New cycle of group classes are starting at my gym i'm thinking about taking the kettle bell one. Anybody using those what are the pros and cons of that type of workout.

I have read up on it through google but i am looking for some personal experiences

don't know too much about them other than I see more Pro athletes using them in their routines...Bron comes to mind

I read they can give you some nice explosion....

yeah i see a lot of the pros using them when they show their off seasoning conditioning especially football players. I remember seeing a few people on the board post about using them i am looking for their feedback if it is just the new fad or if they are really good

They're good for practical strength. The exercises can work everyday complex motions like lifting and twisting at the same time. Plus eye & hand coordination once you start throwing and catching. Try it for a bit and see if you end up sore, if so then it might help work some areas that you havent been.

there as a thread some cat posted good vids & had feedback on Kettlebells...

I 1st saw Kettlebells used by Fighters now you can't walk into a gym & not see some Kettlebells or kettlebell classes...

I think if you are trying to build strength w/o the bulk they are great...also you can use them in a variety of ways compared to Dumbbells....but I notice alot athletes use them for explosion....

They are extremely versatile. I own an adjustable kettlebell and you go from swings, to high pulls, to goblet squats to snatches all in one circuit without changing equipment.

Kettle weights are good because you can do exercises with them that you can't with bars (barbells and dumbells). the benefit is you hit different muscle groups. You can do just as good without them.

the kettle bell class is 30 minutes vs 50 minutes for the other classes so i am assuming it is going to be more intense

Absolutely - was talking with one of my fam' the other day and he asked about it as he uses simple free weights, and I explained the ability to incorporate other angles and techniques (plus core/functional strength) into your lifts. Whereas you're more limited with the straight grip of a regular free weight. You can mess around and find routines that SAFELY work for you (trying different grips and lifts) with the ol' KETTLEBELL joints.

Kettlebells cause you to get stronger faster because there is no leverage in the handles like dumbells. You have to use your whole body to hold them up or complete the movements. This also causes your heartrate to jump. Start off getting a pair of 35lb bells then jump up to 53lbs.

I highly recommend them, they are a part of my workout routine now. Great workout once you get the form and fundamentals down.
