:

No please tell me how many classic hip hop albums have dropped in the last 10 years....

American Gangster was a classic????

Black Album was nice but again when you listen to the range on Nas CD you do not find that in hip hop. The Black Album included.

Everybody entitled but fuck that this Nas joint can be a classic. Its been out a week and you already say its nowhere near classic?

I have not seen one person say anything less then this is one of Nas best works. (Unless they are someone with boogers in there nose listening to Chief Keef )

I guarantee you're in the minority.

A lot of people who talk this sell shit, whine about what Wayne and Drake sell and talk this hip hop is dying bullshit don't even support shit. Fifteen dollars is too much to spend.

How many people in this thread actually BOUGHT this album :hmm:

I got from here first but there are a couple of artist I think of worthy of support. :D

Sent this pic out to a couple of my people who when we find something worthy of support must verify with a pic. (My NY and VI fam) :)

Nas really rep'd for all the 90's niggas :D

That's all i'v listened to in the ride for the last week (except when my 3 year old daughter is with me)

My wife even likes a lot of the songs & she doesn't listen to a lot of rap.

I bought it, and it goes hard, and I would say its far from mainstream, it's gotten about 1% promotion. Nas rapped on numerous subjects, some of which the current hip-hoppers would not identify with. It reminds me of that one Marvin Gaye record he made after his divorce......huh can't think of the name off hand and too lazy to look it up. You could hear the emotion, you can hear the reflection, this was not rushed he put time into this. And let's be honest until American gangsta you all were about to run jay-z out of hip hop, and to be even more honest watch the throne had a feeling reminiscent of kingdom come flow, like that nigga came in the studio at the last minute threw together some shit and dared people to criticize it

I bought deluxe album at target, along with the Disney's Let it Shine soundtrack for my daughter :) dude from everybody hates chris got a decent lil flow.

Glad to support some brothers trying to make real music & talk about something in their songs

Good to see some brothers in hear actually supporting this. (RESPECT) I agree Sherm. You can tell he had alot of time dolo thinking about everything he was going through. The whole CD is introspective and gave me a new respect for Nas, once again.

I guess my whole think is Ive grown way past brothers telling me that they pee out what I make in a year every night lol. I want to hear ish I can relate to, and real ish that they go through not just the glamor and glitz. Now some of that is cool but whole CD's is way too much.

Smh @ people still supporting this coon

he used to be my fave rapper, I bought all his albums from the actual store but I am so over this guy ... he's changed :smh:
