So it looks like Canelo vs Kirkland is going down

Canelo's an even more dangerous puncher than Angulo but his chin is a question mark. We already know what James is made of. I got Kirkland but Alvarez can change the fight with one punch. Should be a good one.

The best fighting the best. That's what it is all about.

This is how I see it. %100.

Regardless of the outcome, I'm just happy to see 2 fighters, as well as their promoters, make the fight that should be made. No protecting anybody, or being afraid that taking a dangerous fight now will prevent a big fight from being made in the future.

Edit: V Buk said what I meant, just in fewer words

I agree but make no mistake, what's allowing this fight to be made is that Kirkland, as good as he is, seems vulnerable because he is, but he's clearly a different fighter under Anne Wolfe. Seems like him getting ko'd by a light punching Japanese guy could be the best thing that ever happened to him. It's clearly opened doors for him that, had he kept destroying opponents like he was before his bid, would have otherwise been closed. But regardless, I'm looking forward to this fight.

A solid counter puncher with good pop will fuck up his world. Canelo is a solid boxer. I could see it, but I can also see Canelo falling apart under the pressure.

This what makes it such a compelling match up. Even though Canelo didn't look so great against Gomez, he kept his poise and at least on the outside anyway, he never seemed frustrated or dejected so I'm not too sure about him falling apart under pressure. Then again he's never fought a beast like Kirkland, who definitely showed some improved boxing skills and ring IQ against Angulo. They're both young exciting fighters with big power and they are still raw and vulnerable enough to make it a great, high action fight kind of like Berto and Ortiz. I just know that if their first match is a classic - bet on a trilogy. I like Kirkland's chances of becoming of a very popular fighter that people will pay to see, even when he's boxing it seems like he's brawling. The more I think about this match, the more I like it.

On a sidenote, has there ever been a disappointing 154lb era? It seems like there are always great match ups to be made at super welter even dating back to the 70's and 80's.

I like Kirkland...

Based off what I saw from them in their last fights, I'm leaning toward James as well. What has me worried is that Saul has that one hitter quitter type of power. I can see James getting careless which he still does and getting clocked and put to sleep. He'll have to fight a smart fight, which he showed Saturday he's capable of doing, although he also showed that he walks right into a lot of shots.

Canelo kept his composure, but it was against Gomez. Canelo was letting Gomez do what ever he wanted and I'm betting it was because Gomez didn't have a lot of pop. Even with that said, Gomez was setting the pace of the fight and it took a while for Canelo to get control. If Canelo even fucks around and let's Kirkland get his shit off for a little bit... he will have problems. A good series of counters with heat on them will change Kirkland's game plan, but Kirkland isn't going to give dude time to think or look for openings... He is going to have to box and in some cases just throw anything with heat on it when Kirkland rushes in. There are a lot of variables to this fight, but I still want to ride with Kirkland because I can Alvarez trying to brawl at some point and then realizing that Kirkland will go back and forth, no matter what... until it gets really ugly.

I like Kirkland but his defense is still shitty :smh:...his chin is great...I think he will walk Canelo down like he did Angulo...

his conditioning was also impressive he had alot of power in his punches late in that fight...

I still think Cintron will give Canelo a good fight....

I wouldn't say Kirkland is one of the best at this point, there are other guys ahead of him, but it's a dangerous fight for Canelo.

If it wasn't for the Japanese fight, Kirkland would be getting a steady diet of Bum of the Month members because none of the good jr middles would want to fight him.

He rushed in in the first round and got dropped and started boxing smarter and with more patience after that.

Yep. Dude used to throw everything with full power. Now he mixes in a couple taps and range finders, lulls you to sleep, and drops the hammer on you. I love how he's developed an uppercut too, it's good to see someone other than Juan Manuel Marquez using that punch. A good hard uppercut is gold.

Yes. I love uppercuts and his were very effective. On a lesser guy, he would have stopped him with those.
