where is the dirk nowitzki people were claiming was the hands down MVP?

where is the unstoppable talent?

i swear people are easy to fool.

resist the temptation to get caught up in media bullshit people! watch games and you'll be better off.

ummmmmmmmm.....that was last season and yes.......he did his thing in the playoffs and championship series.

he did?

so all of that talent and game magically evaporated during the off season?

inexplicably rendering dirk nowitzki incapable of leading his team to a better showing than currently offered?

or maybe tyson chandler (and others) played a huge part in propelling the mavericks forward while all the accolades were placed gently at the feet of the euro?

Basketball "experts" will find a way to rationalize a yes response to your first and second questions.
That's why I don't even bother to say anything anymore. It should be obvious....but it isn't :(

What a strange thread.

Dude led his team to the championship last year.

The team, already the oldest in the league, lost some key pieces and isn't as good. What does this have to do with Nowitski?

well, first off, i take issue with the suggestion that it was dirk nowitzki that "led his team to the championship last year".

as you mentioned, the mavericks already won the championship as the team with the oldest average age. so why suggest age played a role in a shortened season and getting swept in the first round?

last year, people listened to the media HYPE as the mavericks success unfolded. it's easier (for a basically ignorant public) to comprehend a team success when the media attributes success to a lone focal point.

i distinctly remember the word "unstoppable" being used to describe dirk nowitzki's game last year: the talk about his fadeaway, his "indefensible" shot due to his height and release point, etc.

You can take issue where you want, doesn't change the facts of the matter.

Whatever beef you have or issues you have, is this really where you need to work them out? I'm sure you can afford a nice therapist to listen to you and help you.
Dirk was unstoppable on the Mavs run to the championship, last year. I don't remember anyone calling him that this year because he hadn't earned that kind of respect with his game.
There was no "hype" with the Mavs going in because a lot of people were still picking the Lakers or the Heat to win the championship.
This year, as I said, they lost key pieces and they were less effective and then got the worst possible match up for them and it showed.
Let it go. If the dude owes you money, call him and get your money.

I didnt like how he just took a couple of weeks off and was out of shape though...

There were a lot of guys like that this year and I don't get it. Even if you think the season is going to be cancelled, you should stay in basketball shape to some degree just in case.

If all the guys who left were so key to the Mavericks getting past the 1st round, which really isn't asking that much of the NBA champions, then wouldn't that make those players the most valuable?

:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yes, you can give the Most Valuable Player award to three or four other players at the same time. That's exactly how that works.
Now which guy, since apparently it shouldn't have been Dirk to some, should have been Finals MVP last year?

If you take Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant from the 90s Bulls, Jordan doesn't win any championships.
Take James Worthy and Kareem Abdul Jabbar away from the 80s Lakers, Magic doesn't win any championships.
Take key role players away from the Mavericks, replacing them with older players (one of whom flakes out and doesn't contribute)and they don't win.
That doesn't negate what happened last year. Who the hell sits around hating retroactively? How petty is that?
