Any term used to belittle a person solely on their ethnic background is ignorant. But the world is filled with ignorant people. Which makes the use of it appear to be acceptable. People can argue there is no historical aspect to it. Which doesn't change the intent of it when used. To me is all part of the cycle of stupidity that empowers certain types in all ethnic groups.
I do not find CAC offensive and I am white. My GF finds it offensive though.
I think White Trash and Redneck are more offensive. White trash is pretty obvious and the other implies stupidity by inbreeding.
I can respect that... I find your political views (birther) and stance on the Trayvon Martin case highly infuriating (and very CAC-tastic). But I appreciate the insight.
Fair argument. However it's worth noting that as far as I'm concerned the phrase CAC is descriptive of more than "ethnicity". It really speaks to an entire mindset. There are plenty of white folks who aren't "CAC's" imo.
And I think it's silly to dismiss the lack of historicity as though it's irrelevant. Let's be honest... you'll have to do a lot of emotional and intellectual acrobatics to assert that there's some kind of equivalence between "CAC", "Nig.g.er", "Spic" and "Chink".
We should keep this conversation grounded in reality.

CAC has been around for years. It was the favorite epithet of a great uncle that I've never met and he died in '72. How do I know? I transferred the old 8mm film of him to DVD saying it. It must be a southern thing.

The term cracker, never made much sense to me other than to liken the white person to that of a saltine "cracker". There's the memory of oppression and pain that comes along with the word "n-word". But to liken the white man to that of a saltine wields no power, given that there is no memory of oppression that comes along with it in the white experience . . .other than white guilt.
But then not to long ago, I heard a piece of historical info that the term "cracker" refers to "massa" aka the whip "cracker", a term coming from the slavery experience.
So, to continue the use of of the term cracker STILL promotes the position of the white man as dominant while we remain in a state of victimhood. And the little power that is does wield only goes back to invoking?. . . . white guilt.
But let's just be real brothers. I men, let's just really be real about this WHOLE SHIT! Come on man, yall know what this is about.

No the contrary, the racial slurs they have for us despite their socioeconomic and political status relative to us show forth the void they have in themselves and their true powerlessness. For how can one who supposedly have so much project such hate on those whom they have historically harmed and degraded unless that degradation they first feel in themselves. Black people project love, we can be terrible but we mostly spread love. It's why we have not effectively created any hate word for any group that has stuck. That's a good thing.

It is offensive and shouldn't be tolerated especially by people of color. Since we should be more sympathetic in the use of language to dehumanize another person. It doesn't matter if one word carries more weight because of the historical usage. It should never be acceptable.

It isn't silly to dismiss it. In this context it doesn't matter. People's lexicon grow everyday. Just because a new word or a new definition arises doesn't change its current impact. Words are that they are. If a new term is created tomorrow for the love of your life. Should your wife dismiss it cause it is a new term? Or should she embrace it based on the intent when you use it towards her? You are entitled to view it as you wish. I'm not knocking you. I am just explaining how I see it. Which of course is my reality. And how cac is defined to you is yours.

I can only speak for myself and partially for the collective, the n word hurts us because it was the last word sometimes our ancestor heard before being strung up on a tree, or dragged behind a truck. This isn't a matter of sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt. Their words went beyond mere name calling and lives were taken. Black people have not such words for whites, where the mention of it conjures in the minds of white people a time of psychosis in black people where we wholesale murdered white people and brought our children along for the experience too.
I'm actually not hurt by the word in some respects, it means nothing, it says more about them than it says about us.
The real word to call whites, because it speaks to their nature and not just a slight about skin color is what someone mentioned earlier in this post. Goyim and that is historical. White people are godless. Even the Messiah called a Scythian woman, dogs because that's what they became known has in the world and scythians are what we know today has Russians and people's from that region. Dogs because they left off being human along time ago and rejected the human spirit.
A dog in biblical terms is lowest of the low. However name calling, or seeking to make a person base is not something we should practice.
