Am I the only one to catch BAD this weekend?

I'm really liking Adrien Broner. He may need to turn it down just a notch. He's got to find the line between flamboyant and cartoonish and disrespectful and not cross it. But skills-wise, he might have to move up to find some good competition. Eloy Perez shouldn't let this depress him. He was in with a much, much better fighter but he's got some heart and he seemed to have a noticeable amount of skill. He'll be hardpressed to fight anyone as good as Broner again so his next set of opponents should be easier. I can see him getting a couple more HBO paydays eventually.

Speaking of getting HBO paydays, Marcos Maidana has ridden his stopping Victor Ortiz into several but it's time for that shit to end. Devon Alexander is finally fighting in his right weight division and beat the fuck out of Maidana. A couple more fights at 147 and I would like to see him fight Ortiz or Berto or, when they move up, Khan and Peterson. Welterweight just got exciting again.

Maidana is what we already knew. Just a tough motherfucker who is willing to brawl. I didn't want Alexander to win, because of the bitch move he pulled during the Bradley fight. I had a feeling Alexander was going to beat him though. I'm wondering how he could handle Ortiz or Berto.

the Main event was pretty good...I was screaming at my TV for Alexander to work the body more...if he would have kept attacking the body Marcos would have been TKO'ed he was broken by those body shots...

still not completely sold on Alexander yet...Maidana will always be a tough opponent he will be back...

last I'm officially a Broner Fan

I'm not completely sold on him but he earned some points back by fighting through that cut (which was much worse than the Bradley fight) and didn't get discouraged when Maidana had some success.

Yeah, I was screaming for him to work the body too. When he did, Maidana felt him and reacted. He could have had a KO. Hopefully, Cunningham will show him that when they watch the tape.

Cunningham is a safety first type of trainer, his work with Spinks is testament to that. I think he's perfectly fine with his guy winnign every single fight by decision. That being said, Alexander is going to have to do A LOT more to convince me that his heart doesn't pump glitter. Beating Maidana in a 10 round:confused: fight is just a baby step.

As for Adrien Broner, dude completely lost me with his personality after the fight. Beating Eloy Perez and then acting like he just schooled an elite fighter and then just coming off like an all around ass just turned me completely the fuck off. And what is with the complete Floyd Mayweather impersonation that dude is trying to pull in and out of the ring? I was telling my girl how Floyd must have been clowning dude for that shit. I mean even the way he tries to talk like him and imitate his mannerisms. Dude has mad skill and talent but he hasn't proven a thing yet.

Broner is a pretty good prospect...yeah he hasn't fought the best opposition but dude has a great crowd pleasing style...he is always moving forward...big puncher looking to finish fights

he got Floyd's arrogance, with the charisma PBF does not have...he will have more fans cheering him than booing him IMO that combination he can be a star with his talent...

dude wants to put on a flamboyant show for the fans & himself  we need more interesting cats in boxing like him...his press conferences are entertaining...

a potential star I've seen his last 4 fights I'm a fan so far...

I saw part of the 1st fight and most of the 2nd...Devon definitely looks comfortable in the 147 weight class, and I see that this division is rising up in popularity again just like a few years ago with the potential of Khan and Peterson coming up to the division soon. I hear that he could get Ortiz next if Victor defeats Berto again. Those five guys fighting each other could fire up the division for another 2 years if everything goes right...

I have heard of Broner in online publications and sites as a top prospect, and he does have lots of skills in the ring. His confidence and demeanor is like a cross between Floyd and Naseem Hamed, which can definitely make for an interesting fighter to see on television...If he can make it to 135 or 140 real soon, Broner could get even more attention

Couldn't disagree more. Floyd has more charisma than dude will ever have. He just comes off like an ass, mad obnoxious. He doesn't want the crowd behind him, he wants them to dislike him. All that brush my hair shit is not entertaining. Just put on a good show each time you come out and you'll earn your spot. Once you do that, like Floyd, you can talk all you want. But the whole trying hard to be Floyd shit is just kinda creepy when Floyd is still around and still #1.

fighters were cocky before Floyd & will be after Floyd, he hasn't written the book on arrogance & showmanship...Floyd has no charisma rather he doesn't rely on it...he relies on his ignorant obnoxious character to get fans/haters to tune in & it works too...

Floyd's style is appealing to me but not to the casuals...Broner has right now a more crowd pleasing style than Floyd he looks for finishes Floyd doesn't...

I'm not saying he will be Floyd but he has potential to be a good fighter that fans would like to see he can sell a fight...

why you feel like homie swagger jacking Floyd?...what does he do that makes you feel that way?

the young brotha just trying to have fun..rapping to the ring ...selling himself

like Broner said call him the "Can Man" anyone Can get it AfriCAN's, AmeriCAN's, DominiCAN's, MexiCan's

dude had me rolling from the Press Conference to the Post Fight Interview ...much more charisma than PBF with the same arrogance IMO

I'm much closer to your opinion of Broner and his antics. I like flashy. I like cocky. But at this point, he's way too over the top to have accomplished so little. If it was just brushing his hair, it would be cool but he's rapping his own song and doing the cha-cha with Perez. It's like a bad Floyd imitation with a healthy dose of Roy Jones Jr thrown in. Just slow down and turn down the volume on the bullshit. Floyd relies a lot on defense and counterpunching and that can be see as not very fan friendly so he needed the over the top personality but Broner can get eyes on him just by knocking people the fuck out.

Yes, exactly. Besides, do ya'll remember Floyd at this age? He wasn't cocky or obnoxious and he was beating the mortal shit out of guys like Manfredy and Corrales and he had a VERY crowd pleasing style. And watch his post fight interviews, dude was humble, not cocky or over the top arrogant.

I even put Floyd being announced in the ring before a fight, side by side with Broner being announced in the ring and the impersonation was very apparent. It really kinda creeped me out like "this dude actually has Floyd pretty down pat" he's actually studied everything dude does in the ring::(

That he has talent is undeniable, a crowd pleasing style? No doubt. But he needs to be told - like many fighters, "stfu and just box". Great fighters skills speak for themselves. Guys like Hamed, Whitaker, Camacho, they just could naturally pull that shit off but with Broner, it's like he's forcing it. I had to turn off the TV when he told Max that he should've worn his jewelry in the ring.:smh:

I just watched Floyd in one of his early fights on ESPN Classics this morning and you nailed it. The confidence was there and you could see the beginning of the way he would conduct his career (he said "I don't need anyone else to sell me, I can sell myself")but he wasn't a "character" yet.
The jewelry line had me like :hmm:
He doesn't have to turn into Sugar Ray Leonard but he needs to turn it down a couple notches.

He reminds me more of Naseem Hamed with a healthy serving of Zab Judah.

I don't know if that's a good thing seeing how they turned out.

I will say this about him, at least he's trying to emulate Floyd in the one way he should - dude seems to have a serious work ethic and a desire to be great, always a good thing with young fighters.

Yeah the constant talking and dancing shit after the ko really reminded me of Zab and the ring entrance was all Hamed - just not as over the top as Nas.

Man if Floyd acted like this, some crazy Pac fan would have taken a shot at him already.:lol:

Word.
Perez was not and is not an elite fighter.Broner acts like he's the shit
but he competes at 130 were there is no real threat and he knows it.
If he can step up to 140 or even 147 and beat some "elite" opponents then
he might prove something but if he continues to act like an ass,i still
won't respect him.Dude is on the edge of being a one man minstrel show.

I think he'll be a problem at 140-147 when he arrives there but how is he going to fair against an elite fighter at 130-135 like Gamboa? They need to step up this kids comp, especially now that he's holding a belt and he's on people's radars.

He's probably a few years from fighting at 140-147 but there are plenty of good fights at 130-135 for him to take, with Gamboa at the top of that list and plenty of older heads looking to cash out or stop a young buck with a lot of mouth (Chris John, please fight in America).

Excellent technical fighter. But his biggest claim to fame so far is a close gift win over Marquez. But the fact that it was such a good boxing chess match tells us that dudes skill is for real. But yeah, he needs to come over here and fight.

I would love to see Broner matched up against Juan Carlos Burgos. Dude already spoiled one big prospect in Luis Cruz and his style, lankiness and power might could put Broner to the test. Or perhaps a fight with Takashi would also be a pretty good fight. But he needs to move up to 135 if he wants some real shine. Take on Linares or Guerrero.

If he beats one or both of those guys, I would love for him to fight Guerrero at 135, unless The Ghost is moving up to 140.
