Mosley Says His Ankle Problem is a Thing of The Past

In Mexico City, former three division world champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley pealed down a sock to reveal an eight-inch scar running along his Achilles tendon on his left ankle.

Four months prior to last May's fight with Manny Pacquiao, he ruptured it while playing basketball, and underwent an operation. In the recovery process, he wasn’t able to do any running, until a month before the opening bell.

No such problems this time. Economically clipped with words, Shane who insists he’s already in great shape, says he’ll be training in Big Bear, which is also where WBC junior middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez is bound for. The place is big enough for the two of them.

Mosley, who’s 40-years-old, and Saul who’s a stripling at just 21, will collide for Canelo’s title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight will be the co-feature to the WBA super welterweight title fight between Miguel Cotto and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

“I’m going to use all of my experience, and I’m still youthful myself. I’ve also got a lot of energy and stuff like that," Mosley said.

Canelo acknowledged that this is his greatest challenge to date and a potentially dangerous fight for him. He said it’s the fulfillment of a dream to fight a legend like Sugar Shane, and he wouldn’t predict a knockout.

Mosley: You Will See the Man Who Knocked Margarito Out!

Shane Mosley (46-7-1, 39KOs) is not offended by those who believe that he has no chance to defeat Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (39-0-1, 29KOs), on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Mosley promised to arrive as the same man who knocked out Antonio Margarito in 2009, and not the boxer who lost lopsided decisions to Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

"They are going to see the Mosley who defeated Margarito, not the one who lost to Pacquiao or Mayweather, who are also the best in the world. I am very excited about this match. I want to be world champion and I will accomplish this. Age does not matter if you prepare well," Mosley said.

Canelo expects a tough fight from his 40-year-old opponent.

"I know that my opponent is dangerous, but I will not fail. I will show everyone that Canelo will be a champion for a while," said Canelo.

Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya sees big things for the winner.

"I think a plus for this fight is that the winner of Canelo and Mosley could end up facing the winner of Mayweather and Cotto. We are starting this mini-tournament at 154 pounds and it's very interesting," stated De La Hoya.

Winner of Mayweather-Cotto meets winner of Alvarez-Mosley? Okay.

Don't see how Shane gets a title shot of any kind but if he can pull it off, he will have definitely earned a rematch with Mayweather or Cotto.

Against canelo i will not count shane out, this kid has never face a fighter of this level, if shane is really motivated to win this fight canelo may have his hands full.
We know his younger but he still very green, i think this one is gonna be the fight of the night.

True. He's been fighting at 147 for the most part the last few years.

It's harder to move back and forth between weight divisions as you get older. B-Hop moved up to light heavyweight and stayed there. Shane looked good in his fight with Cotto but he should have stayed at 154 although the only way to get those big money fights was to come back down.

If he had Williams or Sergio would have come up off his name.

Canelo's Manager Eyes September Return After Mosley

Edison Reynoso, the manager of WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (39-0-1, 29KOs), wants his boxer to stay busy. Canelo defends his title against former champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Floyd Mayweather Jr. faces Miguel Cotto in main event. If all goes well in May, Reynoso wants Canelo to return in the month of September.

Canelo's manager would like to secure the Mayweather-Cotto winner for September. If not, they will target Vanes Martirosyan or James Kirkland, who are the highest ranked contenders under the WBC.

"It all depends on how things go. We want Canelo to fight in September in Mexico and then return to the United States, or we can fight in September in the United States. If the fight against Mayweather or Cotto is not provided, then we'll look to Vanes Martirosyan [or] James Kirkland," Reynoso said.

Canelo's head still looks to big for his body:lol:

I think it ends with Shane being battered against the ropes.

Hopefully he will then retire...but I doubt it.
