How much do you rely on MSM for accurate information on domestic and international news?

?

Depends on what you call "mainstream". I long learned to check multiple sources and once a source has been shown to be unreliable, I'm done with them.

^this

the reality...

the internet is FASTER but we all SHOULD know that generally it is mostly inaccurate and rarely corrected in a timely fashion...

AT LEAST mainstream media has a semblance of journalistic integrity in so much as they have to have sources and corroboration before they air like the few remaining legitimate newspapers...

But the combination of strong media history and integrity and genuine journalism along with a reliable online presence can be almost 90% accurate...

think about it...

predicted the Peyton Manning situation EXACTLY in a tweet months ago...

I don't. I've seen how it operates on a local scale and can only imagine how much more poorly national news spreads unintentional misinformation or intentional exaggerations.

I know some cats love anonymous bloggers and random YouTube people but when they're wrong, they just disappear and no one can remember where they got their fucked up information. At least with known media outlets, they have something to lose when they get shit wrong (Fox News doesn't count because they aren't a news channel).

But is your info supplemented by reading books?

I know this is a slippery slope asking about reading on BGOL

some of those who falling for the kony shit are in here @ 25%

mixed the fuck up

doesn't take a genius to know not to trust the media

racism would have been over if it wasn't for the media

the media is used in so many ways to dictate a lot.

.....radio and tv are the sheep herders to keep order or cause panic

who the fuck doesn't know this by ......now proudly say I.

Don't books count as a source? They're the oldest form of written media.

Books are not the oldest form of media by the way but I get your point.

The problem is not books, the problem is getting people to read more books.

the media, the fourth estate is OBVIOUSLY a degraded shell of itself..

they have lost their way and the public has suffered greatly because of it..

they USE reality TV, the internet and social media as an EXCUSE for ignoring the integrity that journalism ONCE had...

look at this clip...

if you read the ENTIRE transcript you see that Iverson was making a MUCH BIGGER POINT

Iverson is actually complaining about Coach Brown going PUBLIC with his missing practice and he actually says practice is IMPORTANT...

and he even says something that Jordan has been CRITICIZED for by Phil Jackson himself ...

Iverson mentions that practicing with his teammates will make them a better team but wont make them better individually (I disagree myself) but Jordan was famous for using practice to totally DEMORALIZE his teammates and this effected play on the court...

they need to understand how to play with him OUT OF THE LINE UP too...

he mentions that HIS game is not effected if his teammates are unavailable and wouldn't use it as an excuse...

forget if you agree or not...he has been MISREPRESENTED...

But the MEDIA decided to take a soundbite and run with it..

lets not forget digitally removing Iverson's tattoos and darkening OJ's skin

"Practice" Press Conference

Reporter: Could you be clear about your practicing habits since we can't see you practice?

AI: Anybody tell you that I missed practice... If, If, if a Coach say I missed practice, and y'all hear it, then that's that.

I mean, I might have missed one practice this year but if, if somebody say he doesn't come to practice, it could be one practice. Out of all the practices this year, that's enough... that's enough to get a whole lot started. I told Coach Brown that you don't have to give the people of Philadelphia a reason to think about trading me or anything like that. If you trade somebody, you trade them to make the team better...simple as that. I'm cool with that. I'm all about that. The people in Philadelphia deserve to have a winner. It's simple as that. It goes further than that ...

Reporter: So you and coach Brown got caught up on Saturday about practice?

AI: If I can't practice, I can't practice man. If I'm hurt, I'm hurt. I mean ... simple as that. It aint about that... I mean its... Its not about that... At all. You know what I'm saying I mean...

But its...its easy ... to, to talk about... It's easy to sum it up when you're just talking about practice. We're sitting in here, and I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we in here talking about practice. I mean, listen, we're talking about practice, not a game, not a game, not a game, we talking about practice. Not a game. Not, not ... Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game like it's my last. Not the game, but we're talking about practice, man. I mean, how silly is that? ...

And we talking about practice.
I know I supposed to be there. I know I'm supposed to lead by example... I know that... And i'm not.. I'm not shoving it aside, you know, like it don't mean anything. I know it's important, I do. I honestly do...

But we're talking about practice man. What are we talking about? Practice? We're talking about practice, man. (laughter from the media crowd) We're talking about practice. We're talking about practice. We aint talking about the game.(more laughter) We're talking about practice, man.
When you come to the arena, and you see me play, you see me play don't you? You've seen me give everything I've got, right?
But we're talking about practice right now. We talking about pr... (Interrupted)

Reporter: But it's an issue that your coach continues to raise?

AI: Man look, I hear you... it's funny to me too, I mean it's strange... it's strange to me too, but we're talking about practice man, we're not even talking about the game... the actual game, when it matters... We're talking about practice ...

Reporter: Is it possible that if you practiced, you would make your teammates better?

AI: How the hell can I make my teammates better by practicing?

There was written media before books? Not just paper, cover, spine modern books, mind you.

Yeah, pottery, rocks and any other thing that could have been inscribed as seen with Egyptian hieroglyphics, cuneiform etc....

I've always seen those as the ancient version of books since the modern form hadn't been invented yet. Those were books just like your tablet where you turn a page by scrolling your finger across a screen.

less than 25....what got me was 9/11 and none of the major news organizations questioned the official government explaination. And their frequent stories about entertainment, is a farce. All major news outlets are owned by Big corporations, who want to distract the masses and deflect attention away from their fuckery. I get all my news from BGOL now lol.

EVERYBODY says they distrust mainstream media when they're asked. But somehow most people end up repeating their programming just the same.

The word written and book are two separate things even though you seek to try to rationalize them as being connected.

Books doesn't imply symbols but rather "words" as we know them hence your analogy of swiping a screen.

African writing systems were much more complex than "books" and had many more functions than "books" as we know them.

Pottery with symbols had certain purposes etc...
It wasn't something you read, memorize and put away.

Tell me what you think about this:

"Symbolism is technique; the symbolic is the form of writing of a vital philosophy."54

"The symbol is a sign that one must learn to read, and the symbolic is a form of writing whose laws one must know; they have nothing in common with the grammatical construction of our languages. It is a question here, not of what might be called "hieroglyphic language," but of the symbolic, which is not an ordinary form of writing."

De Lubicz is concerned with describing "the principles that govern the symbol and the symbolic in the expression of a vital philosophy, not a rationalistic philosophy." He says that there "exists no hieroglyphic language, but only a hieroglyphic writing, which uses the symbol to lead us toward the symbolic."55

The significance of these passages is that it affirms my belief that the MDW NTR of Kemet does not represent a "primitive" form of secular or profane script and is not therefore "pre-European."

Rather, it represents a quite different view of reality—a mindset that sought to understand the universe as cosmos, therefore careful not to attempt the separation of spirit and matter.
So that when we speak of the literate mode as championed by Plato, we mean to stress a unique definition and use of that mode: one devoid of the "symbolic" in De Lubicz' sense.

This writing lacked something. It was only able to deal with "one-dimensional realities," and as Diamond says,

  • It reduced the complexities of experience to the written word…with the advent of writing symbols became explicit; they lost a certain richness. Man's word was no longer endless exploration of reality, but a sign that could be used against him…writing splits consciousness in two ways—it becomes more authoritative than talking thus degrading the meaning of speech and eroding oral tradition; and it makes it possible to use works for the political manipulation and control of others.56
It was not that this literal mode represented or led to higher truths, but that the claim was made that it did and that it gave the illusion of having done so, making this medium useful. It worked! It helped to control minds, values, and behavior, just as any media does, but in a new and for some a "desirable" way. The written language was more impressive than speech. Platonic epistemology achieved this once it was valued.
Then speech came to imitate this writing, which was no longer "magical," sacred, and truly symbolic. The permanence of the written word gave it ideological strength. The permanence of the written word gave it ideological strength.
Written dialogues, written laws, and strangely enough, written prayers—the sacred reduced to profane "scriptures"; all of this became evidence, for the European, of the superiority of his/her culture.

My biggest gripe with MSM & national news is how & why they all cover just about the same stories. Its like mandate or some shit.

I'll say around 50%. They regularly report important stories. And then after that it gets spun into Mike Tysons Bolivian by experts, pundits, talking heads, etc.
