So I installed and ran it, and let me say, this is going to turn out for MS like Vista! MS has a history of coming out with utter shit for one release cycle, before getting it right the next. The utter shit history is proof. Win95, shit, Windows98, WindowsME, shit, Windows XP, Windows Vista, shit, Windows 7 (probably the best version of Windows next to XP), and now Windows 8, shit.. Don't start with the NT product line, lol.. So anyway, installed this bitch and ran with it. First, don't be fooled, these shit's are trying to push Metro like Apple is iOS, but Metro is crap, compared to iOS, and I hate apple. MS stated you can turn off metro, but that isn't totally true, as it's a huge part of how things work on the OS itself. They want this to be for tablets/touchscreens, but I see that going no where as the "main to go option" for most people, or companies. That is still way off before tablets take over a general pc. The learning curve is there, as things aren't like most are use to on regular windows, and some of the features are just plain stupid. I won't go into detail, you just need to try it to see for yourself. Some apps that they said should work with Windows 8, even on the preview, don't. IE is still garbage, and metro looks like some 8 year old's drawing. Moving to "windows with no metro", doesn't really work, because again they made they system to USE metro as your all be page starts, and once you get use to it, it's easy to navigate, but again, looks like shit. Using a mouse with this looks dumb too, again you have to see it and play with it to understand what I mean. The recovery options are nice, that shit should be on Windows 7, bastards, but overall, this is going to flop like Windows Phone. There are bugs, many, so I'm not holding that against them, but I doubt the final version will make most jump to get it. I get what they want to do, compete against iOS, but this smells of Vista, and pushing Metro onto people I feel isn't going to work. There are hacks to fully disable the full metro experience, but the one's I've tried, cause issues through some of Windows uses, and just moving around feels bad, I mean fuck you can skin Windows 7 to look like anything you want, but companies don't want gimmicks, and most consumers aren't going to buy brand new equipment just for this OS. I don't see it happening. I love Windows 7 and will stick to this until the next cycle of Windows. From what I've seen, the path Windows is headed, is going to be a bumpy one. There are some nice features, but I'll let you guy's pick which ones they are!

Added more links: By the way, I'm noticing TON'S of read/writes to the disk, even when doing nothing through the OS, not sure if that is the cache system but something to watch for!

Man I just finally installed Windows 7 last June so I'll be ready for Windows 8 around Spring 2015. By Then it'll be good or Windows 9 will have dropped and I will install Windows 9 by about 2018. Thanks for the info. I'll try it out Windows 8 on a laptop I can tinker with.

Oh and don't install this one some old ass machine you got laying around either,

you need a pretty updated machine, but if you have VMWare, use that to install so once done, or in case of fuckup's, you can easily get rid of it and start over!

I have the previous build on VMWare, and there is nothing exciting at all about Win8. :smh:

It is just shit sprayed with gold (the metro theme). :smh:

On a tablet OS, I can see it being very successful, but as a PC OS :smh:

you gotta give Microsoft props for windows 7 though it is a solid os, before using windows 7 I was using ubuntu then did a dual boot setup and I barely use ubuntu anymore.

Classic Windows desktop on 64-bit version is constantly crashing on me, WTF! Moving to the 32-bit version instead! I will say it's a quick OS, but using this with a mouse is plain stupid! I'm having problems moving away from Bing and making Google my search default,, I hate BING!!!

Windows 8 is fluid and very fast. It looks great. It has the same feel as their mobile Os that they use with Windows phone. Being a windows phone user I have been spoiled by the tile interface and can't live with out it.

It will take time to get use to the look and feel because it is a lot different from the standard interface that windows is using. The real difference is that your desktop will consist of tiles. The programs you use the most will be set up to be your main tiles. You can also switch from the metro style(tiles) to the standard view. Most will continue with the metro style because it is so fluid.

this is the most legitimate part of your post.

i installed this on my acer iconia w500 today and there is quite a learning curve.

this is where m$ will fail again if they can't get this fixed before the RTM. keep in mind that this is a beta.

i am no apple fan either but the learning curve on iOS is not that big of a deal. there is not a huge learning curve on windows phone 7 either. i don't care what anyone says windows phone 7 is the best phone os out there. i use android but i still have my windows phone. once the apps catch up i will probably end up using it.

win 8 has a hell of a learning curve. but imma learn it for sure.

i went legit on windows 7 so for me to feel like I got my $$$ worth on 3 machines..... they can see me in 2014 at BEST and if they talk up the next release of say windows 9 too much ill hold out til 2015/2016 and try that. LOL BUT I will need to update my MS certs and I will need to be reasy to support it so ill get familiar with it at least

again, don't exaggerate.

u only need a 1ghz proc and 1 gig of ram with a 1366x768 screen resolution. i am running it fluidly on a tablet with a 1 ghz apu and 2 gigs of ram.

it flies. don't get me wrong the beta is buggy but it still flies.

after playing with it today i have to agree with this.

i wouldn't want to use this on my primary work laptop or desktop.

but i like it on my tablet.

To each their own, but I help a few clients with Windows phone 7, and I simply hate the UI, looks like children's paintings gone wrong, but the OS is quick, I'll give them that. Windows Phone is going to fail though, because MS dropped the ball with Windows Mobile too many times, plus the name, Windows Phone, just doesn't get people wanting it. I still, all these years later, still have not met a single teen with a windows phone either. Anyway..

For those that want to see the OS but not install, check this out: http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/29/microsoft-windows-8-consumer-preview-detailed-impressions/

Many of his points I disagree on, but Tim does love Windows, so I get where he is coming from. Windows XP/7 are the BEST, windows version MS has ever made!

WTF are you talking about? some people don't have the specs for running it as it should run, cause I doubt most will dual boot this shit on their main computer or even know how, so MOST will try to install on older equipment they don't use or test with. So I stated don't try it on older machines!

1GHz processor 1.5 or above recommend, either 1GB (32-bit) / 2 GB (64-bit) of RAM( not shared with your video card either), 16GB (32-bit) / 20 GB (64-bit) available disk space, DirectX 9 graphics with WDDM 1.0 or higher and 1024 x 768 minimum screen resolution to run the new OS.

I agree that Windows phone 7 OS is the best mobile OS. The OS simple flies and is very fast. The only thing holding it back from Iphone and Adroid is the phones. They have better phones which is very important. The Windows phone 7 OS is beautiful but is held back by the weak phones.

i am running 32 bit win 8 on:

1ghz apu
2gigs ram
32 gb ssd
1280x800 screen resolution.

it flies. i am not running it virtually. i am running it for real. most tech sites say that it will run easily on a mahine built for xp.

so WTF are you talking about?

Hello Mac,

I am official turning to your way of life. I will be using Apple and their OSX operating system. I have received complaints on Windows 8 before it even hits shelves. I look forward to working with you even more and hope our relationship can grow to new horizons.

I want to use it but it's looking ked into zune for music right? Can't have that.

don't forget the app store. it really needs to catch up. and not just on the number of apps but the functionality of the apps.

the ebay app on winphone is nowhere near as comprehensive as the one on android. i am speaking from a sellers point of view. and there are many other examples of gimped apps on winphone.

again i am coming from experience as i actually own and use both.

Windows 8 On XP Machines? Microsoft Says Yes

Many older PCs have enough horsepower for the upcoming OS, says the software maker, which also pledges to simplify setup and installation this time around.

Although they're running an OS that was built a decade ago, many PCs that are currently using Windows XP will have sufficient horsepower to handle Windows 8 when it's released, according to a Microsoft official.

Older computers will be able to run Windows 8 because Microsoft has intentionally kept system requirements for the OS to a minimum, according to St. Pierre. "With Windows 7 ... we made a commitment to work on many more existing PCs by keeping system requirements low and maintaining compatibility. We've continued that commitment with Windows 8."

I want to use it but it's looking ked into zune for music right? Can't have that.

i actually find that the media player on my windows phone is the most intuitive and best looking out of the three major phone os'.

but since my phone is for productivity and not entertainment i run with android.

I want to use it but it's looking ked into zune for music right? Can't have that.

Yes for music it pulls it from Zune. If the music is already on your computer it would pull it from their.

The OS is crazy fast and so polished. What I like the most is that you don't have to open up apps to use them because your tiles will update

The specs are the exact same as was wanted for Vista and 7. Seriously, if people still don't have machines that can meet that spec then they aren't going to be worried about Windows 8. Hell, they barely have a system that can run XP.

It's crazy fast and fluid because it's nothing but a bunch of squares with minimal menus. It SHOULD be fast.

FIXED.

keep in mind zune is dead and the software is being phased out to a new syncing software.

That is not true. The iPhone and android menues are static while windows phones are active. The windows phone OS is simply a speed demon and fluid. It has just as many if not more menues than iPhone and droid with the deference being how a person interacts with the menues.

Turd I'm starting to think your blind. Didn't you say Windows 7 would eat up iOS and Android and was going to dominate the Mobile OS world? They still can't top Windows Mobile of all things, still can't even get close to the 5 percent share I bet you on. lol... If you have ever used a Zune, it's just like that, more TEXT based with simple graphics then anything. hence how quick it is. "Some" apps have more graphics then others, more transitions then others, but as the OS stands, it's simple, more text based with tiles and colors a 8 year old came up with, and nothing about it stands out. There is a reason why the phone continues not to make movement. Last I heard not a single of the major phone producers other then ZTE, whoever they are, are coming up with new Windows Phones. HTC might when Windows Phone 8 (Apollo) is out, but no one else seems to want to produce. Just Nokia it seems.. I don't knock MS, but Metro sucks. It's like a dumbphone interface, for a smartphone, or something like that.

Im sorry but I'm loving Windows 8,You have to give M$ credit for atleast pushing the envelope with their OS..
