You may have heard the above statement before. It seems like white people, unaware of US government policies that tried to keep black people uneducated and poor, hold these types of views.
Hugh Hamilton interviewed authors of the state of the dream who explained
why America needs to look at poverty through the prism of race. And his guests recall a time when affirmative action was for whites.

I found these segments really insightful and wanted to share them with the BGOL family.



Who benefits from the mass incaeration of Black and Latinos.

For anyone who isn't familiar with the 'New Jim Crow' or the prison industrial complex listen to the clip below. America makes up 5% of the world's population but 25% of the globe's incarcerated. And the imprisoned are mostly Black and Latino.

Those are people who don't take into account the history of africans/blacks in america because if they did,they wouldn't make such a statement.

Slaves,racial injustice,racial & political injustices,educational & economical injustice,then after all of that we were poor and with being poor you deal with all of the other things stated above just the same.

Whether they come from Russia, Italy, Poland or Greece, they all have the benefit of being seen as white foreigners instead of being seen as blacks. you can only hold on to those excuses for so long, my family didn't have shit, we came to this country in 86 from Costa Rica, landed in the Bronx NY.......so now, not only are we black in America but we can't speak english either........and guess what, we all put in the effort and got the fuck out that muthfuka and while we ain't "rich" , we're very very comfortable.

from time to time I go back to the hood to catch up with some people, and most of the brothas I grew up with are still there.......doing the same non-productive bullshit making excuses about why they can't catch a break or get out of the hood....
i'm like , we all had the very same opportunities....shiiieeet, it can be said that they had the advantage because they didn't have to learn the language........and still, they didn't do shit!!! and from the looks of it, their kids are heading down the very same path...........

Rick Ronson there are plenty successful black ppl in America. However the segment points out that a) white people benefited from the government actively helping them create wealth and b) the government had direct policies to keep black ppl from gaining wealth.

Wealth is created through generations, wealth is inherited. So if your grandparents weren't able to buy houses due redlining, go to universities that were all-white in the past you will have less wealth today. I don't think that's an excuse but a fact.

as if people forget that the US force immigrated thousands of eastern Europeans on multiple occasions when the US government felt the population was becoming too less white.

It still happens, look at how FEW Africans, are allowed legal immigration status, versus those from Europe

African-Americans are going to hate me for this, but Africans and Black Caribbeans somewhat feel the same way about African-Americans. A lot of them believe that African-Americans don't understand the power of unity in the sense of business. I heard them say with my own ears countless times that, "If my family been here for 20 years and build a strong foundation for the younger members in my family, then why can't more African-Americans do the samething that been here 70 years longer?" ....

Washed dishes in restaurants, cleaned jewelry in the diamond district, learned HVAC at night, started an appliance store in the basement with my pregnant mother helping him deliver. Now they're retired early in their early 50s. He didn't get to finish his GED until he was 58, now you can't tell him shit...he's "educated". The American dream.

I do not deny African-Americans are being held back because of established most times covert prejudices against them.

But...

Why Africans and Afro-Caribbeans can come to the USA and prosper is because when they get here they only see OPPORTUNITY They do not dwell on what was done before because they have a different perspective.

They are going to keep trying until they make it better for themselves.

If blacks were the most educated groups in America and were still denied those high paying jobs then we'd have some serious public outcry available to us.

The street game is only good for survival, you have to graduate from it to a legit business and then hire each other in order to make it as a group.

There is white privilege in America, and there are low-standards and excuses in the AMERICAN black community; There couldn't be a more deadly combination.

The past was much, much different. A lot of black people walking the streets today would have a nervous breakdown if they had to deal with what our ancestors did.

Currently we are letting African, Chinese, Mexican and Indian immigrants eat our lunch, and we have no one to blame but ourselves.

true that, I can't really answer that question because I was too young to have any say in the decision to come here.........and every time I go back to CR I see nothing but opportunity. from what mom dukes tells me things weren't quite as nice in the 70's and 80's in Central American because of shit jumping off in Nicaragua to our north and Panama to our south......as kids in their early 20's they made a choice to come to America because of the uncertainty in our region of the world, and because of all the opportunities they had heard of in the US.

as of now, my plan is to wait until my kids go off to college and then I'm out......back to CR with wifey, she's Trini so she's down with the plan



ps.....you can make it anywhere if you have the right work ethic and don't live in the past.......what happened to your ancestors isn't keeping YOU from doing a gotdamn thing
