~--~Official 2012 NBA Draft/Offseason Thread~--~

JR and the MLE are unrelated the knicks can only offer the tax payer MLE of 3 Million without going over into the hardcap. If JR opts out and then agree's to raise aspect of his contract he will earn 2.9. So the most he can get from the Knicks is about 3 from the knicks in any scenario and that can happen without the use the 3 Million MLE.

A lot of people connected with the organization thinks he will stay due to loving living in NY and playing for the Knicks after years in Denver and China.

He's from Jersey too right? Yeah, he'll stay.

Because Camby is not leaving Houston.

exactly

The Rockets plan to re-sign unrestricted free agent Marcus Camby, league sources tell Fox 26 Houston.
Samuel Dalembert's name has been swirling in some trade rumors, and it wouldn't be surprising to see Houston make an effort to retain the veteran. After being obtained at the trade deadline, Camby made his presence felt for the Rockets and worked his way into a starting role. In 19 regular season games with the Rockets, Camby averaged 7.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 24 minutes per game. Jun. 22 - 9:21 am et

Luol Deng not dismissing rumors

HOUSTON -- Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng revealed this weekend that he will not be surprised if the Bulls trade him this offseason.

While at training camp in Texas with Great Britain's national team preparing for the London Olympics, Deng said he does not believe the Bulls are shopping him in retaliation for his decision to delay the wrist surgery he needs until after the Games.

But Deng, 27, did acknowledge that he's not dismissing recent reports suggesting the Bulls are willing to trade him for a top pick in Thursday's NBA draft, with speculation mounting that Chicago could send Deng to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for the No. 7 overall pick.

Former NBA guard Speedy Claxton, now a scout for the Warriors, was in attendance for Britain's practice at the Toyota Center Sunday afternoon.

"I believe there is always to some extent truth behind rumors," Deng said. "But as an athlete, if you get caught up in them, you are really wasting your time because it's not something you can control.

"If it's not true, a GM could always come out and say it's not true. But if a GM doesn't come out and say it, there are probably talks. And there should be. If I was a GM I would be shopping players around too. I've got to show that I'm doing something.

"A lot of GMs don't just sit there, they're trying their options. Me, I always say there are two things when trades happen -- if I was to be let go by a team and nobody picks me up, that's probably the worst thing. But whenever you hear your name in a trade, that means there is somebody at the other end who wants you.

"As much as I want to stay on the team -- I love Chicago, I love the Bulls -- at the same time, I know the business part of it. Sooner or later, all the rumors are going to come up."

The apparent unease between the team and Deng stems from the end of the Bulls' season when, following their first round playoff exit to the Philadelphia 76ers, Deng insisted he would not alter his long-held plans to represent Britain, the country that granted his family political asylum from the Sudan, in the Olympics.

Deng, who was raised from the age of 10 in London, had been carrying a wrist ligament injury for much of the season, yet still led the league in minutes with 39.4 per game.

However, Bulls management told Deng they would have preferred him to miss the Olympics, the first in which Britain will enter a basketball team since 1948, in order to undergo surgery which would ensure his health for the start of the 2012-13 NBA season.

In a tense exit interview before Deng left Chicago, he told Bulls management that he would not entertain the prospect of missing out on the Games and presented an argument that he might not, in any case, require surgery before the start of the season.

Conspiracy theorists will point to the trade rumors as being a direct consequence of those talks, although Deng does not share the view that the Bulls have acted in response to his stance.

"I don't think so," Deng said. "Me and (coach Tom Thibodeau) have a very close relationship. I spoke to (GM) Gar (Forman), I spoke to (VP of basketball operations John) Paxson and it's one of those things you don't want to bring up.

"He's doing his job. As much as I'm playing basketball, working out, I'm doing my job. You just let it be. If it's going on, it's going on. At the end of the day there are no hard feelings and I'm not a 21-year-old kid who will get upset by it. I understand the game.

"I wouldn't want me to play (in the Olympics) either. Pax is an athlete and, as an athlete who used to play, Pax understands me wanting to play. But as a GM that's his job to try and get the team healthy and get the team ready for next year. I understand both sides to it.

"But it comes down to an injury that happened at the wrong time. I just try to let people know I'm going to be OK

Good find Mask.

Deng is approaching this right. This is a business and knowing the Bulls owners history he isn't going to pay the luxury tax

A league full of owners that don't want to pay the luxury tax.

Yep the Heat will own the league so long as the big 3 stay healthy.

This new CBA.......:smh:

Deng to Golden state huh?.... makes sense for Chicago since they feel like they need money to keep key roleplayers. My question is wtf is the GSW building out there.

Curry
Thompson
Deng
Lee
Bogut

RJ
Biedrins
Rush

the best players are all injured

Whatever happen to the rumors of Greg Oden wanting to go to Miami Heat. I know a lot of people will laugh at that. But word is he got that kobe knee procedure. Everyone ive seen that got it came back pretty good. With all the money he raped from the Blazers, he can take a cut if he really wants to prove himself. He can easily be that 9 point 9 rebound big man miami needs.

Oden probably is taking 2012-2013 off to rehab. It's a possibility after next year.

Trading Deng is the right call, IMO. Why pay the tax with Rose gone most of the year? Better to retool, save a few bucks and get some youth into the pipeline. Watson, Korver and Brewer are on their way out the door too. You heard it here first. Bulls are going to rack up on draft picksto build a new bench.

Other than Kobe who else have you seen that has gotten that procedure done?

This new CBA.......:smh:

Owners are willing to pay the luxury tax but they don't want to become regular luxury tax offenders because then the penalty becomes really severe.

thought Mickey said he don't plan on paying the tax, which affects the Big 3

Mickey said he doesn't feel comfortable paying the tax for a team that isn't a championship team. That is no longer the case. Plus add in that they are currently negotiating a new tv deal worth 100 million last week but I read the price will be going up with the Heat recent success

there is a 3 year limit out of 5 then a severe penalty every year after that until the team goes under the luxury tax again. In a slick way this was put into the CBA to lead teams to trend towards giving shorter contracts.

The only reason the knicks are willing to go over now is because their 3 largest contracts come off the books in 3 years so they are almost guaranteed to be under it one way or another. However I think this rule is the exact reason the Thunder will trade Harden 9 times out of 10. There core players are very likely going to warrant a re-up of Max Contracts that will force them to drop salaries every few years to avoid the severe luxury tax.

well said CB

And then repeat tax penalty is being done because again the owners are stupid. The perfect example of that fact is the Washington Wizards. After their trade this past week that brought in Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza it looks like they will be over the luxury tax line after next season possibly even if they amnesty Andray Blatche to try to avoid it.

The idea behind this though will start to take affect this off season and come more into play as the contracts on the books fade out. A lot of guys who would of made 5-7 million are going to only be offered 3-4. Its going to lower the middle class salary. Max Players will still get Max but everybody else is going to get half. Also don't expect a lot of teams to sign qualifying offers. I think there is going to be a lot of FA movement since everyone is going to reevaluate the salaries they offer.

i doubt it. You'd be surprised at how many teams are building their teams just to compete with the Heat. I actually think because of how the Heat are built...it wil actually encourage team owners to spend more in order to compete and get on the Miami Heat level as far as popularity, wins, extra revenue etc.

WoW!
This is news to me.

I really havent been paying attention to the rumor mill lately. I got love for Lou Deng....but based off how tom Tibby is...imho Lou probably wil never be able to develop (if he can) into a better offensive player under this system. He spends entirely too much energy on defense. Considering the fact that D Rose is only 23 and in Chicago for the next 4-5 years....it would be wise to start developing some young talent. I hope we got good draft scouts..dont know if we got the same bums from the past. If we do have the same bums....then this trade...if it happens.... wil be bs!

BTW....I hope I hear something about Boozer being traded instead of Noah before next year trade deadline.

Don't bet on that

Also Stephen A Smith is reporting Dwight is on that bullshit again. I am staying away this time

In an interview on ESPN Sunday, Stephen A. Smith takes a swipe at Marc Stein's report on Deron Williams limiting his decision to the Nets and Mavs ("First of all, I didn't think that was news. We've always known that"), then launches into a rant on why the Nets have the "edge" over Dallas in the D-Will Sweepstakes.

The Lakers weren't on that list because they would have to make a trade and the New Jersey Nets, now the Brooklyn Nets, are not willing to make that trade. You have to give the Nets the edge from this perspective: They've got cap room, they've got some young bodies as well and they still have a legitimate shot at getting Dwight Howard. Granted, the Orlando Magic own Dwight Howard's rights for the time being because he opted into his contract. This summer, he opted into his contract before the trading deadline because he was scared they were going to trade him to L.A. but Dwight Howard wants to be in Brooklyn. That's where he wants to come. He doesn't want to be anywhere else. He doesn't want to play for the Lakers. He doesn't to play for Chicago or anybody else. He wants to be in Brooklyn and as long as Dwight Howard makes sure, insists to everyone that matters, ultimately it's something that can be facilitated, get the job done.

He concludes by noting, "If you have Deron WIlliams and you have Dwight Howard, suddenly the East looks incredibly more interesting because Deron Williams is a baller!" He also says that (unlike Howard?) Williams will be a "man's man" when it becomes time to announce his decision.

What the Wizards examples proves is that even with this change which you are right about it will still be about having a good front office. If you do trades trades like the one by the Wizards won't happen because extra cap space gives a team to get a player for the cheap especially right now via the amnesty rule. Boozer, for example, is overpaid at 15 million but if a team could have his same stats but for a price tag of 7 or 8 million they would be ecstatic.

The Bulls have done a good job with the draft. They haven't gotten superstars but they have gotten solid players who can contribute. As someone noted their picks recently have been experienced college players like Taj and Jimmy Butler and talented foreigners with contracts that don't allow them to come over initially like Asik and Mirotic. They haven't drafted a "upside" player which probably means that if they do acquire a lottery pick a guy like Andre Drummond isn't as likely to be the pick.

It's clear to me that this CBA wasn't meant to help small market teams. OKC being the example.
This is why the Bulls should blow it up and I feel they will blow it up (for the most part). I can see Taj and maybe Asik being the only ones remaining with Rose. People can say what they want, kats up in here didn't even see this Bulls roster to be in the the top 3 of the east.

yea Micky probably going into that tv deal ready to bend muhfuggas over the couch

As for Deng I am glad that he doesnt buy into no loyalty shit like so many other naive fucks.

On the other hand lots of people were saying that Deng was the Lebron stopper so to see them so ready to trade him puzzles me

Lmao

Micky going to have Fox Sports footing that luxury tax tab

.....I have a theory but I'd rather just going to say I don't know. But it's damn sure not helping OKC.

What I got from it is that the harsh penalty for continously going over the cap would keep the deep pocket large market teams from spending and you see teams like the Mavs and Lakers all of a sudden trying to save money

You have teams like the Knicks who could give a fuck about a salary cap and will continue to not have a fuck to give, then the Nets have a new billionaire owner and new arena so they dont give a damn about the tax either

No its not helping OKC even though they built the team damn near entirely through the draft but I see it working to a certain extent but ultimately its not going to help any of the other small market teams who were sucking before this new CBA get over the top

OKC doesn't need to max out Harden anyway

You have to have a superstar/s to win in the NBA and even there just aint enough to go around and the ones that are in the league are not going to play for the Raptors, Bucks, Bobcats, Kings, Jazz, etc no matter what

Even if they draft them they are leaving first chance they get

All the CBA did is force the owners to spend a little less money but the NBA has and always will be the haves and have nots and no CBA can change that

Hard to stop someone you really don't plan on seeing next year. Without Rose, I'm not sure if the current Bulls team will get far. It's pretty much a given that Heat and Thunder will have the top seeds, so even if Bulls do somehow make it in with a low-seed, I doubt they'll do much of anything. So they're seeking value now while they still can.

Luxury tax the Bulls owner has never paid it. NEVER!! Not even with Jordan and them he never went over the cap. This is the new CBA and the effects of it. Deng has to go.

Also the Bulls tried to get Dwight Howard last week.

There is more to the Bulls trying to move Deng and Noah than the public knows. Bulls GM Gar Forman was prepared to make an offer for Dwight Howard (who has yet return to Orlando since having back surgery) but Howard's camp made it known again he wants no part of Chicago. Rumor is Dwight has eyes on the Brooklyn Nets. Then again Dwight has already proven to be unpredictable. The Bulls could risk trading for Dwight but there is the possibility is Dwight could walk next summer.

:smh::smh::smh:

Dwight Howard is a clown

Bulls are actually the best fit for him but he wants to play for a team who has never won shit and aint about to be shit(sorry Killa)

Lots of people, huh? lol

Nah, I said we need him to defend Lebron and it was taken out of context. He ain't "the Lebron stopper", but he defends Lebron well.

Deng's a great defender, but it's come to the point where he uses all this energy on D, that it causes his offense to suffer. His defense is appreciated, but we need a 2nd scorer more. We need an offensive talent with decent D because Thibbs can probably make a decent defender into a good one with his system.

We already gotta get rid of one of either Deng, Noah, or Booz just to stay out of the tax, and we can't seem to get rid of Boozer via trade so Deng is next on the list.
