Sergio Martinez: I Hope Rubio Wins, Ends The Chavez Lie!

As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, middleweight Sergio Martinez (48-2-2, 27KOs) vacated his WBC Diamond title. The Argentine star was angry with the sanctioning body's failure to force a mandatory fight with WBC full champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (44-0, 31KOs). The organization ordered the fight two weeks, at their 49th annual convention in Las Vegas. But a few days later WBC President Jose Sulaiman tried to get Martinez to step aside in order to allow Chavez to defend his title against number one ranked Marco Antonio Rubio (53-5, 46KOs) on February 4th in Texas.

Martinez doesn't consider Chavez a real champion, and hopes Rubio beats him in February. Martinez will face Matthew Macklin on March 17th.

"I hope Rubio beats Chavez Jr. to end the lie. And if [Rubio] wins, just tell me where [to fight him] and I'll look forward to it. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is the biggest coward in the world, followed by [Top Rank CEO] Bob Arum," Martinez said.

It's about time somebody went all out with a Top Rank smear campaign. Hopefully 2012 will be Arum's last year breathing. I'd love to have Don King back instead.

He can't be anymore dirty than Bob is - and dude's PPV cards were just ridiculous. Mufucca had dudes like Terry Norris, Azumah Nelson, and Ricardo Lopez fighting on UNDERCARDS!:smh:Damn I miss them days.

I swear overall PPV's are weak these days but there is nothing worst than a Top Rank PPV. I've had to fight to stay awake before the main event.

You know their undercards are gonna be garbage because most of the time their main events ain't even about shit.

A Don King Appreciation Thread? You don't know what you have until it's gone (or diminished).
King, as dirty as he was, understood that the best way to make money would be to give fans entertaining cards, at least on paper be attractive.


Sergio is on fire. At this rate, Mexican fans will demand Chavez fight him just to shut him up.
