Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s 90 day sentence for domestic violence, which is slated to begin Friday in Nevada, will probably prevent him from fighting until the second half of the year. As previously reported, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao is not going to wait for Mayweather. He plans to fight in the first half of the year.

As we noted earlier, Pacquiao's promoter, Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, presented the Filipino star's trainer, Freddie Roach, with a list comprised of four possible opponents. They are current junior welterweight champions Lamont Peterson and Timothy Bradley, junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and Juan Manuel Marquez.

Cotto is deserving of any fight he can get. At 37-2 with 30 knockouts and a record of 17-2 in championship fights in three weight classes, he has had a Hall of Fame career. But Cotto already has been blasted by Pacquiao.

When they met in a welterweight title fight in November 2009, Pacquiao stopped Cotto in the 12th round. Pacquiao was ahead by eight, nine and 10 points at the time. There is no reason to go there again and it would be a tough pay-per-view sell.

Since Pacquiao makes some of his big bucks off pay-per-view upside, that's a big consideration.

Peterson won a split-decision to take Khan's title on Dec. 10 in Peterson's native Washington. Peterson did a fine job, but were it not for two suspect Khan point deductions for pushing Khan would have escaped with the win and title belt.

Regardless, Peterson is not well-known and since Pacquiao never makes less than $20 million for a fight, Arum has to make sure he has that covered and a fight with Peterson would not do it.

Talk about low pay-per-view buys. That would be it, Pacquiao's presence notwithstanding.

A fourth fight with Marquez? It's easy to say Marquez deserves it. According to published reports, Marquez has said he wants another shot at Pacquiao but he never would agree to have it in Las Vegas again.

Marquez believes he has won all three fights against Pacquiao, yet all he has is a draw and two losses to show for his efforts. All three fights have been in Las Vegas, which means Marquez doesn't trust he can get a victory by decision there.

Well, once a prospective Pacquiao opponent starts making demands, he usually doesn't get what he wants.

Then there is Bradley. The feeling here is of the four, he could generate the most money. Even more than Marquez because even though Marquez fans might want a fourth fight, much of the general public might not because it's already been done three times.

Bradley is a terrific personality and would be of great help in the promotion. He also is an exciting fighter. He doesn't have a monster punch, but he hits hard enough, is very fast and more than likely wouldn't have any qualms about engaging Pacquiao in some toe-to-toe moments.

Bradley, 28, is in his prime. He is 28-0 and wants the top of the line.

"I'm working my way toward a Manny Pacquiao fight or a Floyd Mayweather fight," Bradley said just days before Mayweather was sentenced Dec. 21. "That is my ultimate goal, to fight the best pound-for-pound fighters in the game."

Mayweather could get as much as 30 days reduced from his sentence for good behavior. He could be out in early March. But even then he would not be able to fight again by May 5, which was the date he set for his next fight before his jail sentence was handed down after a plea bargain.

If Mayweather does get released in early March, he possibly could be ready by June. If Pacquiao could wait until then, that fight could be made. As of now, we are being told there will be no waiting.

If that's the case, we say Bradley is the man. Roach would not say which fighter he would prefer.

"I haven't spoken to Manny yet," Roach told BoxingScene.com from his Wild Card gym in Hollywood. "He is going to be here next week and we'll talk about it. We'll see which way we're going to go."

:smh:

A few things...

1. Originally they were pissed by the May 5th date being dictated to them... now they are using that date as if it is unmovable and justifies not just negotiating a different date, a month or two out.

2. Why put Cotto on the list when Cotto hasn't done anything spectacular enough to justify the rematch and Cotto now fights at a weight that Pac says he won't fight at again or is that just when Martinez is looking for a fight.

3. How the fuck is Bradley even considered marketable and Peterson isn't:confused: Peterson can at least sell tickets in DC.

I'd be fine with Pac against either Peterson or Bradley. But IMO Peterson brings more to the table at this point in time even tho Bradley holds a win over him.

If they were legit that would just wait for Floyd or fight Marquez if they must, but if they don't like those options I have to admit Peterson makes more sense money wise than Bradley. They have two acceptable options though before even going that route, remember Marquez 4 could not wait for the mega fight to go down according to Arum so...

At this point I don't care who he fights as long as the match is competitive. If I had to pick a fight. It would be Cotto. I like to see if Cotto can get his revenge. Timmy and Lamont can fight with the winner of that getting Khan. Khan needs a tune up before he steps into the ring with either guy.

 Typical.

Who should Manny fight? Let me guess. Manny should fight Juan for the fourth time but in Vegas. Khan and Lamont should fight again and Timmy who has held the division down as the best should fight the winner of Marcos and Alexander? Lmoa, was that a good guess? Cause I did shot for a Typical Merce answer.

he should wait an extra month or so and fight Mayweather.

I wouldn't put it past Arum to make Pac-Marquez IV on Cinco De Mayo at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Or maybe at Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.

Yes a great guess, it is answer that makes sense. Arum was crazy about a 4th fight so why not do it... Khan and Peterson was close and the decision was controversial which generally automatically means rematch which brings me back to Pac v JMM 4 with another justification for that fight. Bradley took himself out of the game when he could have held down the division at 140 so he should wait his turn or move up and prove himself at 147 since he wants those big fights, he should actually try to get the winner of Berto v Ortiz and eventually settle for the winner of Marcos and Alexander when those guys don't think he is worthwhile. If Merce was your inspiration for your picks maybe you should start thinking like Merce cause channeling him allows you to think logically.

Cotto hasn't beat anyone worth two fucks since he moved up and if you want a competitive fight why would pick a opponent that got his ass handed to him in their previous fight. Yes, Cotto boxed well in that first fight when he chose to, but he doesn't have the conditioning or chin to survive 12 rounds with a fast/hard puncher which is why Cotto avoids Martinez completely. Why would a rematch of that fight add up to a more competitive fight than another rematch with Marquez? If it is the weight difference... then can you explain why a Martinez fight doesn't make sense? If Cotto has to do another catch weight deal for the smaller Pac, what exactly would make that fight any different?

Why do you purposely go against what makes sense is really the question? Never mind, the mind of a troll is empty. I should just delete this post, but you have tricked me enough to type this so I'll post it.

Cotto should fight a top jr middleweight, not a welterweight, maybe Kirkland or (preferably) Saul Alvarez. Hell, he could fight Cornelius Brundage in a unification. Manny can fight the winner of Berto-Ortiz II since Arum doesn't want him to fight Floyd Mayweather any time soon. Khan and Peterson should fight again at welterweight. Tim should win at least one significant welterweight fight before fighting Manny.

Cotto should retire. I don't give a fuck he beat a one eye Margarito in that wack ass fight. He would have done that shit the first time if the human punching bag didn't have those Inca mud huts in his gloves. Cotto still would've lost to Clottey in my eyes and Pac still would have broke him like a toy from the dollar store. He doesn't want to fight nobody. Matter of fact after a one legged, pillow fisted motherfucker... a lung cancer having, bar fighter... and cheating ass one-eye Willie... the only fight that makes sense is a meth out Kelly Palvik on the run from rehab and the police.

Manny isn't going to fight the winner of Ortiz v Berto because they will more than likely have a tough scrap and by the time they are ready... Floyd will be ready so it makes no sense for the phony image they are trying to hold on to.

Khan is damn near going to talk himself out of a rematch. It's like he doesn't even realize Peterson has the upper hand and all his whining is silly. It'll be one thing if the ref didn't have justification for his calls or if Khan was schooling Peterson, but he looked bitchmade in the fight and the complaints make him look even worse.

Bradley will fight Pac. He didn't have to do anything but sign with Top Rank. It was the plan all along. The shit was so transparent when he signed that Arum had to deny it. Now with it all said and almost done ... some how his name is in the running without a significant win or even a great performance against a Casamayor that they dragged out of a retire home rocking chair. That nigga was knitting socks and mittens when he got the call, but Bradley put on a snoozer. Shit is disgusting.

May be disgusting but with that first sentence alone, we knew that he was well on his way to a fight with Manny...and this was how many months ago?

Yet once the fight is announced, Arum will try to sell this as a big fight...when in actuality could barely pull off the same numbers as the Pac-Clottey fight

:smh: @ Top Prank...making reactionary moves since 2006...

That Bradley-Casamayor fight was one of the most boring matches I've seen in quite a while. And yeah, even tho he's old as dirt now in terms of fighting years I was surprised that Bradley got a win inside the distance.

As of late Bradley couldn't beat his dick without it going to the scorecards.

I was hoping for the Casa I remembered, but that motherfucker was so old they stopped the fight really cause he was winded. He could have gone the distance with play doh hands.

Being so unimpressive against an old ass fighter like Casamayor should have disqualified him from a Pacquaio fight.
I just don't see how it can be sold.
