New York Comic-Con...

My entire family is going. Originally it was going to be me and just one wife because we only got 2 free passes. But last night we got 5 more from ppl that had extras. We are only dressing up on Saturday though. Friday is my business day.

Just found out an hour ago I was supposed to get discount tickets because I work for the board of ed. Paid close to $80 for my 3 days when I was only supposed to pay $10.89 for the 4 day pass:furious::furious::furious:

Oh well, next year, I got tickets for cheap
:hellyea:

Now that SUCKS!!!:lol::lol::lol:

So one of my kids was singing the MASK theme song. She comes over to where I'm at in the IDW tent picking up some trades for $1 to $2 bucks. Tells me to check out MASK table. I thought she meant like booleggers selling the DVDs. So I finally go over and I see this....

The rep then gave her the last of the free sample Jem and Mask toys....

My main was like this 0.0 when she saw that JEM. My kid is not giving that up. But I got the MASK toy/

This year's con is shaping out to be a good one but free swag is at an all time low...

Anybody hit up those afterparties? Couple of people told me they was sort of aight...

The cosplay parties are always the bombs. Usually Saturday's are the best ones to go to because Friday ppl are coming from work...picking up stuff and heading home.

The ratio of chicks to dudes at cosplay parties is always 7 to 1. So it's never been a bad year to this day.

I agree the Marvel booth was garbage this year.Lame guy had people begging for items, yes they had some free items on the side, but this guy had people doing stadium waves just to get a dvd or action figure:

Best thing about the Marvel Booth this year was half of the cast of Avengers showed up to sign posters

It was fun ,im sure missed some stuff not sure if i will go next year.

^^^^^^^^^

Yeah.

For some reason, shit was a bit disorganized and lame this year.
And though I'm not a BIG fan of Anime, to have that festival at the far end of the convention center to itself was self-defeating and ludicrous.

And all the events handling at the IGN theater was a big mess.
It used to be easy to get into a lot of those events.
But it was so mishandled.
Especially with "THE WALKING DEAD" and "THE AVENGERS" events.

As always,
DC represented!
You can always leave it up to Dan DiDio and Jim Lee to keep shit fun and lively. And since I'm a big VERTIGO fan, Karen Berger doesn't play with her imprint at Comic-Con. Every creator always shows up, and are prideful of their work.

No matter how you feel about "THE NEW 52",
It clearly dominated this year.

I didn't hit any of the MARVEL panels this year.
I heard a lot of it was just "run of the mill".

The "Black Panel" felt a bit rushed, complainy, and uninformed.
Though the Brother that ran it did say that he lost a lot of his files.
And I felt that the whole "Black Geek" thing ran a bit true.
When you see all these Black fans dressing up like White and Asian/Anime characters, you really have to pause a bit.

The ONLY Black character I saw a fan represent was BLADE!
And that was ONE Brother.

The Gene Colan Tribute was nice.

But after going to every one for the last six years,
I'm not sure about hitting next year.
I still had fun.
Networked a bit with independent creators made me feel inspired.
But this year's experience left a lot to be desired.

I went Friday and did the after parties for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

It was too crowded to be enjoyed. I already told people I knew that I was pretty much done with the major cons from last year. Even with free tickets this felt like a burden this year.

All of the cosplay parties were great. The one at Panda and NYU never disappoint. Got a lot of free stuff but I'll be giving it away as family comes to visit. Nothing worth keeping.

Getting Locke and Key TPB volume 1 to 4 for $2.00 each was about the biggest highlight from within the con.

The grants and indie panel were the best. I was able to get 3 backers for my next book that comes out in September.

Yeah.
Shit was definitely too crowded.

The last few years, with the exception of Saturday in which crowds are a given, Fridays and Sundays were days where you had room to breath and maneuver. Those were chill-out days. I didn't do a lot of sales floor stuff this year. I just a got a few things for some folks and booked. Except for a couple of trades, I didn't get shit for myself this year.

It's like all these "BIG BANG THEORY" fans and wannabees just came out of nowhere.

And did you noticed how much of the Javitz Center was sectioned off?

^

Yep. It's become a place of poseurs.

Did you notice that 90% of the people that were liking DC New 52...Did not even read the books?

Here were some of the questions that got the most applause...

"Deathstroke's costume is hot! Was their anime influences in his design?"

"I notice that Batman's costume is very similar to his Return costume. Will he be going back to the traditional look somewhere along the New 52 or is that the official look?"

"Is Superman wearing armor or are the lines in his costume decorative?"

Not one single fucking question about the storyarcs.

One dude got checked by the fans too.

"When will Superman lose the jeans and get that costumes he has in the other Superman book?

Other fan - 'Did you read that book? The book he is in his jean takes places in his early years of the New 52!'

"Oh. Strike my question for the record then."

Another fan - "SHUT THE FUCK UP!"

These are the people buying comics these days. These are the same ppl coming to the comic con looking for swag and trying to sell that shit on ebay like it's priceless. :smh:

^^^^^^^^^^

I didn't notice that.
Maybe because I spoke to a lot of young cats that actually read the books.
So we were talking about where the stories may lead.

But I hear ya about the poseurs.
But my take on that is fandom has to start somewhere.
So maybe later on, some of these poseurs will become real fans at some point.

I'm talking about at the table and the panels that DC had throughout the show. I attended 1 and left midway because it was all about the color schemes of the new costumes.

Hopefully, they will become reading fans. I don't mind art fans, honestly but when an art fan speaks about a book being hot...that means the story and art were on point.

Not this 'That shit is hot. I did not read it but page and 3 and 4 has a hot spread.' Shit like that makes me want to spit at people.

Damn I wish yall told me it was going to be sold out like that!
went saturday around noon...... All tickets sold out for today and sunday

was like WTF
