With the iPad/iOS devices, according to Android fanatics, it is.
Now with Nexus, it's no longer an issue
It's all good: No expandable (SD slot), no HDMI out...It's all good!!! Nexus 7 is the best tablet,light years ahead of the iPad
Didn't they (Android fanatics) ether the hell out of iPad and iPhone for lacking these same features

To be honest I don't think Google was going up against the iPad with this product. I think they have the Kindle Fire in the crosshairs with this product.

They swore up and down that not having HDMI or other I/O slots on tablets/phones was a HUGE failure for Apple.
That's all I'm saying...

16 gig nexus 7 $250
no expandable memory is a deal breaker for me, ipad or nexus

We understand where you're coming from. The price point is a major factor. If you're dropping $600 for a product you want all the bells and whistles. If Nexus was missing expandable memory and no HDMI and was at a price of $600 people would be up in arms as well.
I might not expect cruise control in an entry level Chevy but I damn sure better have it in a BMW 750i.

Stop comparing the specs of a $200 7 inch tablet to the specs of a $600 10 inch tablet. There is no comparison.
but you know jailbreak and root access are not the same thing and in fact have very different purposes. Most iphone users jailbreak to make basic changes to the IOS operating system. While most android users, root to change the operating system. The average user of both platforms likely will never jailbreak or root, and will be mostly satisfied with their device right out of the box.
$500 - $600 pricepoint for a tablet is not needed either...

Yea I see them as luxuries as well. More so the HDMI. I have never wanted to plug-in my tablet.. but have used the Airplay on several occasions.. so I can see that 'need' if Airplay wasn't available.
Extra storage is one of those things the more you have the more you use. Most people can get by with 16GB, they'd just have to delete crap they aren't using when they near their limits... but if they have 32GB or 64GB..they'd just fill it up with more crap on top of they older crap.
Yes they are the same thing.. gives you 'root' access to your OS. Just used differently depending on the platform.

It is an issue, android fans aren't happy with it, Google never represented the things you're describing. Manufacturers did. Asus made this for Google. And most of the hype is for Jelly Bean. If they had an option with HDMI, SD and that other crap.. It would outsell this one.

I swear ya'll must be against streaming. I have a Galaxy Nexus and I still have 8GB free. Max Payne, NBA Jam, Grand Theft Auto and some productivity aps. All my music is on GoogleMusic, so I still have access to my 45GB of music at home.

The bottom line is, this is the first major 200 pure Android tablet with specs of some higher priced ones. Streaming is big on Android, thats what you Apple fans don't get. It coincides with the Nexus series being sans a SD slot, Google wants its users to stream, which is what I do and still have half my room left on my phone.

How much is it to add those features? Can't be more than 10 dollars on the cost side.
The fact is, it's used as a point of debate as to why apple is fucked up - because you can't expand the memory. Also the flash issue.
Now google follows suit, so that point is taken away.
It's simple though - buy what you want. And that's it.
Shit I may get the nexus simply because it'll be updated and it's cheap. Got a 10" iPad and then a 7" nexus. Super portable.
if i were buying a tab right now, i'd take this over the ipad based on value.

I can point to many a threads where BGOL android fanatics made not having these I/O ports on Apple devices a huge fucking issue
I do not see similar outcry now when Google releases it's first tablet
