Paul Weyrich, one of the founders of ALEC and a leading figure in the conservative movement, explains the rationale for vote suppression. I find this interesting because... as with most conservative talking points... the reality diverges sharply from the rhetoric.
We're meant to believe that conservatives are genuinely concerned about the integrity of the voting process but all this hand-wringing about voter fraud (which incidentally is almost negligible as a real systemic problem in American politics) illustrates how disingenuous the GOP really is.
ALEC, fyi, is also behind all kinds of legislative fuckery including a concerted effort to disenfranchise voters who are already on the margins.
