Sergio Martinez Not Surprised By Cotto-Chavez Jr. News

Middleweight champion Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27KOs) is not surprised with the news of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. possibly facing Miguel Cotto in July. The WBC issued a recent order, which directs Chavez Jr., should he beat Marco Antonio Rubio on February 4th in Texas, to make an immediate defense against Martinez, should he beat Matthew Macklin on March 17th. If Chavez wins in February, Top Rank is interested in matching him against Cotto in July.

"Chavez Jr. will never fight me. He's afraid," Martinez said.

The WBC issued orders for Chavez-Martinez in the past. The fight never happened. To show his frustration, Martinez recently vacated his WBC Diamond title and refuses to fight for any WBC titl - unless it's the full middleweight belt that is currently owned by Chavez.

"I will not fight for a Diamond title because it's not the real title. I won't fight for any of these titles. I would only fight for the full WBC title," Martinez said.

I like that Martinez is aimed straight at Chavez instead of fights that he really knows won't happen, like Mayweather and Pacquiao.

He's been calling out the money makers for a while. I just wonder why he was/is silent about the rougher guys at 154 that will test him... he could build buzz around those fights to put pressure on the money makers. Either way, he talks so much shit to people who are afraid to even say his name that you would think the motherfucker was like Chavez fighting guys 2 weight classes from where he should be.

Nah. He beat Kelly when Kelly just plan lost it. Don't get me wrong. It was a good win. But he never recovered from that BHop beating. His problem is simple. He is way to big for manny and PBF is not ready for a live body bigger man. He knows that he won't get those fights. The only way it would happen would be if he got visible beaten up in a victory. That people would assume that fight took to much out of him. And even if that happened. Manny would not get in the ring with him. Sergio is just to big.

No, Martinez beat Kelly because Kelly was overrated. B-Hop didn't pull a beating on Kelly just a 12 round school to pull his card and Taylor's card in front of the world.

I'm glad we agree that Cotto and Chavez are worthless though.

Manny won't get in the ring with a slick fighter unless they are pillow fisted or if he thinks they are finished like he thought Marquez was.
