Grand Theft Auto 5 Officially Announced, Rumor Mill in High Gear

Rockstar Games has officially announced Grand Theft Auto 5 as the next game in the award-winning video game series. The announcement came in suitably mysterious style. Logging on to the Rockstar’s website leads to the above image … and not much else. Eagle eyes will notice the game’s trailer is set to hit on Nov. 2. Rockstar is also promoting the hashtag #GTAV to build social buzz.

Grand Theft Auto (GTA) gained tremendous acclaim — and a fair bit of notoriety — for its violent, open-world gameplay. Players can steal cars, kill innocents and rise in the ranks of local mafias and gangs. Grand Theft Auto is largely credited with popularizing open-world gameplay where players can deviate from a central plot to take on side tasks like driving a taxi, mini-games or simply wandering a digital city. Grand Theft Auto 5 will be the first GTA game since 2008′s Grand Theft Auto 4, which followed an Eastern European immigrant’s rise to power in New York City Liberty City.

With the announcement of Grand Theft Auto 5, the “Internet” has gone into high gear trying to make predictions about the game. The “5″ is clearly designed to resemble a paper bill but cash has always played a huge role in the GTA games.

Some are guessing GTA5 might be based in Hollywood though that, along with similar speculation, is more of a wish than a fact.

gta 4 was damn good for the first half of the game. The second half just went on for too long and it felt like I was doing the same shit over and over again. I hop they cam deliver a better overall experience. Gay Tony took it back to the old GTAs where you had a bunch of fun missions and the game didn't take itself so serious like GTA 4. I hope it's a game based on Packie and his family. Those missins and characters were tight.

Yea I think they heard the criticism of GTA4 being to serious, and decided to lighten things up with Gay Tony.

It won't be focused around the Mcrearys.

I'm pretty sure Liberty City and the GTA 3 cannon are done for, which is quite bittersweet.

All signs point to the next game being in LA aka Los Santos and what other major ethnicity but Mexicans do they have left for a protagonist that would fit perfectly with LA?

i just hope the map is back to san andreas size cuz gta4 was big but id say it was less than half the size of san andreas....

U'r trippin u can't compare SR2 to GTA4. GTA4 won game of the yr even before it came out, not mention the commercial and critical success it garnered. SR2 didn't do anything to improve on the original, it just expanded on it.

GTA 4 had record sales of 3.6 million units sold in the first day and overall made excess of 500 million in revenue in the first week of sales. It was dubbed at the time the best game ever made, (of course that is always debateable). U can do a google search if u don't believe me.

The problem or complaint with with GTA 4 was that people were expecting another San Andreas, which wasn't practical cause the story was held in New York, so certain gameplay elements would be different than it's predecessor. For that type of genre of game, the city is gonna determine or reflect the type of gameplay on some level. For example U'r not gonna have water sports or jet ski activities in new york in the middle of winter.

What ever year GTA comes out in, it's winning game of the year, everybody knows that. GTA 4 was no different.

Yeah Rock* definitely heard the reaction people had to the lack of mission variety in GTA4 and fixed everything for 'Gay Tony'. That was the most fun GTA to come out since San Andreas, so this game more than likely is gonna go in that direction, too. I'm confident they're gonna give the fans what they want.

As far as location and main character goes, I would like to see an hispanic character and maybe have mexico be one of the locations. You start in Mexico doing the Cartel thing, and you eventually come up to the US.

If you have enough space on your hard drive either is fine. You'll end up installing most of them to the ps3 anyway for smoother gameplay.

No you can't You have to buy the digital download version also. They don't allow you to get the digital download version free if you already own the disc version. If you buy the digital download and your drive or PS3 fails you can download it for free but only with the account you bought it for. Also games run better off the HDD. That's why I install my 360 games. Shorter load times make a bug difference in games with huge environments.

I'm in. I liked GTA4. Just sitting around picking off people who wore hats for hours. Great fun. Robbing people. Attacking cops for no reason. I didn't play the gay tony 1. But i like the game. So i'm in.

yea dan hauser said there will not be a Liberty City setting for the next GTA..my guess is itll probably be a new made-up city or they revisit San Andreas(either Los Santos,San Fierro or Las Venturas)..if they take it back to Vice City and base it off present-day Miami(and patch things up w/ ray liotta so that he can reprise the role of tommy vercetti LOL) thatd be a trip

Only on the 360 but you still need the disc to play. On the PS3 the developer decides if the games installs anything.
